Hi all,
I know this is not strictly a Lotus but a Westfield replica of a Lotus Eleven but I have just bought this in my quest to put together a collection of Lotus's from every decade since formation so hopefully posting it on here is OK, the originals go for around £130K now so this will have to do for my 50's example.
It is brand new but the fly in the ointment is that it is nearly finished being built by the current owner but it has yet to get through its SVA test to make it road legal, this shouldn't be too painful but I guess you never know the outcome till you get stuck in and to be fair the last Westfield I owned was a disaster as I bought a cut and shut without knowing and that was a death trap in which I had to replace the chassis + other bits a bobs.
But I just can't resist a pretty car and I have to say that I find it totally stunning, one of the prettiest cars I have ever seen, I'd be quite happy to put it in the living room as an ornament but I think my wife may have something to say on that :-)
So let's see how things pan out when I put it in for an SVA, in fact Westfield have said they will help with this so fingers crossed, watch this space.
More pictures to follow once I get it home.

Cheers,
Paul.

Hi all,
So I have been challenged by one of my friends on Facebook to list 10 vinyl albums that greatly influenced my music taste over the years, funnily enough I said to Wendy around a year ago that something similar would make a great blog so I guess with the world in lockdown there is no better time to put my thinking cap on and create a list of albums that helped form my love of music.
I have given this a fair bit of thought over the last few days and I have got it down to 12 albums that to be fair were all recorded between 45 to 25 years ago, as much as I love finding new music it is going back to my favourite's that really give me the most enjoyment when I sit down to listen at home.
The funny thing with this list is that although I love all these albums, it is also the artists that I really love, I mean I could have filled the top 10 with all Bruce Springsteen's albums but this is more the albums that I grew up with, changed me in some way and that I go back to regularly to listen to.
So here we go, these are in no particular order and I apologise for none of them, I will write a few words on each one but will keep it short and sweet and will add another one Daily with my all time favourite album listed last, hope you enjoy and any thoughts feel free to mail me.
Album 1
Elvis - Moody Blue
Elvis was my first love in music, I was 8 when he died and it left a real mark on me how his death affected people around me, this was my first Vinyl record bought by my Nan for me in 1977 and Elvis's last studio album, I went to Graceland in the early 90's and even today Elvis is the biggest part of my vinyl and CD collection which I listen to regularly.

Album 2 - Coming Tomorrow
Cheers,
Paul.

Hi All,
WOW, what can I say, firstly I just want to send out a massive thank you to everyone at Wilson Audio for making us so welcome and also to Absolute Sounds for helping organise this trip, today was a very special day indeed, also a very long one, started at 7am and it is now midnight and we have just got back so I will keep this short as I need some sleep, the first thing we did today was a Wilson Audio factory tour which was absolutely gob smacking, the attention to detail at Wilson Audio and work involved in creating a Wilson speaker has to be second to none, more on that in another post though as there is a lot to talk about there.
So the main event for today and possibly my entire life was being invited into the Wilson Family home to hear the WAMM - Master Chronosonic speakers, they are around £650k for the speakers on their own and nearer to £1 Million with the bass towers, to be fair I am not going to even try to describe how they sound as that really is a pointless exercise, needless to say I have never heard anything create music like this, on a few occasions the speakers really did disappear and the artists where in the room, their scale, dynamics, imaging and sound staging are like nothing I have ever heard before, on at least one occasion the slam of the bass made me jump, never had that experience before I have to say :-)
I couldn’t help thinking to myself that around 6 years ago Wendy and myself decided to sell our house to try and start a HiFi Shop and here I am sitting in the Wilson Family home listening to what has to be the most impressive speaker ever built that only a few people are ever going to be lucky enough to hear as only 70 pairs are only ever going to be built, what a good decision that turned out to be :-)
How I go back to reality now I will never know, tomorrow we are off to a recording studio that is kitted out with Wilson Audio speakers so another fun day by the sounds of it, in the meantime here are a few pictures from this amazing experience this evening -

The inner workings, these really are like fine Swiss Time Pieces.

Amazing, and thanks again to everyone who made this possible.

