Not sure where you are seeing all this bitterness on show 🤔 The majority of remarks are about how crap Masi and the stewards have been all season in applying the rules in F1, even a large number of drivers have spoken out about it. Yes there’s some comments about Max’ driving style and his attitude (whilst Dieter is talking about the “sporting code” maybe he would like to analyse Max walking away after landing his car on top of Lewis without checking that he was ok) but I only see banter between a few posters.

This is exactly why the situation rankles with people, including many of the F1 drivers afterwards. Having established an unassailable leading position before the safety car was required, the race was finally engineered into a 1 lap shoot out which quite honestly was an unbelievable decision, particularly since rules were broken to engineer a finale. Note, I doubt very much that it was in Masi’s mind to fix the race and hence the championship, but he is extremely guilty of manipulating the rule book to engineer a spectacle finale without any consideration for the previous 50 laps. He certainly has a lot of explaining to do for his actions this season when he finally comes out of hiding!

Lol, and Max will still be allowed to continue to push other cars off the track without being penalised 😛

Under FIA rules, hasn’t Schumacher’s record already been broken though. This season if the drivers finished the championship level on points then it went to the driver with the most race victories (apparently including the victory from the race which never took place at Spa). Hence by my application of FIA rules, LH & MS are level at 7 championships each but since LH has the impost race wins he must have broken MS’s record 🤔

@jimichangaI am not particularly a LH fan so my views are not as biased as you might believe. (although LH has gained my respect for how he has handled the situation afterwards) Masi’s application of the rules actually went against more than 1 of the rules, (see my link to Motorsport article which I think @C8RKHhas summarised above) LH cut the corner early in the race because he was forced off the track, so by not being ordered to give the position back saved Masi from having to consider a time penalty for MV. No, of course the race wasn’t rigged, and it is clear that Lafiti’s unfortunate accident put Masi in to a difficult situation. However he handled it very badly without using an ounce of common sense. What Masi did at Spa was also beyond belief, a 2 lap “race” behind a safety car to be able to declare a result. He has demonstrated this season that he is unfit to be race director. So, we have different opinions hence we will have to agree to disagree.

Mark Webber called it absolutely right in his comment last night. He said “allowing that last lap race was like inviting 2 guys to have a gun fight to resolve their differences and giving one of them a knife” @jimichangayour analysis really says ‘the rules, common sense and F1’s credibility are meaningless. Next season let’s just have every race as a 1 lap shootout BTW, Lewis decided not to pit during the virtual SC, not his team
  8. The deaths from Covid, whilst tragically high, are higher than they really are since it is deaths with rather than from. No difference in this 1 death reported, was it with or from?

Mercedes have made it clear that any request for an FIA enquiry is against the way the race was handled and that it is not aimed in any way towards Max or RBR. Max has the title and that’s the way it will stay. What happened was no fault of his but I do believe that Horner, who now seems to have turned into an even bigger hypocrite with his post race comments, was implicit in engineering Masi’s decision. After this and what Masi did at Spa I’m amazed that he has not been relieved of his duties this morning

Whilst we are all trying to analyse Masi’s performance yesterday, thinking about his remark to Toto afterwards when Toto complained about that last few laps fiasco, to which Masi replied in an arrogant manner “it’s called motor racing Toto,” let’s not forget Masi’s performance at Spa this year. A race delayed by heavy rain which Masi decided would be decided by 2 laps behind a safety car. Half points were then awarded as per the grid positions so Max benefitted from 5 points without a race being run. Not only did Masi cheat F1’s money paying fans at that “race” it is another example of his “strange” decision making. He has manipulated not just the result of one race but quite possibly an entire F1 season!

Flip it around Bibs, what would Horner be doing now if it had happened the other way round? He did enough moaning and prompting of Masi during the race and especially during those safety car laps when he basically instructed Masi what to do.

