Nick Heidfled Interview - "Let's keep the momentum going..."

The launch of Lotus' 2010 Formula 1car is expected to take place in London. The new Malaysian-backed outfit, based in Norfolk (UK), announced via team boss Tony Fernandes' Twitter page last week that the seater seater will be unveiled on February 12. <div style="text-align: justify;" />The Lotus Elise MK 2 has come 2nd in the Autocar car of the decade as voted by Autocar readers. OK so its not first place but its not bad considering some of the competition the little Elise was up against, for instance the Elise beat the Bugatti Veyron and Nissan GT-R which both came joint 3rd. Plans recently un-vailed show that Lotus are developing a dual-clutch transmission. The plans, filed last October with the UK patent office, show the transmission will have eight speeds, seven forward speeds and one reverse. Apparently Lotus Cars submitted the plans but Lotus engineering will be responsible for the development of the lighter, compact and simpler transmission which follows the Lotus mantra of performance and handling through lightweight. The Lotus Exige S Type 72 celebrates the most successful F1 car of all time, the Lotus Type 72 Formula One car, which achieved 20 Grand Prix victories between 1970 and 1975. The Lotus Type 72 was driven by such Lotus greats as Jochen Rindt, Emerson Fittipaldi, Ronnie Peterson and Jacky Ickx and won three Formula One Constructors’ Championships (1970, 1972 and 1973) and two Drivers’ World Championships (the first being won by Jochen Rindt in 1970 and the second by Emerson Fittipaldi in 1972). Group Lotus is delighted to announce the appointment of Mr. Donato Coco as Director of Design for Group Lotus starting 04 January 2010. In this newly created role, Donato will lead all Lotus Design activities for Lotus Cars and Lotus Engineering. Head of Lotus Design, Russell Carr will continue to work on both Lotus products and third party design work, an area which is growing rapidly especially in the emerging Asian markets.