Finally got a chance to take the Caterham out with it's aero screen fitted, tired it with a helmet which was a better experience than I thought but really impressed how good it is to drive without a helmet, haven't been hit at 70mph by any flies yet though so that may change my mind :-)

Cheers,
Paul.

Hi Everyone,
I thought I would just jot down a few thoughts from my first drive in the Radical SR1 at Oulton Park on Friday, I must say I was very relieved to finally get out in the car after our first 2 tests being cancelled due to snow and with my first race less than 1 week away.
So how did it go? well looking back a couple of days later I would say I was fairly happy although I need to go a fair bit faster but for my first drive in the car at a circuit I didn’t know and to be fair is a pretty scary track, then I was reasonably happy at the end of the day.
Blimey It’s Fast!
So as an overview of the day, basically it was a general test day so there was some seriously quick machinery there of all kinds, it was quite cool start to the day when sitting in the cafe on my own eating a sausage sandwich and Matt Neal walked in, the triple British Touring Car Champion, to get his breakfast, that actually bought it home a little that this was all about to get quite serious.
The day was broken down into 4 x 30 minute sessions, I had 2 drives in the morning and another 2 in the afternoon, below are my thoughts on how each session went.

Session 1
So to say I was nervous would be a slight understatement as I had only driven 3 track days before and done some karting a few years ago but the guys as UPE Motorsport really helped me settle into the car and made me feel like there was no pressure and I need to get to feel the car first and to find my own limits.
So bearing in mind that the car had never been driven before in an ideal world we would have had someone who knows Radicals shake the car down but due to the test day cancellations this was never done so came down to me, so it was a case of going out for one lap then coming straight back in which I did and to me at least everything felt great, then I repeated the same but this time for 3 laps and then back in, again all seemed good so then I was free to go out until the end of the session and to start building my speed up but before I knew it the 30 mins was over and I was back in the pits but happy with my first drive.

Session 2
So now it was time to start pushing the car a little, as the track was still damp we did session 1 and 2 on wets which still felt very quick indeed and to be fair I still wasn’t reaching the limits of the tyres or the car, it’s really hard to describe how fast and physical these cars are, I had been practicing on Project Cars on Xbox which is great for learning the circuit but has no real way of giving you the sensation of speed and how scary it can be, in the game I can take some corners easily flat but in real life this is a very different story.
So during this session I was reasonably happy with my progress and got down to a 1m 59 second lap time which apparently on wets was pretty respectable, one thing I did notice was that when going down the main straight I was noticing that my head was being pushed back due to doing over 100 mph without a wind screen and after a while my neck was really starting to hurt, so after a couple of trips into the pits the guys added extra padding to the headrest which ended up helping a lot, looks like I need to get down the gym to start working my neck out

Session 3
So after a quick bite of lunch I was back in the car, this time on dry tyres so I was expecting to take quite a chunk of my time but in the end it ended up being a bit of a messy session with yellow flags then a red flag to stop the session and I was still concerned about my neck pain so I actually ended up going 2 secs slower, to say I was not impressed is a understatement so I went off, sat in the van and gave myself a telling off This was actually becoming a lot harder than I thought as the quick guys were doing 1 min 50′s so I was 10 secs of the pace which was quite shocking as it felt like I was going really fast, It’s much easier watching it on the TV that’s for sure.

Session 4
So with this being the last session of the day and my last drive in the car before qualifying the following weekend for my first race I was determined to try harder and to find some time, in the end I got down to a 1 min 56 which made me a little happier as at least I improved and I got within 1 sec of my team mate who raced his Radical last year so he is a very good benchmark but there is still a lot more speed in the car, I just need to find it in myself to man up and to throw caution to the wind a little more.
I have spent all weekend watching quick laps round Oulton Park in Radical’s on You Tube and to be fair I am pretty happy with my lines and breaking but there are 3 really quick corners at Oulton and I am sure it is here that I am loosing most of my time as well as that I am lifting when approaching Druids which should be flat out so I am confident that when next back in the car for Qualifying I can find some more time.
Doing quick laps on your own is one thing though but once it comes to racing then I am sure that will be a totally different experience again.