Here is the statement from the stewards. Note the last 2 paras in bold, it appears to state that these are the rules and they weren’t followed but there is a separate rule which allows the race director to control the safety car which may change the rules? Bizarre! IMO the FIA are guilty of bringing the “sport” in to disrepute. Masi cannot carry on beyond this😠 “At restarts after safety-car periods, lapped cars are normally allowed to pass the leaders and un-lap themselves so they do not interfere with the race. Masi allowed the drivers between Hamilton and Verstappen to pass them, giving Verstappen a clear run at his rival. But did not do the same to the cars between Verstappen and third-placed Carlos Sainz's Ferrari. Article 48.12 of the sporting regulations says: "If the clerk of the course considers it safe to do so, and the message 'lapped cars may now overtake' has been sent to all competitors via the official messaging system, any cars that have been lapped by the leader will be required to pass the cars on the lead lap and the safety car." At the same time, article 48.12 of the sporting regulations says that "once the last lapped car has passed the leader, the safety car will return to the pits at the end of the following lap". In this case, the race was started at the end of the same lap. Had both rules been applied in this way, Mercedes argued, Hamilton would have won the race. The stewards ruled that a separate rule gave Masi the power to control the safety car, which "includes its deployment and withdrawal". They added: "Although article 48.12 may not have been applied fully, in relation to the safety car returning to the pits at the end of the following lap, article 48.13 overrides that and once the message 'safety car in this lap' has been displayed, it is mandatory to withdraw the safety car at the end of that lap. “

The big loser today was F1 I'm still fuming after hearing what Horner said to Masi. Jenson Button was absolutely right when he said that the teams should not be able to speak to the race director during a race. This has to change for next year!

12 seconds ahead with 6 laps to go with the guy in 2nd place not making any headway in reducing that lead. The race should have finished under the safety car, then Horner has a word with Masi and tells him that the back markers should be told to move over and his words were something like “we only need 1 racing lap” A complete disgrace. Yes @PascalMyou have a world champion who was gifted the championship. Had he been making progress in the race I wouldn’t have minded but it was handed to him on a plate by the race director and that is what history will show!
  17. Exactly, it’s a no win situation for any govt, especially with today’s pathetic media and, over here, the even more pathetic opposition parties. For all of his faults, and he has many, not a single one of the opposition party members would want to have been in Boris’ shoes these past 18 months.

Oh dear Max, what a mis-guided individual you are! You should be regarding yourself as a little fortunate in the way you have been dealt with after the past few weeks. https://www.crash.net/f1/news/994371/1/unfair-i-m-treated-differently-other-f1-drivers-verstappen I see the FIA have issued a warning that a points deduction will be considered for any unfair or unsporting behaviour on track this weekend
  20. The Beeb will do anything that suits and pushes their agenda. I’ve just this morning witnessed the awful Naga quickly jump in to shut someone up because she was talking sense, but that wasn’t what she/they wanted to hear. As for the leaks that are coming from no10, anyone else thinking that the petulant and sulky Cummings could be behind it?

Interesting that Masi’s views of the bargaining which took place between himself and the teams differ completely from the comment by Horner in his interview after the race that “such a discussion was unprecedented” However, it is more interesting to carefully watch the 5 second clip in the report which, in my view (happy to be corrected), shows that Verstappen slowed, accelerated then slowed again and when Hamilton looked to get past Verstappen moved from the outside of the track to the middle to cut the space out with a slight weave thrown in https://www.formula1.com/en/latest/article.fia-race-director-masi-explains-key-decisions-in-crackling-saudi-arabian.2HDDnrVBySFFmiefIndbSr.html

Does anyone know if the Netflix ‘Drive to Survive’ series is still being made this season. If it is then it is certainly going to make interesting viewing, although I’d probably want to throw a brick at the TV when Baby Spice Horner is on😠

I also find this comment from ‘Baby Spice’ confirms the RB approach of winning at any cost. FIA, get the rules defined properly before this deranged driver kills someone! Red Bull team principal Christian Horner said he felt the penalty was "harsh", adding: "Is he [Verstappen] solely to blame if two drivers run off track?"
