  1. Hi All, Does anyone have a recommended shipper, other than DHL/UPS/FedEx, to get two pallets/boxes of a finished interior door-to-door from the UK to USA? Thanks, Matt
  2. This place is like the Mafia...you don't get to leave. 👍
  3. No credit for turning you on to her? 😭
  4. The key is to neither sit nor stand, but to crotch...I mean crouch:
  5. Two “poll” questions: (1) what’s the best guitar you have relative to what it cost; and (2) what’s the weirdest guitar you have regardless of cost?
  6. The switches have a surprisingly huge effect. Specs: https://www.prsguitars.com/index.php/electrics/core/509_2019 Demo:
  7. I relate to "Price Really Sucks," but when you come across a PRS that's so versatile in tones, so light/comfortable/ergonomic, and so sexy that it's easy to decide to sell a few lesser axes in order to pay for it, then it doesn't suck nearly as much, and you can actually end up with more money than when you started. which is what happened to me. So I sold a Custom Shop Les Paul and a Grosh P-90 ElectraJet and ended up with a a PRS 509 "10-Top" in Blood Orange, and I don't regret selling the other axes for a second because this thing is so fantastic and versatile. It's my #1 go-to guitar.
  8. Speaking of multi-scale guitars, I picked up this amazing Yamamoto baritone acoustic last December in San Francisco while out there for the 20th anniversary memorial concert for my old pal Michael Hedges. Two hours after I picked it up I handed it to another pal, the great Andy McKee, who played it like he owned it and gave me a massive inferiority complex. Bastard. That’s master luthier/innovator Steve Klein on the left.
  9. Too late and too many to post, but this is my current favorite.
  10. Wow. Just show's you my level of ignorance. I thought all the dry sump '82 Turbos were Essex livery prototypes!
  11. I used to think Explorers, Firebirds, etc., were absurd, oversized things, but they're the most comfortable axes out there and consistently sound amazing. And that one is sweet. Real men play natural finish mahogany.
  12. Does that mean I can finally reveal the one-of-a-kind TRON Les Paul that Daniel Simon agreed to design for me? (Kidding. It's a Photoshop job.)
  13. Mark, Something psychic must be going on. Of the dozens of axes I've had, the only one I ever deeply regretted selling was my Gibson Skunk Baxter Firebird. I ended up missing it so much that I set up Google, eBay, and Reverb search filters for it in order to find another one. Then after several years of no hits, I just yesterday lost my patience, called an old college friend who used to work in PR for the Gibson Custom Shop and left him a voicemail asking if he might be able to point me in the right direction. Five minutes later I did an eBay search and BANG!...there was one, dead mint condition from a seller with 100% feedback and several thousand transactions. I'm swapping a few lesser axes for it, but I can't wait to get my hands on one of these things again...tomorrow! Psyched!!! - Matt P.S. That Explorer is stunning!
  14. I finally realized what The Manchurian Moscovian Candidate's cabinet appointments remind me of... And interesting that the guy who does the best skewering impression of the Donald is in the background of this photo...
  15. Beastiality?! Specialized police? Sounds like an episode of Black Mirror!
  16. "Democracy is the theory that the common people know what they want...and deserve to get it good and hard. As democracy is perfected, the office of president represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron."– H. L. Mencken
  17. I've shipped dozens. I usually go to my local guitar shop and ask for a few discarded shipping boxes (bigger than you think you'll need), then detune the guitar a 1/2 step, wrap the case in bubble foam (keeps it insulated from crazy temperature fluctuations), put it in the box and use heavy packing tape, and you're good to go.
  18. Speaking of a fellow New Yorker, this says it all for me...
  19. I have dined with The Frank, and in-person, he's about as mellow as they get...but not about The Donald! I think he'd like to light him on fire. Or run him over with his new modded ride, with sufficient downforce to send him flying down the canyon...like a lightweight cow-catcher.
  20. So I grew up in Queens County, one of the five boroughs of NYC. Queens has given birth to the likes of The Ramones, Run-D.M.C., Frank Profera...and The Donald. When I was a kid, I played touch football in the park with John Leguizamo (another Queens boy). I can guarantee you that if The Donald had ever showed up Jackson Heights -- not only the most the most ethnically and sexually diverse neighborhood in Queens, but in the entire USA -- that we would have beat the living snot out of his whining punk ass. He's the most un-tough tough guy this place has ever produced and a complete poser.
  21. I've never been sure why, but for years I had a visceral loathing for Firebirds. Then I played a Firebird V and realized what an idiot I was. It just felt great, sounded great, was great. Then Gibson did a limited run of the Jeff "Skunk" Baxter Firefird (an over-the-top Firebird VII). I played one and bought it on the spot. It was orange metallic with black frosted hardware, flawless banjo tuner that never went out of tune, and a Lyre Vibrola that was the best feeling and most responsive trem bridge I'd ever played. It had on/off switches for each pickup as well as on/off switches for coil tapping each pickup, so the range of tones was vast. It was just plain sexy in every way, and the neck was to die for... And then I got in a bind and had to sell it. The single worst, stupidest guitar sale I've ever made. In retrospect there are several other guitars I should have sold instead. I've had a Google Alert out for one of these for about a year and a half without a single bell going off. So I'm thinking of getting a beat up VII, having the Duncan Custom shop make a set of "Seymourized" Mini-Humbuckers (Alnico V, high output, and a lot of grind) wired for coil-tapping, and wired for all te missing pickup selection options this dude has... ...route it out, refinish it something sexy, and rewire it. Any thoughts?)
  22. Alec Baldwin is priceless..."It's pronounced 'Gina'!"
  23. This wouldn't be so hilarious if it weren't so dead-on in its general gutting:
