  1. And the very last person to be hanged for a crime other than murder in the UK was Theodore Schurch who was executed for treachery the day after Joyce. The last executions in the UK were of Peter Anthony Allen, at Walton Prison in Liverpool, and Gwynne Owen Evans, at Strangeways Prison in Manchester, in 1964. However, the last death sentence handed out was to David Chapman, who was sentenced to hang in November 1965 but he was released from prison in 1979 (in some form of poetic justice he was killed in a car accident shortly after his release apparently). There is no longer a death pe
  2. I've had an email with very similar facts to the one's Carolyn posted, but you can't believe everything you read..... All of the clocks in the movie Pulp Fiction are stuck on 4.20 There is a persistent myth that that all the clocks in the movie are set to 4:20 (although, certainly all the clocks on the wall in the pawn shop are set to 4:20). However, in at least two scenes it is obvious that this is not the case. In the "Bonnie Situation" while Jimmy, Vince and Jules are drinking coffee in the kitchen, the clock clearly reads 8:15. Secondly, when Vince and Jules go to retrieve the briefca
  3. The nursery rhyme is 'Ring a ring o' Roses' (at least that's the UK version, there are many, many others and the US version is a bit different I believe). The link to the bubonic plague/black death is supposed to be: Ring a ring o' roses, - A reference to the rash that would appear on people inflicted with the plague A pocketful of posies. - sweet smelling flowers to disguise the smell of a victim ah-tishoo, ah-tishoo. - sneezes We all fall down. - eventual death There isn't actually any evidence to link the two though & there are lots of further verses and different versions sung
  4. MOT test.... winters here,

It took us the best part of 5 hours to drive back from South Wales yesterday afternoon. It was rain/snow/sleet all the way, not fun. Just rain this morning though. We were talking about a white Christmas at work this morning, the odds for snow on Christmas day: Belfast - 9/2 Dublin - 6/1 Glasgow - 3/1 Cardiff - 6/1 London - 4/1
  6. Isn't the National speed limit for HGV's (over 7.5 ton) 60mph on a motorway? Perhaps companies are just making sure there's no way their drivers are going to pick up a speeding ticket
  7. What he's not mentioning is that it's a paintball gun (not loaded & not gassed), not quite as effective

    Summer Ball 2008

Keep the 18th of October 2008 free in your diaries folks More to follow
  9. What he said. That was an amazing gig with Motorhead and Queens of the stone age as support acts too, Lemmy also came on & joined the Foo's for a song. Just to be pedantic Brian May & Roger Taylor actually joined Taylor Hawkins, AKA Captain Beyond the Foo's drummer, for Tie Your Mother Down. At their gigs Taylor & Dave often swap places as Taylor Hawkins also sings, plays guitar and writes his own material and we all know Dave Grohl can bash the skins. On this occasion Dave was relegated to 2nd Guitar & Taylor sung.... but I'm sinking in to my own sad little Foo Fighters
  10. If you're a long distance lorry driver you might disagree. An extra 5mph is, what, nearly 30 mins over 200 miles. That 10 mins of inconvenience for you on a motorway is half an hour off their day. Wouldn't you think sod the traffic behind me I want to get to my job that bit earlier & in turn get home that bit earlier? d
  11. Panic over, you can all go home now.... at least for Yarmouth anyway.
  12. Just seen this sitting outside my local Londis, I automatically presumed we had company & I just didn't recognise the car. Called Bibs, realised we didn't & we both hung around in the rain hoping the owner would show up but alas no joy. Still, we've put the new LEF business cards in to use and hopefully if you're not already a member we've enticed you here!
  13. I work next door to the ExCel centre, I'll keep an eye out for it going in

    Good recipe

Blimey is this LEF or The WI? My favorite recipes are all top secret so I couldn't possibly share them but we do cook up a lovely lamb wellington with a mushroom duxelle, if I can dig out the recipe when I get home I'll post it up (then I'll have to kill you all for reading it ).
  15. Swans: Traditionally, the Queen owns all unmarked mute swans on the River Thames (interestingly whales and sturgeons are royal fish, and when taken become the personal property of the Queen as part of her royal prerogative). Deer/Road kill: If you hit an animal and take it home, technically that is poaching. You are allowed to take anything the person in front of you has hit as that is simply road kill
  16. You'd better do, I plan to be well and truly retired at 30, I want to live life as a proper WAG.... a kept woman

  19. It's Ok Simon, I'm only kidding. It's my age old identity crisis of only being known as Mrs Bibs... I am my own person!!!
  20. Apparently: Us Brits are certainly the minority though, Blue = Drive on Left, Red = Drive on right Not guaranteed to be accurate but normally reliable source
  21. Click on the 'my controls' option at the top of the screen, scroll right down to the bottom and on the left hand side is the change password option If you can't do that, click this If you need pics, lemme know
  22. Tickets & experiences are a top pressies. Bibs bought me tickets to see Le Miserables for my first birthday together and it was major brownie points, I'd mentioned once that I'd love to see a musical in passing and he came up trumps on my birthday. Bless him, he even sat through it with me as well As for Christmas though, can't go wrong with big expensive jewelery (was that subtle?)

    Summer Ball 2008

I want to attend (with partner) but want to know which month you have in mind We're looking at the middle of October at the moment (which although isn't exactly summer hopefully it wont clash with too many people holidays and the weather will still be ok) Are you in a catch 22? Need firm numbers to provisionally book, but people wont confirm until they know when its happening? Exactly that! We don't need firm numbers yet just enough interest to take us up to the minimum numbers to make it cost effective (about 150 people) what are the basic costs and provisional timings, and location d

    Summer Ball 2008

Any more? It would be a real shame not to be able to get this off the ground but we'd need a few more numbers before we can go ahead & start making arrangements. Just to confirm what you con expect to be getting for your money: Day time activities (which could be anything along the lines of Human table football, quad biking, blind fold driving , archery, and so on) 3 course meal & wine at the table charity auction/raffle prizes Fun casino and evening activities and the most important thing is having a good time with friends and dancing/drinking the night away There's lo
