  3. A great move by Lotus IMO - There is a lack of awareness and significance of Lotus given the timespan for the current generation to recognise Lotus of old and the amazing history in F1. One of my sons works on future model for Aston Martin - he has been immersed in Lotus 'folklore' by me so naturally aware of the past given my Esprit has been with me for longer than he has. Reckons the word at AM is a nod of acknowledgment from a sleeping great. I've seen the posts about Chapman not approving due to weight etc. but I don't think Colin could ever had foreseen where the Car industry would be going and the sudden leap in to battery technology we are seeing. Yes the idea was there but until Tesla came along the thought of a battery vehicle to the 60's/70's generation was a Milk Float.............

  8. Yes the work on the slammed cars is amazing but the look is too far for me on those. The lower the more exotic but there is a limit
  9. Not knocking anything Mark - its your car and it still looks great mate. Bigger wheels always look superb especially with a lower ride (although there can be a limit for me!) And that colour is fantastic. There is also something so period and correct about velour interiors especially in chocolate/brown. I used to love it when they called it Tobacco - conjured up all sorts of images of wealthy magnates - suppose its not exactly PC now - keep going and best of luck with it!

As per the Classic Team Lotus recent post on FB - Great to see the Belgravia Concours – the beautiful Turbo Lotus Esprit of Peter Boita won the ‘Most Original Car’ award, from a field of 200 cars. A really impressive achievement. The Belgravia Concours is a prestigious classic car event that is held annually in the lush five acre gardens of Belgrave Square in the heart of London. I thought I recognised the car with those white wheel and louvres - its the one featured in Jeremy Walton's Esprit Complete Story Book............ - just found my copy to check! Glad to see its still around and so very nice!

  16. Found a couple of interesting ones on Twitter - Thieme's Cessna Citation 500 - and - I think we mentioned about this a while ago but this thread has been going so long I can;t remember! British GP and Brands 1980 - not quite Essex but this is the Red Arrows Display that (I think?) blew off the cover on the Essex hospitality bus............ and probably Mr Thieme's Panama Hat! - they would never get away with that now!

Roy if you look back to Page 6 on this thread you will some info about the LHD Essex cars registered to Essex Petroleum - Essex Motorsport took delivery of Export Essex's (LHD) numbers 002 and 007 - the latter believed to be Thiemes own personal car and still thought to be in his possession somewhere locked away in Paris - so that Essex is one of those two - Chassis SCCFC20A0AHH10302 (LHD - 002) or SCCFC20A0AHH10303 (LHD - 007).

  22. Awesome photo Bazza Stephen - No.017 will be in the Coys Auction at Blenheim Palace later this month. The photo you posted shows the car being driven by the journalist Martin Buckley.   23. Wasn't the proposal for the Esprit originally planned to be a V8 of some sort anyway? Any Esprit will cost you money - ultimately for me the debate is what pleases you most aesthetically, emotionally and gives you the performance and automotive passion you are looking for. I still say this to me is the best car they ever built - probably not from a mechanical or reliability point of view and certainly not for performance but its just looks soooooo ...........ace! Period colour inside and out - great wheels - pure wedge - the name - the fact we were still at the front of the grid in F1 at the time................. never been bettered.

  25. Just found some old images of my HC Turbo along with Essex No.017 - IIRC this was at the Shuttleworth Collection down near Bedford - early/mid-90's............................. The first and the last of the G Turbo's......
