  1. I don't like self tappers in thin GRP, I would use threaded insert instead or at least spire clips.

  3. I can't believe Mike at lotus bits has no 45E's around as he does conversions to throttle bodies as well. I too am going to convert to throttle bodies as it takes out the biggest fire risk in the car. (and makes the engine run better) however I am not ready yet so my 45's are not for sale at the moment. (I'll keep an eye out for you for some 45E's, does he need 1 or 2 ? )

Benjamin, the rack is not used on any ford (well maybe the capri perana) but parts can be used from the capri, however some capri racks have tapper bearings (better) the esprit rack is using needle (pinion shaft) and normal ball bearings (little bit more play) I milled my esprit rack to take the tapper bearings as this will eliminate any play in the axial direction from the pinion shaft. (from memory the capri pinion shaft is too long for the esprit but I have seen a picture of an perana with a shorter shaft btw escort shaft is too short and rack too narrow) I got my parts from a company in b'ham google "kiley & clinton" Rick

  6. I am about ready to drill the mounting holes for the disk, just wondering how much run out in the radial direction is ok? I have no cnc machine so the plan is to center the disk as good as possible (with an digital vernier) than clamp them together and drill the 6 holes from the back. thanks, rick

  8. in the ad they say that painting is very easy , he got an offer from a painter to do it for 1500 euro...., the whole interior can be done for 3500-4000 euro. think the seller is off track a bit
  9. This car doesn’t have an M.O.T but would see no reason why it wouldn’t pass straight away as is. so tell me why don't they do an m.o.t. on the car as I am willing to believe that it would make more money with an m.o.t. that without? please enlighten me.

  11. I have the austin princess calipers with gt6 disks on my spitfire, they are very heavy.
  12. the pre 85's are Girling calipers and the later one's are bendix, same calipers as renault 25/21/espace but with a bigger piston (from the matra bagheera and alpine A310 if my information is correct) ) used on the early stevens esprit as well on the outboard.

I am a bit surprised that the pre'85 esprit rear brakes have just 36mm pistons at the back as my '85 has 45mm at the back, (and single pot 57mm at the front) wondering what the pre'85 has at the front. there are some french cars around that have the handbrake on the front caliper and have a bigger piston diameter (like the BX has an 50mm piston. so maybe there is a better caliper around for the rear when upgrading the front.

    Pyrenees trip

    Castellane to Sainte-Croix-du-Verdon over the D952 is a very nice drive, the southern alps/verdon natural park is a nice place to drive and in between Grenoble and the south.

  19. 27Nm seems a lot to me for m7 (test on the bench with a m8 in steel and see how it "feels"....) is the aluminium already damaged? why not helicoil it, because of the bigger tread from the helicoil (or the like) you can put more torque on it
  20. so what is the strenght marking? an M8 in 8.8 has 25Nm but in 4.8 its only 13Nm. if it is wet (oil) reduce with 10% so 27Nm seems high for a M7 or is it 10.9? btw is the bolt going into a cast aluminium treath? and how deep? i

  22. no it is not, even on the capri there are different one's, apparently capri v6 rack's are beafier. if you look at the pinion shaft lenght you see they are different in lenght. (escort very short. capri very long, esprit somewhere in between) AND the escort rack is smaller /shorter
  23. Kevin, just google for a picture from a capri rack and a tr7 rack. don't think it is a tr7 rack, I used inner ball joint parts from a capri to repair my '85 esprit rack (nylon cup's and springs) is it a burman steering rack?
