  2. My '97 is running eye-wateringly rich. I don't mind too much - I didn't buy the car for its fuel economy. But it does make it hard to start. I am wondering if these are common issues with common fixes. If not, I'll try to find some reference material, but maybe you more experiences owners will say "oh, yeah - adjust this replace that. Quite common on these cars." Here's my list: P0172 System Too Rich Bank 1 P1301 No description available P0175 System Too Rich Bank 2 P0141 O2 Sensor Heater Circuit Bank 1 Sensor 2 P0133 O2 Sensor Circuit Slow Response Bank 1 Sensor 1 P0161 O2 Sensor Heater Circuit Bank 2 Sensor 2
  3. I may not be a contender for the top prize, but I at least want to be a credible entrant. My ‘97 V8 is entered in this event on Saturday, 20 July. The competition is always quite stiff. Here’s my progress so far. Little things take so much time. The windscreen reservoir had the original (!) fluid in it. It was quite spoilt and the bottle was dirty and showed the unattractive ecosystem that had formed inside. Two hours to empty the bottle, clean it inside and out, then install fresh fluid. And I really don’t have that kind of time on my hands ...

  5. Definitely. Very cool binding on body, neck, and headstock including the trapezoids. Custom, Gold Top, natural back. Really high gain pickups, a pleasure to play.

  7. Alpine CDA-7832 in my 1997. The manual also refers to the Alpine CDA-7930. i hope this helps.

  10. Yes, by experimentation it is clear that the TPS plays with the start circuit. What’s the correct strategy? Foot completely off the throttle leads to long cranking, but if that is correct I will learn to live with it.
  11. Obviously better than the “no start” threads, but annoying (actually embarrassing) nonetheless. I experience lots of cranking before the engine fires, and very sensitive to throttle position. Unusual in my experience of FI systems. Is it a characteristic of this car, or shall I start some diagnostics?
  12. @Barrykearley what brand and color dye did you use for the leather? I think your interior is the same color as in my 97 and I have a couple of spots to touch up.

  14. Wow. That front engine black car is intriguing; I’ll look it up! In the meantime I think I will consider alternate colors. In a red car the red engine trim is nice, but I’ll explore the possibility of something a little more exotic. High-polish silver or light gray with black or red logos is appealing ....
  15. Maddy, @Blackngolds3turbo I see you made your top sides silver. Is that factory to match the body or custom color selection? (I am such a newby!) I have been assuming all the engines were red from the factory.
  16. Excellent advice, thank you to all. So - I will look for gasket set B910E9246W which should have all I need plus two head baskets that I don’t need. And no media blasting. Good thought. I will hand-strip and then high-temp paint or powder coat. I am so tempted to do something exotic - color change or polished metal or somesuch, but think I am better advised to stay as close to factory as possible.

  18. I’m working on cleaning up a few details that have been let go while the car was in extended storage. I was pleased to make Steve V8’s acquiantence and he will be supplying some of the carpets - you can see UV dry-rot has taken a toll on the edge bindings. (If expert-level Forum members can instruct me on how to hyper-link to Steve’s page, that would be appreciated by both of us, I’m sure). The photo is before I started the process; the red body work has cleaned up nicely, as has the black plastic on the engine cover and access panels. The top of the engine, however, is a bit of an embarrassment. It is dirty and faded beyond reclamation and I think it needs a fresh coat. What guidance have you for me? Should I get out the sockets and start removing the top end? BTW - It’s been suggested to me that I blog my project and I think I’ll do that eventually. For now my efforts and progress are small to merit inconveniencing the few electrons in cyberspace that my little projects are worth.

  20. Jake, thanks for the JMA reference! I have found and ordered some blanks. With a little more research I hope to find some more information on the Opel application to aid the locksmith in cutting the key.
  21. Stuart, to be clear - you are looking for a manual for the ‘02? I will definitely add to the search and get one if it comes up!
  22. I definitely have set up a repeating search on eBay and similar site, but I think I will try to find a way to do so on eBay UK also (my search is on the US site). If anyone can tell me the year/make/model of a vehicle that uses the same blank I should be able to look it up in the locksmith shop manual to order a blank. The key cutters seem to be computer-driven, so the blank can’t be cut without knowing a representative year/make/model either. Of course, production numbers (and import numbers) were so small that the blank manufacturers here don’t list Lotus for 1997.
