  1. Is it deffo in Grantham? If a gap at the front end of the list needs filling I could bring my S3 along but it's a 4 hour drive from my place according to Google Maps, so wrong car and a likely early start, can you put me down as first reserve.
  2. Got mine changed recently and as Bazza says it works fine and sounds just like the original. A word of caution, the chaps at Southern Carbs in Crawley said that the pump operates at a slightly higher pressure than the original, 2.4psi vs 3psi and on mine with the new pump I had a slight weep through the needle valves on the carbs with the ignition on but the engine not running. Turns out I had slight scoring on the needle valves and now they have been replaced (vitron tips) everything is fine. Might be worth checking the needle valves out on yours.
  3. I'll take up one of the spare spaces. Martyn I'll PM you with my booking reference. See you all on 6th!

    B8 RBD Red Elan

    That looks lovely!
  5. Hey Bibs, any progress on the date for the 2018 meeting?
  6. If its happening when you turn the blower on I'd suggest to start off with having a look at the blower motor assembly for something getting too warm
  7. I remember seeing this car at a Lotus Festival in Brands Hatch about 3-4 years ago just after the wrap had been applied. I think it's fair to say it divided opinion back then.
  8. I got the SJ manifold to fit OK eventually on mine but it did need a bit of persuasion. It's been fine for the last 18 months. I seem to remember that SJs did also offer a new cast manifold for about £200 more than their stainless one, I wonder if they still have them. Also last year at the Classic Car Show, LotusBits were showing an Excel engine and chassis on their stand with their stainless manifold fitted. The manifold looked very good, certainly better that the SJ one, and the guy I was chatting to said they offered a similar manifold for an N/A Esprit as well. As you are only up the road from me in Sandhurst I could bring mine over so you can see how the SJ one fits and sounds if you like.
  9. On mine I used one of those impact hex keys with a cheap electric version of those air guns, and they came off no problem. You really need to bash the hex key in fully before trying to undo them to avoid mashing over the bolt heads.
  10. I had a great day at the event, many thanks for setting it all up for us to attend. Really appreciated the free coffee and cakes in the drivers marquee. It was also an useful bolt hole to shelter from the sun!
  11. I think yours would have had the 0.86 : 1 relay pivot fitted. Have a look on the SJ Sportscars web site in the gear linkage section for your car, I think they'll have a photo of it.
  12. Bang on spec according to Gary.
  13. I've had a slight weep through the carb trumpet into the air box for a few months It only happened if the ignition was on, the pump primed and when the engine wasn't running. We though it was due to a suspect pressure sensor in the fuel pump which was promptly changed, but the weep was still there a few weeks later so replacement needle valves went in today The new valve has a Vitron tip while the old one was all brass, notice the witness mark on the old one, the cause of all my problems. The trademark blue gloves and the spanner bracelet in the photo below will give you a clue who swapped out the old valves for me, thanks mate!
  14. I think someone on here ? @Changes posted on how to do the timing belt and to set up verniers on these engines. If you search the forum you are bound to find it. I think the rule of thumb is if you only have to do the timing belt, do it in situ, if you have one or two other big jobs in the engine bay, the clutch for example, take it out.
  15. Ah found it, the button is hidden by all the white on my machine. This is what that corner of the display looks like when viewed using Chrome
  16. How do we access our messages?
  17. Hi Gavin I'm back from holiday now, have sent off the payment and have emailed the UPS label to the email address you sent. Thanks very much and sorry for the delay!
  18. I can't decide if I should do a table/wine bottle rack sideways or as mounted in the car. I'm also thinking it would be great as a rather OTT strawberry planter.
  19. As Bibs said very cool so yes please fro me as well!
  20. Or attractive bases for coffee tables!
  21. Nice set of photos, only the 28 years for me. Here's one of mine from the early 90s
  22. I've reported this as a fraudulent ad to EBay, this is Internet's old car which the real owner has been trying to sell at around £20k
