  1. Your SE sounds great in the video Stu. What do I need to do to get mine to give that nice low rumble. Are you using a Larini exhaust, or something else? Do you still have the cat? Mine is all stock. thanks, Ed
  2. Hey Stewart. Welcome aboard. If and when you find your S1 or other Esprit, you'll find lots of friendly advice and humorous commentary on this forum. You won't be in it alone. Like Ian says, it's the "in and out" that can make you feel like an old man . . . oh wait, I'm getting there. The perma-grin caused by Turbo thrust will keep you feeling young! And as Tony says, "get out there and buy one"! Ed
  3. Welcome to the forum Eric. I'm just a few hundred miles north of you. Love the pictures of your Stealth. I must admit, it's the nicest looking one I've seen. Very "bad" looking. Best wishes on your search for a nice Esprit. I can vouch for the fact that the turbo four is super fast. When you get into the throttle, i'ts hard to believe it's a four cylinder and I can't imagine wanting much more power unless you are going to be racing. But it's pounds to shed in my book, rather than messing with a near perfect engine. No mechanical problems yet for me. (fingers crossed) They are very rare up here. Enjoy the hunt, and keep us posted! Ed
  4. Thanks Katie. I watched the prelims. today. Looking forward to a good race tomorrow It's hard to fathom those engines turning 19,000 RPM, but with a really short stroke and a high state of tune, it's possible. And it's also hard to imagine McLaren being fined such an exorbitant amount. I realize the severity of their infraction, but holy cow!! There must be an inordinate amount of financial backing in F1 to be able to afford such penalties . . . Ed
  5. Very cool Colin. Never have seen that before. thanks, ED
  6. Wow! I don't go on-line for a day and I have to wade through 6 pages to be able to congratulate you Kimbers! A fine looking S4. You're gonna love it! Ed
  7. As others have said, it's great news! It's a pretty high profile car to go unnoticed for long. So glad to hear it has been recovered.
  8. A big welcome to you Jeff. Lots of good information and resources on these airwaves. A great group of gearheads ready to share knowledge and stories, at your fingertips! Best wishes to you and the gas tank repair. I hope all goes well. ED
  9. After reading the stories from Russ, Toby and Atie, my close call with two deer really pales by comparison. I'm glad to hear that you guys survived your experiences. I can't imagine what you went through Russ! I'd like to think that we really do have some kind of a guardian Angel Atie. Our time has not yet come . . . Play hard, but be safe. Any more stories out there . . . ?
  10. Nice looking watch Olaf. Good price! If it's a genuine Lotus, it should run a bit FAST!!!
  11. I don't get it. Does a dealership actually think you are going to sign the papers first . . . . then drive the car to see if you like it? What kind of dealer won't let you test drive a car if they know you are serious about getting one?!? I realize it's a Lotus, and yes they are expensive and rare, but come on . . . Maybe you need to head down there wearing the 3-piece suit blowing your nose and wiping your shoes with 100 dollar bills . . . . I wouldn't buy from that dealer. Try to find a nice Esprit from a private party if possible. Ed
  12. Welcome to Esprit ownership Elie! I can imagine how painfully long the wait is as you anticipate driving and enjoying the sheer beauty of these mechanical sculptures. You'll be smiling soon. Do send pictures when you get a chance. This forum is a great source for inspiration, laughs, and a very useful and helpful collaboration of minds. Ed from Oregon
  13. Welcome Brandon. You'll want one. Once you get the feel behind the wheel, and the turbo spools up, the grin will naturally appear. The problem is trying to keep your foot out of it, and trying to resume driving like the sedate, oblivious people that sometime surround us . . . Ed
  14. I thought that doing a 180 degree spin on a tight corner during track day with Porsches right behind me was scary, but last night really made me want to change my shorts. I decided to take the lotus out for a 15 minute ride as it had been a few weeks. The sun had just gone down and it was getting dark I just wanted to get it up to operating temperature, run through the gears, and feel that turbo surge pin me to the seat. I had a nice little cruise and was heading home. I was just letting it warm down, going about 35 MPH about 1/4 mile from my house, when out of the black a full grown doe runs right in front of me! I hit the brakes to avoid her and another one is following her heading right for my door! I just hung on waiting for the crash . . . . . . . . but nothing happened as I came to a stop in the middle of the road. The second deer must have jumped the car or made a quick cut to the rear of the Lotus, as I never saw it after that. This all happened in about two seconds. I can't believe I missed both of them. In pevious years, on two separtate occasions I have hit, and been hit by deer. They are plentiful in rural Oregon, and will just bolt onto a roadway and sometimes can't avoid the cars and trucks. I won't be taking the Lotus out at dusk or early morning for a while. That was too close for comfort . . . What is your scariest moment in your Esprit (or other car for that matter)? ED
  15. This is not that unusual, but a young lad working in a gas station said, "Wow, this is the first Lamborghini I've had come in here!"