1st Race This Weekend

So this Easter weekend I have qualifying on Saturday followed by 2 x 20 minute races, certainly going to be a fun weekend, I hope my body has recovered by then as my arms and neck are still aching a fair bit, I have ordered some brave pills from the chemist as I know that all the extra speed I need is in me not being such a wimp in the quick stuff, to be honest though I am gagging to get back in the car to see if I can find that missing time.
Watch this space and I will report back after the first race weekend and will hopefully be able to load up some race footage.
Cheers,
Paul.

Hi Guys,

Just thought that I would upload a few pictures of my recently purchased S2 M100, unfortunately it failed its MOT last week so is going back in later this week to get it sorted.

Yesterday I setup the Carcoon Veloce in the metal garage I had built a few weeks ago for the Elan to live in as I have now found out that a metal garage really isn't a great idea especially where condensation in involved, I went in the garage the other day and the while bodywork had a layer of condensation on it with beads of water sitting on the wheels, hopefully the Carcoon will remedy this.

As far as putting together the Carcoon it was a real doddle, even for a DIY numpty like me, all in all it took around 2 hours, I went with a small which fits the Elan perfectly, may get one for the LF1 next.

After around 3 years of looking I took delivery this week of an S3 Esprit :-)
I'm really hoping it is a good one, it does appear to be but I am no expert, bought it from UK Sports cars, it has been totally restored and in honesty it is as if it has been transported back from 1985 as it is almost like new but it has done 74,000 miles and has had 12 owners, so I am lucky No 13.
I must admit I was taken by it's condition and decided that if there are mechanical gremlins then everything is fixable, time will tell I guess but at the moment I am very happy :-)
I had the wheels diamond cut and painted before delivery but will look to add a set of Comps in the not too distant future.
Just hope it drives as good as it looks :-)

Cheers,
Paul.

Time will tell but I feel we may have bitten off more than we can chew trying to run 5 demo rooms tomorrow, taken all day to set up but getting there, the fun part was getting the mighty PMC MB2 SE's down the stairs, luckily Wendy is a strong lass :-)
A couple more hours and we should be done,
Look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow,

Does anyone know who is under this “Brilliant Disguise’ :-)

Hi Everyone,
This is just a quick heads up to say that Devialet have decided to make the very special and severely limited Gold Phantom ‘Opera de Paris’ edition available in the UK for a short time and whilst stocks last and the good news is that it only costs £200 more than the standard Gold Phantom at £2390.
Earlier this year, the Paris Opera and Devialet announced a ten-year partnership and licensing agreement. To celebrate the occasion, the pair have created a special limited edition Opéra de Paris Gold Phantom.
Inspired by the gilded interiors of Palais Garnier (home to the Paris Opera), this special edition Phantom gets special side inserts thanks to hand-applied leafs of a palladium-yellow gold alloy called Moon Gold, so a very special Phantom indeed that performs as the top of the range Gold Phantom but looks truly stunning.
If you are interested please let us know asap as these really are not going to hang around long.

Cheers,
Paul.

HFL Motorsport Season 3 Starts This Saturday!
Hi Everyone,
So here we go again, I get asked a lot what my plans are for this year regarding motorsport, well things kick of this Saturday morning as I have signed up for a 10 race season’s racing in the Senna Cup at Rye House in the Go Karts that we used for our Boys Toys Day last year as I really enjoyed that and it whetted my appetite for more Karting, the funny thing was that my best session in the the Radical last year was the first practice session at Donington which was straight after the karting where I went 2 seconds a lap faster than my previous best so I am hoping that doing more karting will help my Radical racing as the main thing with karting is that you can race hard and be fearless whereas in the Radical driving to the limit takes some real balls and commitment and in all honesty I am still struggling in fast corners with the Radical so it will certainly be an interesting experiment to see if the Karting helps me in the Radical, either way it will be fun finding out.
So the first race is at 10am at Rye, 15 mins qualifying with a 45 minute race, apparently there is a full 26 kart grid, now as Rye is a bit of a proving ground for up and coming talent then I am sure I am going to get my arse whipped by some young whipper snappers who are just out of nappies and weigh nothing but I am really looking forward to giving it a try.
As for the Radical racing this year, I don’t think I will be able to do a full season but aim to do at least half the season plus some testing and there is a chance of also racing at Spa which would be a huge tick on the bucket list but need to see the cost involved in that first, may have to get my begging hat out for that one.
Anyway If anyone wants to see how we get on Saturday at Rye live timing is available from the link below -
https://live.alphatiming.co.uk/rye
Can’t wait to find out myself.
Cheers,
Paul.

