  1. Customer Care told me August for dealer demo cars when I spoke to them earlier this week.  Couldn’t say when in August, but people on factory tours this week have seen cars in production and been told they are dealer demos, including several LHD ones.

    LOG41 in Sept in the US is publicising they will have Matt Windle and a fleet of Emiras available to drive.  I suspect those will go on to be the US dealer demo cars.

Time for another Sunday breakfast gathering for some of the finest bacon rolls around.  This is our regular third Sunday of the month event, a chance to gather with like-minded enthusiasts and a cross section of Lotus models.  Everyone welcome and we look forward to attendees from The Lotus Forums, SELOC, Lotus Drivers Club and Club Lotus.

    An informal gathering with no particular runs in or out organised, just a chance to chat, look at cars and take in the view.  Join from 9.00 when the café opens for bacon rolls.  We'll probably be around until 10.00/10.30.

  3. I’d previously been told by Lotus the regulation would not apply to the V6 due to timing of type approval, rather than date physically in showrooms.

    The i4 will likely need it, as separate type approval needed and not likely to be achieved until Q4 this year.

  4. I’m not an expert on these things.  If Lotus and AMG need an extra 6 months to get a 360hp version of the i4 into the Emira, then presumably it’s not as easy as people think.  I do know thermal management has been a significant factor.

    Lotus also want the tuning and changes to intake and exhaust to make it more “Lotus-like”.

It appears the email with the link to the Matt Windle video sent the week before Goodwood didn't go to a lot of people in the V6 FE queue who had already been advised of (original) delivery batches in June-Sept.  So quite a few on here, FB and other forums were still expecting (June moved to) July delivery and not been contacted.  Lotus also said at Goodwood they'd be contacting first batch (July now Sept/Oct/Nov) people in the week after Goodwood - that didn't happened either.  Some are being contacted this week, but not in deposit date or batch order.

    This stuff isn't difficult.  Just run a selection filter in the CRM system and send a template email to each batch.

    I'll be there.  Laser Blue S1 Exige driven by a short fat middle-aged chap with grey hair and an air of disappointment about his delayed Emira delivery :) 

    I'm staying at Oakhill, will be at the Friday BBQ, doing the Saturday Pootle run and Matlock route on Sunday.  Early brekkie at Oakhill on Sunday would be great if there's enough demand, but we've also got food at the Hassops Cafe stop.

  7. That makes sense.  They'll end up on there, either tagged to a dealer or assigned to HQ for national delivery.

    I've also heard there will be a central pool of demo cars, so for example if a dealer has a customer wanting to test drive an auto and their demo is manual then they can have an auto from the Hethel fleet temporarily.

  8. There have been a handful of people sounding out the market to either sell their car straight away (a few with changed circumstances rather than just flipping for a profit) or looking to buy one to jump the queue.  Some as high as £100k but most in the £90k range.

    If anyone is prepared to wait a few months, remember the UK dealer demo cars will remain owned by Lotus and they will rotate them after about 5-6 months and sell them.  I don't know if that'll be handled centrally, as part of this new direct model, or if they'll be offered to dealers to re-sell.  I know they'll be looking to price them around the market rate at the time, as they don't want to undermine values, so that may be above list if the market is hot.  If you see one that's in a spec you like then it might be worth expressing an interest to the dealer and/or Hethel.

  9. That's inconsistent with what they told me and others at Goodwood.  How annoying!

    Is there anything about your spec that they said was contributing to the delay or was it just being described as the same general delay that's affecting everyone?

Yes, it means add 6-8 weeks onto initial delivery month, so June + 6-8 weeks for you.  I'm not aware people were told when in June and I think at the time it was suggested probably second half, as dealer demos would be delivered in first half of June.  I'd asked about delivery in time for Goodwood FOS on 23rd and was told "maybe".

    I'm in the first 20-30 deposits and was told last week late July was a slim possibility but more likely early August.

    Wheels were a problem but apparently getting resolved now, so may be a minor influence on whether it's 6/7/8 weeks.

Stunning.  It's a proper Lotus mustard yellow.  It's solid not metallic but very difficult to tell that from 10 feet or more away.  Pictures taken with the car under the display canopy and/or with the grey skies on Thursday maybe don't show it as well as pictures from the other days when it was sunny.  I've added mine from Thursday in the pics thread linked below.  While we were driving over to the start line we had so many people looking, waving, taking pictures, giving us thumbs up.  It's very eye-catching!

    There should be 2-3 Emiras there, plus an Emira GT4.  One Eletre on the stand and one in Electric Avenue, a couple of Evijas as well.

    Emira V6, GT4 and Evija running up the hill each day - some in the Supercar Run and some in the timed shootout practice sessions.

    Well spotted.  And within a few hours Lotus PR had jumped in unprompted to explain themselves (and the member had been contacted by admins).  Apart from that, and despite repeated requests, there's been no direct Lotus contribution over there to fill the comms and info void Lotus decided to create.  Which is why there are 1100+ members, twice as many guests and 37,000 posts of mostly on topic and friendly discussion.

    The moderators over there and on here do a great job to keep things civilised, often behind the scenes and without people realising.  Thanks to everyone on here who helps with that, I know it's often a thankless job.

  15. Lotus have been saying since Jan that they were trying to find a way for people with early deliveries to get a chance to test drive before dealer demos arrive.  So I expect the focus will be the first 200-500 deposits, due to be delivered in first 2-3 months. 

    I was told 3 weeks ago that no one would have to commit until they had had a test drive, if they wanted one.

Nothing much more than that.  LDA were due to start from 22 June, which would have been slightly before dealers got their demo cars, suggesting they were getting either final validation cars or the first customer-build cars.  When calling people this week they've been saying production is being prioritised for dealer and customer cars, so the LDA cars won't be built until later.  

    The seems strange, as LDA could run with pre-production cars and with non-FE specs if cosmetic parts were missing or short supply.  And it's only 5-6 cars, so not a huge impact on numbers of customer cars they can build.

    The instructors being diverted to do customer test drives may be a bigger factor.

    On type approval, I'd heard one of the reasons for the previous 1 month delay was because they'd been asked to change something that was flagged up during TA.  That suggests it only needed the one item sorted and so by now either it has got approval or they just have to re-submit with the change having been done.

    Was that before or after yesterday's announcement?

    Lotus Driving Academy were contacting people yesterday who had sessions booked from 22 June to mid/late July and rescheduling them.  Delay to the LDA cars and the instructors are having to help with some sort of customer test drive programme.
