    S4S info

Hi - new to the Esprit side of this forum. Does anyone know anything about the above car? Thanks in advance.
  3. Good to see you too, a good day out all in all, apart from the rain. Nice to see the Essex Esprit take a prize home too...........
  4. My manual Daytona Blue SR S will be part of the Stonor Park Supercar Sunday display, this coming Sunday (4th July), in Henley Come and say hello if you are there, as I'll be there from 10am (opens at 11) until past 5pm so, even with all those lovely cars to look at, I'll be glad of the company! I know other Lotus' will be there, with plenty of other exotica, I should imagine I will positioned at the back behind a tree, next to the loos!
  5. Thanks, he had actually serviced my car the year before I bought it, however I live in SE England, perhaps the geography and mine being done only in 2019, explain such a large differential?
  6. I'd love to know which independent quoted you that/did that for you, mine was the best part of £4k with a few other bits at the same time, from a very reputable (on here and elsewhere) independent. Although that was for a 400 clutch and flywheel into my S SR.
  7. I flew to Aberdeen from London and drove mine home all the way to Berkshire, 550 miles and over 11 hours, as they closed the M6 with me on it! I got home in the small hours of the morning and was ready to turn round a go back again, just for the drive. Definitely drive it.
  8. I think I've found the answer on another forum: Lotus engineer: “we’ll use a Toyota engine because they’re reliable” Lotus ceo: “yeah but people expect exotics to be quirky” Lotus engineer: “oh yeah, dont worry about that, we got it covered.” Lotus Ceo: “we do?” Lotus engineer: “totaly, we’ve hired a tribe in the Amazon to design and build the wiring harness in the car, and we’ve hired an Italian appliance repair shop to build the window regulators” Lotus CEO: “they know how to do that!?” Lotus Engineer: “they’ll figure it out...that should give us plenty of quirks” Lotus Ceo: “good job”
  9. Just bumping this thread to see if anyone has any further information, I'm going to need a window regulator shortly...…….
  10. I'd be interested to know in the cost of the window regulator @Smapmap as I'm going to need one myself at the service/MOT in a couple of weeks.
  11. On a not unrelated point, and I'm not really sure this is something to be pleased about, but I had an average of 30.3 mpg in my S, on my Xmas Eve drive home from Reading to Essex, with Sport mode on all the way! 100 traffic free miles: M4, M25, A127, I didn't use cruise control and had the radio on but not the AC/heating. Soon ruined that when I go there though as my brother hadn't seen the car...…...

    A Year In

Re. the above comments and those on the warranty thread, hindsight is a wonderful thing, but I'd been looking for about 6 months for the right spec (SR, manual, S, one of a few colours etc.), this one came up privately and I got excited with money to burn! As one poster commented, I did set up a 'Lotus Account' for such future costs (as the clutch was on 30k miles when I bought it) which has obviously been immediately decimated and now rebuilt, so it doesn't feel quite like spending real money 🙂 @paranoidandroid On the insurance, I'm 41 but don't have a garage, wife is under 40 c.£600 a year was the best I could get in Reading, which is about what I expected but £300 for you sounds excellent! Be good to meet when it's not so biblical outside, I've never met an Evora owner in real life!