Hi All,
Many of you already know this but in true HiFi style we are upgrading :-) Well we are opening 2 more showrooms to be exact so I thought I would start a blog that I will update regularly with progress reports and pictures.
We are now in our 5th year, not quite sure where that time has gone to be honest but firstly Wendy and myself would like to thank everyone for your support over that time, it really has flown by and has been great fun. Looking back I would say We have tried to grow HiFi Lounge organically during that time adding brands that we think will fit in well with our portfolio with not too much crossover so over the last 4.5 years I feel we have grown steadily. A couple of years ago we took on another building and started Highend Headphones which is Wendy’s domain and has become a very popular part of HiFi Lounge, and then a couple of months ago the 2 stables that link HiFi Lounge and Highend Headphones came up for rent so it was decision time, now for the last 12 months HiFi Lounge has really been running out of space so we thought we would go for it and make a substantial re-investment in pushing HiFi Lounge forward again and signed the lease on the new buildings and started to think on what we would do with the new space.
So the master plan is 2 knock a few walls about to link HiFi Lounge and Highend Headphones to create one big space with several demo rooms offering HiFi and Headphones at many different price points, hopefully offering something for most people who are interested in quality music playback.
So the good news is that work started seriously a couple of weeks ago with the police monitored alarm and security camera’s going in which it could be argued is the most important part being how isolated we are, then all being well the builders are starting next week which could cause a little disruption as they have got to knock through into HiFi Lounge’s downstairs demo room to create a door into one of the new demo rooms + another one through to Wendy’s but then at least once that is done it will feel like real progress has been made. Then finally they have to got to put up a partition walls in each demo room.
In theory this should take a couple of weeks, then it is just a matter of installing appropriate electronics and networking, then making good and decorating, getting the carpet down and then start kitting out the new rooms, bizarrely enough it is the new sofa’s which could let the whole process down as they are going to take around 12 weeks to come in. Funny really as when the units came up I thought yes we’ll go for that but it isn’t until you get stuck in that you realise how much work and cost is involved into getting them converted for use as HiFi demo rooms, it will be well worth the effort though in the end, well hopefully :-)
So what are we going to use these new showrooms for? Well the first one that is going to lead off from HiFi Lounge is going to be a dedicated Naim room, we have most of the Naim range on permanent demo so it will be nice to have it all set up in one dedicated space. The 2nd new room is the cause for most of the investment as we have decided to dip our toe into the higher end of audio by bringing on brands such as Audio Research, dCS and Wilson Audio so that will be our Highend Room, so really looking forward to getting that up and running :-)
Needless to say we will announce plans for Open days once we have a better idea on how the work is going but we plan to hold 2 launch events hopefully around April time, one for the Naim room where Naim are going to bring along a Statement which we will hook up to a pair of PMC MB2 XBD’s or BB5′s and we will do another event to launch the highend room shortly after.
So that is the master plan for 2017, I will try to update this regularly with progress reports and pictures as the rooms start to take shape but here are a couple to get it all started.

Hi All,   Had my first track day this week over at Bedford Autodrome, watch out Lewis :-)   The morning session was very wet which made trying to learn the circuit a challenge as the Caterham was constantly trying to swap ends on me but I actually really enjoyed it which surprised me but luckily the afternoon dried out which was much more fun, really loved the fast flowing parts of the track.   I think I have well and truly got the bug now though with another one booked for a couple of weeks time, I can see this being a slippery slope :-)             Cheers, Paul.

