  1. A long shot (as no trouble codes) is the lambda sensor. When mine started to go faulty the ecu learned all sorts of wrong fuel codes, and wouldnt start from cold. Sounded just like yours. I disconnected the battery overnight to forget all the settings, reconnected and disconnected the lambda sensor. Then started it. Started first time. Worth a try and doesn't take long If it is this (fingers crossed although
  2. Its a long story and too long to go into here, but...... I'm in the middle of repairing / putting back on the road a 52V8 Esprit (as some of you already know) As the box is essentially the same as a non V8 box I have posted here as well. I know that I didn't always check the V8 forum. The gearbox was changed between the accident and it being written off by the insurance company. to a gearbox of no known origin (that I know of anyway) I was advised to check out the gearbox before driving, it by the previous owner. Well the gearbox is out (easier to do than the S4s), and the case split into two halves Well all teeth look ok (ie no chunks missing) The dog teeth are all there - none missing The synchro cones mmmm not sure how to check them !!! Bearings... do I have to split all the shafts down or can you tell be the feel? On the the crown wheel and pinion... No teeth are missing the tapered bearings and races seem shiny in places and duller in others. is this normal? If I turn the output shaft that is furthest from the crownwheel, it feels like something catching in the sun/planet wheels. Is this normal ? does it disappear when the tapered bearings are pre-loaded Everything else appears normal (but I am no way an expert in gearboxes!!!) What else do I need to check Can anyone answer my questions in the text? Thanks guys Glyn Still on target for completetion 1/3/2007 !! (I hope)

  4. Cant help there Chris, my windscreen was smashed and removed - I'm still yet to have it replaced Glyn
  5. Hi Chris What mileage was showing when the intermediate shaft bearings were replaced? Thanks Glyn
  6. I've only used PNM so far for parts so far, however Pete always technical questions very thoroughly and time spent on the phone / in person in never an issue. If ever I could not do a job myself, he would be my next choice He's also a good guy to deal with!! Glyn
  7. Hi Guys only just read this post- sorry I couldn't get Sanj's to work either, but I'm sure it was my fault.. I then started again using the schematic that I've attached as a word doc. This worked first time, but took a lot more time to build as its more complex. Glyn max_232_aldl_interface_with_pump_caps_info.doc
  8. Hi Bibs, Do you know how are these g/boxes being made available? I may need one !!! Glyn
  9. Hi Guys Happy Christmas thanks for your kind words.... its made me feel all warm inside!! I think my S4s is fantastic value for money, its just that its the wrong time of year or something. Since it was advertised I've only had one guy come and have a look, but he really wanted a black esprit with magnolia interior!! So I failed on both counts James, if you are interested come and take a look, (as its Christmas there will even be some change - lets call it Christmas spirit!!!). I am not desperate for the cash, and a deposit will hold it for you. Cheers Glyn
  10. I can picture it now........ just like the january sales used to be.... 100's queueing the night before, tents pitched, blowing a blizard - hey might even make the news..... Glyn I'm still a little confused and I've re-read the complete thread many times.... If I order on the pre-order email that will become available closer to the time, is this pre-order for the bits that are left after the sale days or to pre-allocate before the sale starts. I'm sure that I'm not the only one thinking this (I hope) Thanks
  11. I would like to think that, but its been on the market since september! Glyn
  12. Hi Jon Nope !! Where did you get that one from??? Do you want to buy it Must be the wrong time of the year (only had 1 viewing at the
  13. So normaly (before the double pole relay), when switching from dip to main beam, the outers go out and the inners come on? Mine must have already had the relay cos on main beam, all 4 have always lit.... FYI I've wired mine so that on dip, all 4 come on as well. This doesnt seem to make a great deal of difference, although apart from looking more inpressive, some cars do move over easier. With regard to the MOT, I know that my mod is only leagal between certain years and mine is outside of those, but my MOT guy didnt know (I actually asked him), and a few mates that are in the police (and traffic department) didnt know either. I've run like this for a year now and now problems. Glyn
  14. Hi Guys will someone just fill in the blanks for me here...... I thought on dip that the outer 2 came on and on main beam both the outers and inners came on. does this relay enable something different? Thanks Glyn
  15. Something else to add to the equation: new tyres say 8mm tread, old tyres 2mm tread. difference 6mm But diameter is decreased by 6 x 2mm = 12mm Circumference = pi x diameter so for each full revolution, the circumference could change by 36mm Thats got to add to a few % difference Glyn
  16. Check this post of mine. There is some stuff in there. http://www.glcforum.com/esprit/forums/inde...?showtopic=7326 I have ordered the Trust microphone, and downloaded the software. I used a Facom tension gauge for my S4s, and will compare the results from both when the mic arrives Glyn
  17. Hiya Ben Just seen your post I owned my S4s for 2 weeks and then had the box out for a new cluch. You are quite lucky, cos the clutch is much more expensive for the S4s!! The flywheel wears conically ie the inner diameter wears more than the outer diameter, and so normally does need skimming. Make sure that the step is put back in when it is reground. I also replaced the rear crank oil seal and driveshaft seals; and the sump and level plugs in the 'box'. Points to note that I can remember: The driveshafts are held by 2 x 2 roll pins. The drive shafts can be fitted in one of 2 ways, but the roll pins will only do in one way - check with a hand light - remember to drain the oil first (expensive - you may wnt to save it if its been changed recently) The gearbox can drop through the bottom and onto the floor - make sure your toes are out of the way, cos its heavy (i got a black big toe!!) Hope this helps Glyn pm me for my home number in case you get stuck if you want
  18. Hi guys one of the jobs that I'm not looking forward to (when resurrecting my V8) is to remove the offside (drivers side) steering rack track rod. (not just the track rod end) It was bent when she was in a salvage yard as it was towed by it. The towing resulted in the track rod end fracturing, but also bending the track rod slightly. I am hoping to remove the rod, and either have it rolled straight or find a scrapped rack that has a good track rod. But how do i remove the old one? This is a job for over Christmas, and I just want to find out what to do before I remove the gaitor and take a look. Thanks AGAIN!! Glyn
  19. I've just found this image on ebay for cambelts. The info on the belt is just the Lotus part number Does anyone have the length, size of teeth, profile and anything else I've forgotten? Thanks Glyn
  20. Just re-read the quote Freek, what size PITCHFORK do I need, 3 or 4 pronged !!! I guess you mean tuning fork, or is it an Americanism Does anyone have access to a cambelt for what is written on it? I called 'Gates' in the UK to find out details for the 4-pot version. Jeff at JAE quotes half the price for belts over in the UK !! Has anyone drawn up the crank alignment and cam alignment tools (4.2mm diameter)? Dave, thanks for the offer of the loan parts, but wherever possible I always like to buy - just in case!! Joey - Jeff says most folks just use a large socket!! Cheers Glyn
  21. Fantastic, thanks for that I will get one ordered. Cheers Glyn
  22. Thanks Freek Could you supply the 'Trust' microphone model numer? Thanks Glyn Hi Dave Just checked the sparkglug site I found it recommended BKR6EKC at 2.89+vat, and not the