    A Year In

Also had mine a year, as of 6th Dec, although unlike the OP and @paranoidandroid I haven't exactly had no costs...…..from memory: - £120 - for a sensor change as sport mode wouldn't stay on - £1k - for new clutch slave and master cylinders with associated fluids - £4k - for new clutch and flywheel Currently experiencing engine management light issues with the code indicating bank 1 is running lean, so the above sum will grow in the new year as we throw parts at it to see what the problem may be, starting with the cheapest...…. Known costs when I bought it but also to add to the total are: 4 x MPS4S (c.£800), 2 x insurance policies (£1.2k) and 2 x road tax (£1.1k). Expensive year but I still love it...……...
  14. Definitely fits the S, I think I have read it isn't suitable for the n/a but I have absolutely no technical knowledge about why that might be.
  15. Sorry to hear that @Brendonian, hope it is all resolved soon.
  16. Had mine (and the slave) replaced a few months ago, The Elise Shop supplied, they took a day to arrive I believe.
  17. By way of an update for those interested or those reading in the future with similar issues, I have had the car back a couple of weeks now, so all in all was without it for 3-4 weeks. The delay was two-fold, firstly my chap was on holiday for the first week and a bit, then sourcing a clutch was more tricky than he suspected but he found one in Holland. The 400 clutch was fitted, with the lighter flywheel and I'm pretty sure it is noticeable. I say pretty sure as for the period without it, I was driving a diesel A5 so remembering exactly what the Evora felt like was tricky. However, on a positive note I would say it does rev up and down slightly quicker, on a less positive note I'm sure there are slight vibrations through the steering at idol which weren't there before and it is definitely much harder to pull away cleanly, especially from cold!
  18. @trcm I had about a month between the master cylinder (and slave cylinder for good measure) and the hydraulics being done and the clutch going, not sure if it is related. I can highly recommend Steve William Lotus in Maidenhead, it's where mine is now, came recommended to me and I've been very impressed to date.
  19. By way of an update from me, I'm having the 400 clutch fitted, lighter flywheel and all. The chap doing the work races them, so I trust his judgment and he says they (the 400 clutches) are more robust too. I really hope so...…... Will report back on how it all goes.
  20. Thanks @Brendonian, its the only race we'll be having over the next few weeks that is for sure! @122 I only bought the car in Dec and have only done a few thousand miles. Mainly local driving with a few longer trips on the motorway. No standing starts for sure, although there has been the odd dart in 2nd and 3rd gear when the opportunity arises, same as most people with these type of cars I guess. The person I bought it from was the owner from new, FLSH and has, had many Lotuses, used it as a daily for commuting, putting about 9k miles a year on it, so I can't believe it was abused. My indie said it just seems to be the luck of draw when they were installed at the factory. Whilst I was there, there was a chap there with a V8 Esprit who had spent £8k on a gearbox and said his Diablo clutch would last 10k if he was careful, so I don't feel so bad now...…...
  21. Sorry to jump on the thread but I'm now a member of the 'need a new clutch gang'. Mine went pop on Tuesday on my 2015 S SR after 35,000 miles. It is now in with my local indie, will be a week or so before he can start on it, no mention of parts issues, I had just assumed they had one/could get one. Thinks it's the friction plate. Interesting to see how much it will be.
  22. For those that may visit this thread in the future, it looks for now anyway, that it was the clutch master cylinder, the hydraulic fluid was black when bled. So, that was changed and as it is a clam off job, I had the mud flap brackets replaced at the same time. Also had the clutch slave cylinder replaced, just in case and the brake fluid. That plus a new badge on the front as the old one was a bit worse for wear and I'm down £1.1k, but at least it wasn't the clutch...….. 🙂
  23. Hopefully you are correct @Ledlights, would this explain how once the car got going the clutch pedal and all forward gears felt normal again?
  24. Wondering if the OP (or anyone else in the know) can shed any light on what the diagnosis was, as I have exactly the same symptoms, fine when engine off, won't go into reverse with it on. In addition, the clutch pedal has dropped about half way and there is little resistance. From reading other threads, I have pumped it back up to get pressure, but that hasn't solved the reverse issue. I've taken it into my Lotus man this afternoon, typically on the drive there the clutch pedal resolved itself (!) although reverse still an issue. I mentioned the threads I'd read about boiling the hydraulics and/or master cylinder, which it could still be. However, unfortunately, the last Evora clutch he had to replace showed the same intermittent systems mine is showing...…...I really, really hope it isn't the clutch - £4k apparently, car has only done 34,000 miles, and I've only done 3k of them.
  25. I agree with @Techyd, although I like the GT410's rears most of all.
