  1. Nice bit of road that Keeps you busy! Went for a quick drive around Coatesville this morning for the hell of it... Esprit's not as nimble as the Elise but at a relaxed pace, very enjoyable.
  2. Has been more than 10 years since I last drove my Esprit. Bit of a back-story. Sold it before I moved to NZ, bought it back 7 years ago, shipped it to Auckland and then life kinda got in the way. Water pump broke first time I started it, so threw a car cover on it and left it in a corner of the garage. Sat around for years until @GTK Soup series got me motivated to do something about it. Was left in very capable hands with the goal of recommissioning it, and navigating New Zealand's vinning, certification and registration process. Nowhere near as daunting and complicated as I thought. A fair amount of work was done to get the car sorted, but got the call yesterday to go to the liscencing department, part with some cash and get some number plates. Plates attached to the car this morning and road legal! Immediately followed by a three hour round trip out to Auckland's west coast and back. 70+ km of twisty country roads all the way there and another 70+ km back. Absolutely faultless - best drive I've ever had in all my years of ownership. Thought I'd share, few pics below.
  3. Very nice What are your plans for it? Half way there for another Bond clone Do like the wheels on it, they work very well as an alternative to the Wolfraces.
  4. My 84 Turbo has colour coded bumpers. I masked them up and sprayed them with satin black Plasti-Dip to see what they'd look like before committing to paint. Gratuitous piccy below Did those little corners in front of the door quarter panel and mirrors too. I much prefer this look, and getting them sprayed properly off the car in satin black. Waayyy easier than wrapping. I wouldn't consider Plasti-Dip to be a permanent or hard wearing solution, but cheap and easy to give it a go, and If you don't like it, it peels off in large sheets.
  5. I tidied mine up using a heavy duty peel and stick heat shield. Think I bought a 1m x 1.5m roll and had some left over. Looks pretty good in my opinion. Just be careful applying it - when it's stuck, it's stuck!
  6. Question about the fuel caps there Fabian - Are the early and later interchangeable? Not too keen on the locking ones, and looking at swapping mine for the earlier smooth ones.
  7. Thanks for confirming I'll let the windscreen guy get on with his bit, and I'll sort the trim myself at a later stage.
  8. Hi Folks - Getting my windscreen replaced and have ordered new windscreen trim in case the old gets mangled on removal. When replacing the windscreen, does the cant rail trim need to be removed and replaced too? Would rather order it now instead of discovering I need it and have to wait another three weeks or so for delivery. Anyone had a windscreen replaced recently and can advise?
  9. Well done on taking the plunge and getting her sorted I'm equally guilty - Mine's been sitting for more than 6 years. But..... Booked in on the 18th to a specialist to be recommissioned! I have come to the same conclusion, it's really gonna hurt the wallet - have no doubt about it, but looking forward to getting some enjoyment out of my Esprit again.
  10. That's the original steering wheel. They all look like that after a while (well mine did anyway). I prefer the one fitted to the S2 JPS, but hang on to the other one for originality's sake.
  11. Very nice Great colour choice and good on ya for rescuing the poor thing
  12. Yip - Used to paying over the odds to get anything shipped over here. Imagine how we laugh and laugh when I get a box of bits from SJ and the likes sent over Got your PM thanks - Have replied.
  13. I'd like a set too Please PM me some payment details and a bit extra for postage.
  14. Would love one too, but the shipping on that would be hilarious
  15. Look like Work Wheels VSXX's to me. Had a set on an MR2. Was thinking of same thing for my Esprit, but now I'm not so sure...
  16. Fantastic stuff George! Better content and production value than some of the tripe served up by Discovery channel in my opinion. If I was a corporate I'd be throwing some sponsorship your way. Unfortunately I'm a (poor-ish) self employed contractor. You have however, inspired me to get mine out from under it's cover this morning, push it outside and gave it it's first wash in three years. Started a list of things that need doing. Reckon I'll ease into it, pull the seats and start on the interior this weekend. Best of luck with your series, and will be following with interest
  17. How across the ditch and keeping an eye on TradeMe? http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/CategoryAttributeSearchResults.aspx?search=1&cid=268&rptpath=1-268-&sidebar=0&5=&14=&18=0&18=0&24=0&24=0&searchregion=100&54=Lotus esprit&searchbar=1&generalSearch_keypresses=18&generalSearch_suggested=0&generalSearch_suggestedCategory= They do pop up occasionally. I bought mine back again sight unseen a few years ago. Brave or dumb, dunno. Money will need to be spent regardless.
  18. I was pretty sure it was off a Jag XJ6. a bit of googling later and looks like I was close. Off a TR7/8 it seems. See here http://www.team.net/TR8/tr8cca/crossref/02_Data/Electrical.html Or google TR7 interior light - Rimmer Bros sell them
  19. A mate of a mate is one of the founding members of Weta. I'll see if I can out more. As far as the the Esprit goes, I don't think it would have been modified before Weta got hold of it, but will ask the previous owner when I get the opportunity.
  20. Thought I'd chip in on this thread. I was speaking to the previous owner of the Esprit featured in Ghost in the Shell a few weeks ago at the New Zealand Classic Car Show in Auckland. Turns out, he's the president of Club Lotus NZ and he sold his Esprit Turbo to Weta Workshop in Wellington. They built the car and all the props used in the movie. A large part of the movie was also shot in downtown Wellington. The previous owner has a stunning V8 Esprit and I spent a bit of time talking to him about it as I've just made some room in my garage and giving a V8 some thought. Hope this clears up the origin of the car somewhat.
  21. You're welcome Geert My day job is designing and producing motoring magazines, so I had most of the material on file. Recognizing typefaces and a quick search on brandsoftheworld.com came up with the rest. I use Adobe InDesign mostly (my Illustrator skills are very rusty), and traced and re-created the '5' as I couldn't find a close enough font after a quick search. If you want, PM me a hi-res photo of your Esprit 2.2 decal with some dimensions and I can redraw it for you. It's based on Eurostyle font, so easy enough to create. Cheers - Mark
  22. Here you go mate - had a bit of free time. See PDF attached Personally, I'd stay away from wraps, they don't have a comparable or good enough high gloss finish in my opinion. I found a Type 80 in BRG, and think your dark metallic green would look pretty good. Cheers - MarkT Type 79 Livery.pdf
  23. Hi Roland - Attached a screen grab from my Turbo Esprit / S3 service notes. I'm assuming S2 and S3 variants 'prior to 85' are the same? Hope this helps - MarkT
  24. Well done Jake and good luck with the car It'll take a wee while, but you'll get there!
