  1. Thanks @snowrx, this was one of the threads I did come across (minus images), but couldn't determine if one or two of these sandwiching the fibreglass would provide enough grip to get rescued from a gravel trap. A sudden jolt may just rip the front off the car??
  2. Been speaking to Paul @ LoT - they want a towing eye fitted !!! and that's the exact one i was looking at 🙂 here's a quoted passage .... "Its mandatory to have a towing eye, or another easy way of getting a rope around the car that is safe and secure. As example if you’re beached in gravel the circuit will need to pull the car out – normally with a Manitou but could also be something like a land rover at some circuits. If you don’t have a towing eye it could lead to a very lengthy delay so even if a circuit would let you run, most won’t, we wouldn’t as it wouldn’t be fare on everyone else. If there is somewhere else on the car that is quickly accessible should you be in deep then obviously that would be ok. Its not the same as gravel can go very deep and also makes it much more difficult to tow a car but if you were to break down (sorry) how would you have it towed, if it couldn’t roll?"
  3. So I have no idea of the real limits my car (1985 Turbo Esprit) will tolerate (more than me, I suspect 😉 ) I'd like to do my first trackday, but everone wants some form of towing hook/eye/ etc. as a pre-requisite which the car never had. How do I resolve this? I've seen a couple of threads for different cars - but it's not clear if the solutions would work for my car. I'm also going to post this on the Trackday forum for max exposure ..... Thanks in advance ...

  5. 20. Me and Caroline - + overnight too - Thanks @Dave Freeman and Megan
  6. Great to meet you all - rest of the trip was fab - especially under a glass roof 😉
  7. Self isolation = early out-of-peak-season early school hols. IMHO. What a sham!! A friend of mine who does physical therapy for kids did a session for one of her clients yesterday. After the session, she got a call saying the child had Covid. She now has to have a test AND self-isolate for 7 days, and lose all her income for her therapy work (as a self-employed person). I wonder if she had covid - how long before she was in court ??? She has now lost nearly £1000 for the sessions already booked for the next 8 days. Some people, eh?
  8. Doesn't Asbestos dust soak it all up rather nicely? 🤔
  9. I nearly got "reversed over" by a pickup in a little raural English village - "Sorry mate, never saw you in my mirrors" Yikes !! 0-40 mph in reverse gear = super quick 😉😇
  10. two things ..... 1. Fabricated and installed replacement (missing) heatshield for LHS tyre (first attempt at any of this) 2. Decided a name for the "Old Girl" - now to be known as Silver Greyhound
  11. Assuming it's the same as S3/Turbo - then it's simple .. 1. Remove engine side covering 2. You will see sender unit on top of tank. 3. Remove wiring (noting what goes where) 3. Undo 6 bolts and remove (will need some twisting) You will need a new cork gasket (from usual sources)prior to refitting - else it will leak
  12. Old girl passed her MoT today - albeit with running carb tuning to reduce HC from ~2800 ppm to below 1200 ppm. Great service from the MoT garage 👏 Such fab cars 😁. 🏎️
  13. Sooo funny - me too !! So I've just ordered a set of aviation snips to "apparently" create a heatshield for the LH wheel arch to protect the tyre, and I've also ordered some aluminium sheet for said purpose. Am I really making bird-drone-proof headwear, or just a heatshield to protect my beloved G-Car? Q: Are we not men? A: We are DEVO
  14. Aha !! Bingo !! Mea Culpa ! Cheers muchy @drdoom Images look fab- but what is this piece in the orginal parts line-up? I only see a rectangular piece which has 3-4 bolts to chassis, but this looks much more like what I need. May I have some pages missing from the parts manual?
  15. Wow - they're sooooo £££££ Perhaps I have some latent Yorkshire in me 😱
  16. Did try and look throughout TLF - obviously using wrong search words - 'cos missed anything/everything 😞 Will now promptly disappear down the TLF/YouTube-style rabbit hole a little further towards Earth's core
  17. I'm looking to put a (replacement) heatshield (mine's missing) on LH side to protect the tyre from exhaust pipe heat. I think the part is the Radius Arm heatshield C082E4091F on page 45.05A of the parts manual - is this correct? If it is, I can't see how this should mount to the chassis - so I was hoping someone could share an image of how this thing should? I have this image showing what appears to be fixing holes - but nothing matches the parts as listed Any help greatly appreciated
  18. I am looking to replace HT leads - any advice on where to get some from - usual places seem a little expensive (£40 + del + vat) - or am I just being mean?
  19. Ask Matt Hancock - he's also unhappy today 😍 - but not as unhappy as his Missus. 😡
  20. Maybe new variants will present themselves when they (the virues) need new hosts. Possibly, with such a large percentage of the Indian population (circa. 65%) aged between 15-64 years old, the Delta(India) variant has mutated to fit inside new, younger hosts. With this in mind, is it possible that this would increase infection rates - but not necessarily serious illness - amongst younger people acreoss the globe? As reported - those with at least 1 jab are much less susceptible to SERIOUS illness.
  21. @PhilW Did you find the 10A fuse location? I have passenger side lighter socket dead and have no idead where this in-line fuse is
  22. Does anyone think that scientists (Boris' learned team) are realted in any way to Pharma companies? vis-a-vis drug development/government pay-days. Getting paid as professors and Govt advisors. Sick. They must be kicking themselves now re: 20-yesr old flu jab - what a wasted opportunity.
  23. Definitley 10V DC regulated - as said above (for my S3/Turbo - 1985 MY) A similar sender unit may come from a Jaguar XJ, and a new float (if required) from a Mini Resistance values: are here - and I should note two things:- 1) Sender unit registers FULL when tanks are full and 2) Choke/low fuel registers on mine when aboout 1/4 full on bumpy ground around corners - so looks like it's all OK - happy days 🤗 ranges above were measured when sender was out of tank .... Good luck ....
  24. Oxygen of publicity ?
  25. Sounds fab - not me this time though 😞
