He may be a hothead and maybe deserves some sort of sentence for taking the law into his own hands, despite what we may think but the stark contrast of the sentences is downright scandalous. No wonder there is so much crime given the lack of series consequences.

Classic dilemma. Do you protect your property or risk prison by going too far. Problem is, split decisions, in the heat of the moment can go either way when you are seeing red and your adrenaline is pumping.