  16. I agree. Many cars are not very appealing on a 2-dimensional surface, as seen through the lens, but are much nicer to the eye in person. As a photographer, I can tell you that some lenses compress space, some see pretty close to our human eye, and others expand and even distort. A couple of other variables other than the lens is the viewing angle, (not at eye level) and lighting. Sometimes a good photographer can capture an angle that actually enhances the beauty and sculpture of the car. And the lighting can be crucial too. But I agree. I subscribe to three automotive magazines, and many of the new cars don't appeal to me in pictures. But when I get out and have to ability to walk around it and put it all together in my head, they often times are much more pleasing. Ed
  17. As many have said before me, really sorry to hear about your accident. I did a similar 180 spin in my Esprit as it switched pavement to concrete on a corner. Fortunately I was on a track and hit nothing. Once they break loose in a corner, they are a real handful. Things happen very fast! Glad to hear that you and yours are Okay. You'll be good as new and back in the saddle in no time. Ed
  18. Hello David and welcome to the Esprit Forum, and possible Esprit ownership. I purchased my SE last January and have been very pleased with it. I checked it out for over three hours, looked over all of the repair and maintenance records, and questioned the owner in depth. I test drove the car and looked it over extensively looking for leaks, and anything that looked out of place. I was fortunate to find a very low mileage, (15,700 mi.) all original Esprit (with the exception of the wheels). Check out the LEW site and purchase a checklist and take someone knowledgable about Esprits, or a mechanic if possible. If you do spot some minor trouble areas, it's a starting place for negotiation on the price. They will all need some work, just don't get in over your head. Better to save up and start off with a car you can drive and enjoy, lest you want to be dumping a lot of money and/or time in it for repairs right off the start. Just curious what the asking price is, if you don't mind. Best wishes on your search and possible purchase. Ed
  19. Welcome aboard Mike. You'll find this forum to be very entertaining, informative, and helpful, (when things go wrong), but they never do, so don't worry about a thing, (just start putting a little cash away now). And yes, as other before me have said, She's a Beauty! The smile doesn't go away for a while . . . Ed
  20. Nice Choice Bibs! Love the color and the model! Hang on for dear life when your right foot goes down . . . Best wishes getting her back home. Ed
  21. I'm a little late to the party, as I've been out of town. Love the designs. I'll take two w/Stevens car design Bibs. Thanks for everyone's ideas and input. Ed
  22. Hi Dean. Welcome to the Forum. Best wishes on your search. Keep us posted on your journey to Esprit ownership. Ed
  23. Welcome aboard Rikki. Love the car! Great color and it looks like it's in pretty good shape. It amazing how timeless the design is. How many things look this good after almost twenty years? Ed
  24. Welcome Mark. Yes a fun site and a great think tank. Just curious . . . . does your wife visit this site . . . .? You may be the one sleeping in the garage, next to your 'other' sweetheart. Ed
  25. Like previously said, it's great to see that Lotus is still in the game, and even on the forefront with contracts in China. Thanks for keeping us in "the know" Kimbers. I never would have seen that article on my own. Ed
