  1. I'd like to take the sender out of the tank and check it over - can someone point out how this is done - it looks like it should unscrew but I'm not sure ... Thanks
  2. Quick update - quite excited ! The engine build has started and I hope to go and see it in the next week or 2 . The engine builder is a chap I know from my days at Austin Rover (and spoke to this week for the first time in , probably ,25 years when we both built Westfields - my mate and I built 2 , he built a 3rd ) . The chassis is progressing and I'm still hoping I can start to get all the mechanical bits by the end of June . In the meantime I have found that @changes has over sanded the body and it is now 1/43rd scale What a lovely model I picked up off e bay - I had to use the phone camera to make out the edition number ( 33 ?) Will change the number plate to HLE 153T but the edition number is too difficult to modify.
  3. In Scotland on holiday that day I'm afraid .
  4. Fantastic to see those pictures - do you have any more info/pics ? Love the history bit
  5. I think the headlights must have been up when the bonnet was open ( or similar ) as the damage has been done by the bonnet hinges ? And to think , I thought all that would polish out
  6. Interior is off for retrim ( since Nov last year ). I've still got the gearbox and original engine but having a new engine , build should be started soon. Maybe.
  7. Body on the move ! I managed to move it from one side of the garage to another using a pump truck to lift the pallets it was resting on and positioned it under the car lift . The car lift was lowered as far as we could and then the body attached to it . The trailer was reversed under the body and the lift lowered it onto the trailer . So I've waved goodbye to it for a few months while @changes works his magic on it . I need to find some bits I couldn't lay my hands on immediately.... So apart for several boxes the Esprit is no longer in the garage. I hope to be able to get back onto the chassis build at the end of the month.
  8. Sorry Bibs , when you said “I’ve had mine for 5 months “ I thought you meant I pace 🤦🏻‍♀️ I have Octopus but the jag won’t do timed charging ... grrrr
  9. Bibs - how do you " fill up " so cheaply ? I can get 4p per Kwh from 12.30 - 4.30am but the(my ) Jag won't do timed charging , so typically it is 14p = £12/fill ( and the max I get is 232 miles ..... ) Mine is a 2019 car so maybe if yours is newer it has delayed charging ?
  10. We've had ev's for 7 years now - wife has had 2 off I3's and now has an E TRon. I've had an I pace for coming up to 2 years - brilliant car - will do standing starts in the pouring rain without troubling the traction control . Love the "one pedal " driving . Brakes are poor though. Especially initial response which can be very delayed . Handles really well for a big car . Just placed an order for a Taycan Cross Turismo to replace it . I will probably never want or have an ICE for daily driving again . Just ICE for the weekends, high days and holidays .
  11. Ah , I am on a staycation those dates in Scotland . Anyone at Shelsley to tomorrow ?
  12. Yet again no progress to report ,,,, although body is being collected next week . My dad was a serial radio fan and since he passed 2 years ago my mum has found around 70 radios ... I was up with her is Scotland last week and she was throwing a few things out and asked if I wanted this ? Oh yes , I said - it is the radio my dad bought to replace the standard one on his new 1983 VW Jetta . I'm now imagining that a 1979 Esprit owner may have done the same thing , so , if it still works , it will go into mine as I don't have an original .
  13. Engine mapping ( fuel if injection and ignition ) just needs an ecu doesn't it ? and a few feeds from throttle position , engine temp etc into the ECU ? CAN bus - what could possibly go wrong
  14. Very similar to ours - started with a 1700 xflow , built them in 1990 SE narrow body . Then changed to the C20 engine , 200bhp , 526kg .
  15. David Not committed , waiting for a cost . Mike's rally car has been fitted with it - in this case no switches required as can program the key pad as required . He's also doing an s3 . I'll wait and see , but costs with standing , can't see any downsides ??
  16. Paul We did the Westfield race series in 1992 (!) - we built 2 off SE's with live axles , raced and drove home from the circuits , then did hillclimbs . Red top Vauxhall - good engines but more power these days . Derek
  17. Great , I’ve booked for that one I think
  18. @barry - mutiplexing and CAN bus are 2 different things . With CAN bus you still have wires to every switch etc they just don't take the full current required for what they switch ( so effectively the CAN bus does the " relay " work ) . Is that correct ? The Lotusbits system includes a keypad that allows switching even if the switches fail . All hidden of course. @fridge - the ignition will be mapped ( ECU) , not the carbs - so you have more flexibilty than just what a distributor can do . I think .
  19. David I have to fit a new loom whatever I do as the original wasn't re-useable . My car will have mapped ignition with carbs , not sure that makes any difference . I think that wiring is fine normally but switches are probably the weak link - also things like the headlight etc stalks that take the full load of what they have to drive . I have negative experience of CAN bus - I have an e46 m3 that I jump started and then took it to 3 different experts to sort it out all the warning lights and the lack of any other lights ( indicators, brake lights , you name it ) . But as I have to have the car re-wired I'm interested.
  20. I'm gutted I missed this - just mot'd the S1 Elise after a covid rest . I've followed this so hope to join the next mtg . Anyone a member of the MAC ? They do a monthly Thursday evening event and also the breakfast club at The World Famous Shelsley Walsh . Some nice cars there .
  21. He's on with an s3 first I think so hopefully will debug it then ! I've not committed to it as I have no cost yet and am already close to " negative equity " on the project . I really can't be bothered with electrical issues . I already have a diva that I've taken to keeping an OBD reader in the boot of ..... and a 1933 Riley I rewired in my youth with all the same coloured wires
