  1. I am going to make a new one anyway, the rust does not look good and bonding it in sounds like a good plan to me. makes for a better joint between the steel and grp then just the rivets. thanks, Rick
  2. no, I can't see it to add any stiffness as well but I am really wondering what the function is. can't believe it does't do anything at al.
  3. long small steel strip underneath the front lid, it is rusting away and I want to replace it with some new steel, is it there to help keep the lid curved? or can I remove it witout a problem and replace with a new one? thanks, Rick
  4. I seem to remember (from a long time ago) there is an maintenance/ overhaul file how to repair them, I am looking for it myself as I need to do work on them as well
  5. no luck today, did as I was told to do but no movement... full with wd40, will see tomorrow.
  6. thank you guys, new attempt tomorrow. I bought the car in 2011 in London, from a chap that owned it 1 year, I used it for a few weeks as too many things were wrong (brakes and steering) and my banks 62 needed al my time, a year later on a trip for work in the UK I met another former owner, he told me he had a nice surprice for me so when I showed up at his house he had the original sunroof bag and original wind deflctor. boy was I happy. btw I am thinking of making an grp mould from the sunroof so I can make an grp panel incase I break the glass (just to be safe)
  7. s3 my85, I have never removed the sunroof, can anybody tell me how to? I can move the pin 2-3 mm sideways and I presume there is a locking mechanism? but because there is no movement in the "blue" part I am not sure. thanks, rick
  8. my engine has not run in 7 years so I am going to pre-oil first, thanks for the tip to use the oil pressure switch as I was thinking to make an adaptor to the oil filter but this wil work as well , I am going to fil up an big air cylinder and put compressed air on the other side so oil will be forced under light pressure into the engine.
  9. my '85 s3 is in pieces right now, I've installed an corsa D colum/motor. it's just for slow speed (first/reverse) so I'll make an on/off swith on the first and revers gear stick position.
  10. will the HTD belt help in the jumping belt problem as well? or is this a tensioner only problem, I have seen an conversion kit to go from a spring loaded (auto adjuster) to a fixed tensioner?
  11. does it make any sense to replace my trapezoid pulleys on my 912 engine with HTD pulleys? I am in need for a belt change and I have the htd pulleys so if, then now is the best time for me to do it but only if it makes sense. thanks, Rick
  12. I used a big flat washer with a small hole (8mm) droped the rubber bush into some warm water, greased it up and used a long bolt to drag it through. don't use a too big a bolt (diameter) as the rubber expands inwards (using an m12 bolt will not leave room for the rubber, I used an m8 bolt and it was a walk in the park. good luck!
  13. I've been thinking about something bigger with a normal grinding stone as the dremmel stones wear very quickly, I have some 100mm stones to play with. maybe a cheap 115mm angle grinder with a solid bracket to connect to the tool post will do. but for holes a dremmel is a good way to do it. sometimes making tools is more fun than working on the lotus lol. ( I made my own lathe and mill, had so much fun doing this) rick
  14. oeps we are hijacking..... I have been thinking about a ad-on for the lathe to be able to grind down parts. something to think about this winter. thanks for the explanation! rick
  15. Buddsy, I've never seen the stainless ones for the toyota calipers! I went for the nissan calipers/peugeot disc setup (I needed new discs and an overhaul on the calipers anyway) I would love to know how you did the outside diameter on the pistons as I need 1 new piston for my spitfire that has the blmc princess setup, I have a mill and a lathe but just wondering on the tolerance and surface roughness. rick
  16. thanks, it is my banks europa r62 (a cross between an europa s2 and a type 62) did you get along with the calipers? if I remember correctly they have a small fixed brake line and a bracket
  17. looks like a very short secondary pipe, the lotus bits exhaust for the NA esprit does a very good job of adding mid range so why not go for one from them?
  18. business tip for BBS, start selling the paint in (at least) spray can's bet they will sell a lot of them
  19. lotus is not the only manufactor borrowing parts from others, was Triumph not part of BL around that time?
  20. they look very much like the triumph spitfire mk4 rear boot lid lock
  21. my '85 esprit has the celica calipers as well, they are 57mm in diameter, as long as the bleed niple is on top, why not?
  22. the wheel bolt pattern is the same (4x 3.75") they look identical to the spitfire rear brake disk but 1" so 8" seems to be correct
  23. in the 62 the lower half was vauxhall, the upper half lotus own head (that head became part of the 907 engine. the lotus 62 engine was called LV220 or LV240 (from Lotus Vauxhall 220/240 bhp) it was not a 907 engine, however it was the testbed for the 907 head.
  24. I would say Europa Enginering as well.