HI all,
Just a quick blog to say that we are pleased to have the brand new Focal Kanta No2 Floorstanding loudspeakers now on permanent demo, these are a 3 way design with very unique styling which really is quite stylish, especially when you see them first hand.
Other than the Styling the Kanta No2 is also noteworthy as it has Focal’s Beryllium tweeter mixed with their Flax material for the other drivers, this is a first for Focal to put the 2 technologies together which gives a detailed sound but also giving a generally warm and natural presentation, I am running them in at the moment and have to say they are extremely good. Priced at £6999 I can see these going up against the excellent PMC Twenty5.26′s quite regularly in demo’s.
Back to the styling for a moment, I don’t think I have known a speaker to come in such a wide range of finishes, please see below for all the colour choices, 8 in total, now I have to admit that I am not normally one for being conservative but on this occasion I went for the gloss black finish, which seems a travesty when Focal have gone to such great lengths to offer so many interesting finishes, but the gloss black as it has a really nice silver fleck in it which really does sparkle and looks quite stunning.
So if you have any questions or would like to come in for a demo anytime please feel free to get in touch.

Hi All,
Gorgeous day yesterday so time to get some of the cars out after a long winter tucked away, amazed that the Esprit started first time and reverse gear seems to be working a treat at the moment which was a real issue last year, really can't wait to get her running well this year.

Hi All,
Just doing a final sound check ahead of our Wilson Audio Open Day tomorrow, been a busy day setting up but everything really is sounding great, certainly looking like it is going to be a busy day with people coming from all over the country and with more people registering for this open day than any before so Wendy has been busy turning 10 loaves of bread into sandwiches, it has been like a military operation in the kitchen
Really looking forward to seeing everyone tomorrow, it’s going to be a good one.
A fine selection of Wilson Speakers ready to rock.
The TuneTot’s are in the upstairs demo room fed by the Melco N100, Chord Electronics Hugo TT2 and M Scaler with Bryston BP17 Pre and a 4B SST3 power amp and the iconic Michell Orbe turntable.

The Sabrina’s are in the Naim Lounge fed by the full 500 System and the Rega Planar 8 Turntable.

And the star of the show, the new Sasha DAW’s are in the Highend Room driven by Audio Research 160M Monos Blocks, a REF 6 Pre, dCS Rossini and Melco N1ZS and the cherry on the top, the VPI Prime Signature, all very nice indeed.

Let the fun begin,
Cheers,

Hi Everyone,
This is just a quickie to say that we now have the Magneplanar 20.7 Speakers on Demo, most definitely the biggest speaker we ever have had in HiFi Lounge that is for sure but they really do sound absolutely incredible.
I love Maggies but due to their size they are not for everyone but pretty much everyone that hears them are captivated by them, they offer a presentation quite like nothing else so when a customer rang a couple of weeks ago enquiring if he could demo the 3.7’s, which we have on permanent demo, against the 20.7’s I was as keen as mustard to get it arranged, more on a personal note really as I have been wanting for years to spend some quality time with the 20.7’s. In a stroke of luck Symmetry were using them at the Ascot show which we were working at so after the show we picked them up and bought them straight back here, happy days.
The demo is tomorrow so I’m sure the customer will be won over by the 20.7’s, just hope he can fit them in his house.

Hi All,
Just a really quick one to say that we now have the new Accuphase E-800 Pure Class A Integrated amplifier now on Demo, this is my first foray into Class A solid state amplification and I have to say I can see why people like this kind of amplification as it really does give an extremely natural presentation but with great control, it really is very engrossing.
The E-800 is basically 50 watts into 8 ohms which at Class A is pretty much enough power to drive any speakers out there, it's certainly not small but if you are looking for an amp to get the best out of your speakers and prefer your HiFi more on the musical side then I would highly recommend giving the E-800 a good listen.
Cheers,
Paul.

Hi All,

Just thought I would upload a couple of Vids shot over the weekend when coming back from the British GP which shows my LF1 with a Larini backbox recently fitted.

