  1. Thanks Art. Looks like you're doing quite the renovation to yours. You'll know every inch of it when you're done. And it will look like no other . . . Best wishes, Ed
  2. She's a beauty Julian! Best wishes to you and your love affair . . . . Ed
  3. Okay, just kidding . . . Let's try this again. In case it doesn't appear, its black and goes very FAST. It has tan leather, custom alloys, Spax adjustable shocks, a mild chip, and only 15,700 miles. The mileage will undoubtably change quickly once it warms up around here. And the smiles keep coming . . . Ed
  4. Here are a few photos of my new ride. It's still a bit cold with some ice patches on the roads, so I've only driven it a few miles. But, I'm getting a lot of enjoyment lust checking everything out and reading more and more about the maintenance and such. Heck, I enjoy just looking at it. What a piece of Art work. Ed
  5. Hey Paul, I just ordered struts from JAE. Long talk w/ Jeff proved to be very informative. Nice guy. My struts didn't lock and would only support the lid about 18". Tired of using my head as a prop! My gas gauge flutters rapidly from the current setting to pegged full, so it sounds like the sender needs cleaning as you described. Thanks for that advice. The PO did need the money as he is trying to buy a house, has one child and another on the way. Loved the car and cared for it well. Just other priorities, like family, to take care of. Nice fellow who was glad to see his car go to a good home. I do feel like I did well on the car, and plan to keep taking good care of it. I really feel fortunate to own such a beautiful supercar. I never thought it would be possible. A dream come true . . . I don't have the glass roof. No deflector that I know of. The interior is light saddle brown leather, with pretty plain door panels. thanks again for your feedback. Maybe we'll meet up some day, halfway. Ever been to Oregon? Pictures coming whenever I can get the car out. It's 22 degrees up here this a.m. BRRRRR! Ed
  6. Good one Wayne! LOL Find a nice one Adam. They are a beautiful rolling sculpture . . . Ed
  7. Great Article and reviews Alex. I don't agree with all of the points, but then again, who would. Nice to read other perspectives on such a great car. thanks, Ed
  8. Is this a case of the wife upset with the husband over the divorce and she's practically giving it away? It looks too good to be true. My wife would shoot me, but somebody should jump on this one. Check it out. Ed
  9. Timothy, Thanks for the website for Club Lotus NW. I had visited that site a couple of months ago. I just filled out the app. and sent the check this evening. May try to make the First February meeting in Portland, about an hour drive for me. Track days at PIR are of interest as well as just getting together for a cold draft and some good conversation, (as my wife calls it the secret handshake and decoder ring!) she is having fun at my expense . . . So it goes, Ed Bruce, Thanks for the tip on the struts. It doesn't look like I can order off of there website, so I'll give them a call and see if they can ship me a set. You guys are great! Thanks, Ed My wife need not look any farther than the garage to find me in the evenings . . . what an addict.
  10. Thanks guys. I know there will always be little things to repair and work on, but that is the half the fun of owning an exotic, as long as the wallet holds out . . . . It looks like I need new struts as the engine/trunk hatch won't stay up. That's a fair amount of weight. I think the're a bit tired. It's sure comforting to have a great group of enthusiast in my back pocket, who can give good advice and relate to the concerns or issues that we may have. Thanks for your support and kind words. Photos coming soon I hope.
  11. Hi Paul, Thanks for your input and insight on the '93 Lotus. Glad to see another one on the westcoast. There are so few '93's around. Any idea how many are still around? Were ther only 68 built, or were 68 US models? My door jamb says it was built in Nov. 1992, so I'm not sure if it's a crossover model . . . Well, ironically, I just bought the '93 Turbo Esprit SE that I have been researching yesterday, and will have pictures to post as soon as it stops raining up here, maybe June! I spent about three hours carefully looking the car over and test driving it. I have been tinkering with cars since I was a kid and am very interested in doing the same with this one. I have sone extensive reading on the tech site and I am fortunate that the previous owner spent the $150 for the Lotus Service notes binder, a huge, 3-ring brick with all of the service, mechanical and wiring diagrams. I'm not sure why he bought it as he has numerous big dollar receipts for service he had done. Every little thing that would need attention, he dealt with, and has the records, and receipts to show it. He was not intersted in working on it. That's where we differ. To answer some of your questions, I'm not sure whether it's a 93 or a 93 1/2. It looks just like yours, right down to the color and the same wing, unlike the S4 wing. It has custom 17" polished aluminum alloys with lotus centercaps. However, the door panels are the plain door panels. The body is near perfect, the air and heat work great, (with big receipts for recent air-con service), all of the gauges work fine with the exception of the gas gauge, which intermittently flutters. (Not sure if it's the gauge or the sending unit.) The underside of the car is nearly impeccable. I don't mean the underside was recently washed or detailed, but free of all oil or grease, and no dents or dings. All hoses and the cam belt have been changed recently. No gasoline smell in the cabin. It definitely looks like a 15,000 mile car, with owner records and mileage statements. Three owners who cared for it and admired it's beauty, but drove it little. With a clean AutoCheck report, I had no choice but to buy it . . . . At least that was my happy conclusion. It is a beautiful car that runs out strong, idles smooth, and can't wait to be driven. If only it would stop raining . . . Take care, ED Hi Timothy, Wow, another Esprit in Oregon! I don't know if you the read my reply above, but I just purchased a '93, and I'm in Love all over again! I live just West of Salem near Dallas, about an hour from Portland. I was born and raised up there, so I know the area well. Tell about any other Esprit owners that you know and if you belong to the local Lotus club and such. I would be interested in getting together for a drive in the spring, or just to get together for a beer and look at the machinery. Thanks for responding. I feel that there are very few in the Northwest . . . . Ed
  12. Shade, I won't get a close look and drive until after the holidays for a variety of reasons. I'll let you know what I find out. Ed
  13. Thanks Ian, Regarding the '93 I am looking at, we have pretty much settled on a price over the phone of $22,500 U.S. which seems pretty reasonable to me. He was asking $26,900 originally. I really need to see and drive the car before I will put a deposit down. As far as the history goes, I'ts a three owner car. The first owner was a wealthy collector of exotics, and this was one of many cars in his stable. He only had it a couple of years and put 2000+ miles on it. The second owner drove it more and had a couple of modifications and service done. He added a Valentine one, aftermarket alloy wheels, blow off valve for the turbo, new timing belt, etc. The third and present owner says the car has always been garaged and covered when not in use. He always uses a sunshade when parked as did the previous owner. He has added a 'chip' for better drivability, not performance, had a brake accumulater repaied or replaced, and has recently had the A/C serviced. It was just checked out by his mechanic and everything works as it should. He claims there are no leaks or drips whatsoever. (kind of unusual for this I would expect. My Tr4 and Stag both leak a bit . . .) So, I'm excited to see if it truly is a good as it sounds, or if there are any demons lurking in the shadows. I am prepared to invest a little money in it if there are a few repairs down the road. There always is with any used car. Thanks for inquiring. Let me know what you think. Ed
  14. Hello all, I just registered for this forum and am excited about the prospects of talking to Esprit owners. I currently reside in Oregon. I have been a British car lover for many years, and own a '72 Triumph Stag, and 1965 TR4 mostly restored. I have always loved the Lotus racing history and the Esprit has been on my list of cars to own for some time. I've found a beautiful 1993 Esprit with less than 20,000 miles on it that I am considering purchasing. I have read almost every article I can get my hands on regarding the Esprit, past and present, but could still use some advice from you, current owners, about what to look for in a good used Esprit. Please give me a response if you have any pointers and advice. I have seen pictures of the Esprit, talked with the owner and the lotus mechanic, and it checks out clean with Carfax. All looks and sounds good so far. But I am looking forward to a thorough inspection and drive in the near future. I hope it all checks out. Thanks for your time and help. Ed
