Hi Clive, i worked at Opel and was at the fateful meeting where Saab -Dave Herman - presented the 9-3 proposal based in the J2900 that clarkson mentions in his piece in Saab - I talked him and Wilman through it. Still got the acetates showing the bill of materials and how much they changed it. It was an unbelievable meeting. Then came back to vauxhall and helped them (Jonathan Nash, David Pugh, Paul Adler etc etc..) try and keep things going . Such a shame as vx needed Saab as it's premium partner but the relationship was soured from that moment in. Saab wanted GMs cash backing and GM wanted to milk the brand off a combined BOM. Pity really I loved my 99turbo !

  3. Happy birthday.  Silly Question if you dont mind. Should the dip beam on my Elan be the outer lamps and not the inners as mine are working.

      Thanks for Birthday wishes.

Yes. Dip beam is (or 'should be' in your case) outer lamps. Main beam is inner pair and joins in with dip. (I have seen them wired to switch from outer to inner, turning off dip when on main)

Yes i thought that how it was. It took me two hours to sort out. It came with 12 months MOT? !!! It also runs cold so i think or hope it's just a thermostat problem. It will be at the club night all being well.

      I've fitted this 89°C thermostat - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VAUXHALL-ASTRA-1-7-DTI-16V-1-7-CDTI-16V-00-10-Replacement-Thermostat-/400593866420

Astra also has vertically mounted this 'stat so has 'jiggle pin' that prevents airlocks forming. Eclat had different thermostats for various regions of the world but M100 Elan only has the low set suitable for California but useless if you need a heater for a  UK winter.

Make sure you fit the 'jiggle pin' uppermost / at 12 o'clock..

Only a quick spin out yesterday, but initially with speeds up to 50mph it was a definite improvement.
