  1. Tris...

    Rear ended

You have my sympathies, same thing happened to me a couple of years ago. £16,000 worth of damage. Didn't see the car for 2 months. Had it back 3 weeks and someone damaged the front! I suggest a good yule tide drink... or ten. :-) Tris..
  2. So I've had my Hethel Edition 400 for around 6 months and just over 4000 miles. And I love it! It is a phenomenal car, the way it drives, the way it sounds and the way people respond to it, makes it a true drivers car. While the UK/European motoring press seem to have been Luke warm to the car, I feel the American press have hit the nail on the head with how they have written about the car. Has it been problem free? No, I've had squeaky seat syndrome, I've had MAF sensor syndrome and a few other varying level of niggles and problems. But they have been professionally and effectively sorted & fixed by the ever enthusiastic Ken and his team at Snows Lotus Hedge End. While some of it has been frustrating, the brake pedal sensor failing within 15 miles of collecting the car new, was definately a low point. The sheer ability of the car and the enjoyment I get out of driving it more than off sets any of the issues I have had. At the end of the day it is a low volume, hand built sports car, I knew what I was getting into before I bought it. I didn't want a soulless robot built, German car. Hell even some of those have/had a habit of bursting into flames, which puts a squeaky seat into perspective. ? This is a stunning car, it looks the business, where ever you drive, people stop and stare at it. In Sports mode it is one of the most amazing sounding cars on the road today, it does bring entire groups of people to a stand still (Young and Old). And it's handling and ride are truely phenomenal. They are rare, most people have never seen one, when people come up and ask about it, you really feel you own something unique and special. Hell even the member of her majesty's constabulary who tugged me for possibly exceeding the allowed rate of progression wanted a full tour of the car. "I have never stopped one of these before, it looks incredible". (Didn't stop him giving me a ticket though) Great car, great fun and ably supported by Ken at Snows, a man who is a genuine Lotus enthusiast and manages to infect people with same enthusiasm. Its possible I too may be a hopeless Lotus Fanboy. How the f&@k did that happen?...
  3. The way it was explained to me on the factory tour was; the chassis is so stiff that it enables the suspension springs and dampeners etc up to be softer than other manufacturers. So the poise and handling comes from the chassis stiffness, and the smoothness of the ride comes from the softer setup. I'm sure that is a massive over simplification of how it works but it helped a layman like me to picture it. Certainly the difference in ride between my LE and my 400 is not that the ride is harder, a la the Porsche Cayman I drove for a couple of months, but that the car overall feels stiffer. Tris...
  4. Apologies if this is the wrong place for this but... Anyone here know Windsor well enough to recommend a safe and secure car park in the town. Got to take my 400 up there on Friday and need to park it overnight. I wondered if anyone could recommend anywhere. Thanks Tris...
  5. We were invited to display the car at the Beaulieu Super Car show, this past weekend. Nothing but positive feedback all day, whenever I was near the car people where asking lots of questions about it, very few had seen one in the flesh before so it had the rarity factor. Show had some seriously exotic hardware on display and the 400 had a continual stream of people looking at it. Did the final 'Speed Run' of the day, the feedback I got afterwards was that it was the best sounding car of the lot; "Most pure sounding car out there", even got a "Loved that run sir" from the announcer at the end. :-) Tris...
  6. It was racing a letter from the Scillies to the Isle of Skye wasn't it? Hammond and May lost in the big Porker.
  7. Based on what I saw of the wiring loom, the cabling will probably be there whether the hardware is in place or not. I didn't bother with it anyway, its pretty basic cabling and would struggle to support a high powered Sub & Amp. My personal view would be it is better not to disappoint people with a poor product offering. There is enough feedback on this forum about people do not view the ICE in the car as important, to suggest that removing a poor quality and unreliable Sub is a defendable decision. Where Lotus do seem to be slipping up is in clearly communicating with their customers what options mean and when they are changing the options list what the reason for it is. Tris...
  8. To be honest if the amp and sub where of a similar standard to the ones in the original Evoras, you are better off without them and getting a good aftermarket solution instead. It wasn't a particularly difficult job, even having to re-site the amp in the boot wasn't to hard, even for a no nothing amateur such as myself. The sub positioning in the 400 looks to be the same as the original car. Tris...
  9. Yup. Delivered today, think Ken took the shots straight off the truck, hence the much maligned delivery tape. :-) Just waiting on the DVLA.
  10. Freshly delivered Black Hethel Edition.
  11. How about a smoked plastic disk which you stick over the top? Simple and cheap. Tris...
  12. They were building a lot of Evoras when I was there. Seemed to be Evoras in all stages of build all over the place. Tris...
  13. There were 3 'Essex Blue' cars completed when I did my factory trip a few weeks ago. So there should be at least 3 happy owners. Pretty colour in the flesh. Tris...
  14. I have a friend whose company does leather and interior furnishing work for the marine industry. They do a range of work including high end leather work, they might be able to advise and suggest a way of fixing it without having remove the interior. From what I can see it looks like the stitching has gone, it could be that by doing the work by hand, they might be able to fix it in-situ. They are based in Hamble, Hampshire, which is a bit of hike from you, but if you are interested PM me and I will give you their contact details. Tris...
  15. They did, they were stuck on the drivers side outer door sill. Mine had one when I initially test drove it and some time between my final viewing and the car being delivered, it got nicked off the car. Why someone would nick it is open for debate... Ken at Snows was as surprised as anyone, looked like someone had come in and pealed it off, we could still see the sticky back on the door moulding. When we chased it up with Lotus, they confirmed that they had put plaques on the cars, but they didn't have any spares. Plaque basically said it was a Launch Edition Evora, and that was about it, no numbering sequence or personalisation. Tris...
  16. Stop it! Time is dragging enough waiting for my 400 to be delivered. This is not helping! :-) Tris...
  17. Depends on the size of your mug, but my mug fitted very nicely in the back of the door pocket. Back is wider than the front, don't know whether this was a design element or coincidence, but it is just the right width to hold a standardish thermal mug. Tris...
  18. Hey each to their own, but why those things? For me one of the reasons I went for a Lotus was because it didn't have all of these electronic fripperies. Its a simpler and more emersive driving experience because you have to interact with the car more. I still don't see why they've added a start button to the 400, you still have to insert the key and turn it for the button to work. Just now rather than just turning the key and starting the engine, you have to turn the key, move your hand and press a button. Seems slightly pointless, but I suppose you have to interact with the car more. :-) Tris...
  19. Just because you want a Sports Car doesn't mean you shouldn't want to have a decent sound system. In fact having a Sports Car usually means you need a premium system in order to get the bass and music detail to come through the acoustics of the engine, wheels and chassis. Doesn't have to be expensive though, I upgraded the speakers in 'Ethel', a full set of Components, an 8" Sub and 400W Amplifier. It totally transformed the sound system, but didn't add very much weight, the Components were lighter then the standard ones, the Sub was slightly heavier than stock. Amp was the only piece which was noticeably heavier, but only by maybe a kilo or so. The hardware cost around £700 in total, and then there was just my time to fit the speakers. Depends on how much work you can do yourself I suppose. Tris...
  20. The funny thing is, I had a mooch around the Porsche web site the other day and spec'd up a GT4 to the level I would want it to be, and it came out marginally more expensive than the 400. So in true Porch style, you can't go by the headline price, because much of what you want isn't standard. 911 was eye wateringly high by the time I had finished with it. Tris...
  21. Owned it up until 2 or 3 weeks ago. Great car, was a real battle with myself whether I was going to trade up to a 400. It is in good condition, needs a service but other than that nothing significant to worry about. When I bought the car, I test drove a N/A & S and for me there wasn't a big enough difference between the two to justify the extra cost and drop in MPG. I was doing a lot of milage at the time, and as daft as it may sound the extra MPG was attractive. Never really regretted the choice, a N/A is still a properly quick car. Tris...
  22. The Silver Launch Edition?
  23. Carbon grey, with Alcatera interior, silver wheels and obviously Cruise control. Just need time to go a bit quicker
  24. The seats in my LE had 2-3mm washers between the runners and the floor. I remember reading some people had removed them and felt they noticed the height difference. Has any looked to see if it is the same on the 400? Tris...