I have always found the stock exhaust a little underwhelming and the Larini is most definitely a step in the right direction but I will probably add the manifold next as I would still like a bit more roar :)

The idea was to do a drive by and then turn round and come back but a Mustang decided to join in, it actually makes a good comparison against the Larini :)

Well after a very troubled start to our relationship it looks like the Esprit is now finally ready to start a new chapter in her life as at long last she seems to be running well and I actually got her to work this morning, thanks to @Sparky who worked his magic on her 👍
Everywhere you park her it is a Leica moment in my eyes 😍😍

Hi All,
Just wanted to let everyone know that we now have the new Arcam SA30 integrated amplifier on permanent demo, this has got to be the best value fully loaded amplifier on the market today at £1999 but for me the killer feature is that it includes Dirac room correction in a 2 channel amplifier, as soon as I heard how big of an improvement Dirac made to music through the Arcam receivers a few years ago I knew it was only a matter of time before it was introduced into Arcam's 2 channel amps, it really is a game changer, not only that but it is also a streamer, a Roon endpoint and fully MQA compatible with a MC and MM phono stage built in, all you need to do is add speakers and you are up and running.
Please see below for the features this amplifier includes, it really is quite incredible, we have been running it in on our Fyne Audio F702 speakers, now you wouldn't normally put a amp at this price with a pair of speakers costing £6749 but it just shows how powerful the Glass G amplification is in the SA30, it is actually a great pairing.

Class G amplification for impeccable sound and efficiency 120W of power per channel into 8Ω, 220W into 4Ω 5 analogue inputs including switchable MM/MC PHONO input 4 digital inputs 1 ARC input GoogleCast, Airplay 2, uPnP Streamer Roon endpoint MQA supported 3 Dirac EQ profiles (input assignable) 32-bit DAC,Sabre ESS9038K2M Full I/P control including Control4 and Crestron Total harmonic distortion + noise = 0.002%

Please see below for the SA30 on our website and if you'd like to come in for a demo anytime please feel free. https://hifilounge.co.uk/product-category/brands/arcam/arcam-hda-range/
Cheers,

Hi All,

The same as many of you I have been looking forward to Devialet’s Phantom since announced late last year, well now the wait is over as our demo stock has just arrived so before I go and have a play I thought I would post a few pictures of the un-boxing of both the Silver Phantom and Dialog, our standard Demo Phantom will be with us early next week, I have to say that Devialet really have gone to town on the packaging, you really do feel like you really have purchased something very special indeed.

Also they say that a heavy product is a sign of quality, well Phantom is certainly a quality product as it weighs a tonne, literally speaking, I know anyone who buys one will be really surprised at the weight considering its size.

I guess I should take this opportunity to promote our Devialet Open Day again on July 25th where you will be able to hear Phantom and Expert amps running with representatives here from Devialet, I am thinking of running Expert in HiFi Lounge with Phantom in Highend Headphones then we can have both running all day, I will confirm the setups nearer the time, more info below -

Hi All,

I thought I would start a blog sharing my 2 loves, basically all things Lotus and HiFi, hopefully some will find it enjoyable.

My first love was the Lotus Elan M100, I spent a couple of years dreaming of owning one, it really was love at first site when announced, then in 1992 I took delivery of a brand new red one, that started a love affair with all things Lotus which after a few different Lotus's has just resulted in the ordering of a LF1 which I still feel guilty about ordering as for me that is a crazy amount to spend on a car but when I saw it at the Lotus Silverstone dealer at the British GP I just couldn't stop thinking about it, I often say that ignorance is bliss and that just proves it, can't wait for delivery though :)

My other love is for all things to do with music, especially live music and hifi, this resulted in shutting down my print business and my wife and I selling our house a couple of years ago to free up the equity and following the dream of becoming a hifi dealer, so far it has been a case of so far so good as we are now approaching the completion of our 2nd year and we are still here :) In fact we are just about to open our 2nd shop which will be focusing on Highend Headphones which will certainly be interesting as no one else is really doing this so it is a total punt but fingers crossed.

Anyway I will post news stories to do with HiFi and Headphones as well as pics from when I get the LF1 and updates on how I am getting on with it.

Cheers,
Paul.
