Recommended Posts

Gday all

Back again ... too much time on my hands lol

Does anyone know where i can get a rear boot TONNEAU COVER .............as mine dont have one

It is a cheaper alternative than replacing the boot carpet

I have been quoted a few prices here in OZ ..... from trimmers PHEW .. They must have thought i had moneyy..seeing i have a Lotus !!!!!!!

Many Thanks

Hi Pomoz

Have a look here... http://www.glcforum.com/esprit/forums/inde...=3976&st=30

Our resident minature mechanic Troy was playing around with a cover idea a while back and looks pretty decent IMO...

had a go as well on my Turbo and right happy with the results -

Nice project for a weekend and worth a try... and should last longer than a zipped tonneau cover.

Cheers - Mark

Hi Paul,

SJ used my cover as a template to start remaking them. I'm going to replace mine at some point as it wsn't returned in the condition it left in. I'm going to get some quotes from a trimmer so I'll let you know what I come up with if you still need one. Might have to remind me though...

Hi Pete

I will need to get one at some point but to be perfectly honest I don't even know what they look like!! I don't think my wreck had one? If I remember I'll remind you but like you, I shall probably forget as well.

Cheers, Paul.

Hi,got mine from SJ too a few years back, had to add a few press studs to hold it taut, the trimmer told me it was good value for money as there is quite alot of work in it .

Cheers Paul

Gday all

Thanks for all the replies ...

Been raining around here..... so had a sober thought

...Rather than spending heaps of money on a Tonneau cover .....

That no doubt after it is bought..... you will HAVE to open it .. to get things out ...where as b4 ... one hardley ever went there .... apart from checking the engine each time prior going out .

Now where i am coming from :

... To get to the engine bay

. one has to UNCLIP the tonneau cover... to get the engine cover undone

. Hence .. a lot of wear and tear will be involved with the tonneau cover .... and the clip and paint work

... I can now see why many people havent got one..... previous PO's probably took them out !!!!

... A quick fix maybe ... and cheaper option

Go to a wrecker or Scrapper ( TO YOU POMS)..... and look for a cover of any model car that is a HATCH

version.

Buy one that will fit (Will be oblong) .... CUT it down to Gcar shape ..... paint it .... clip it.... maybe even with the strings attached .. so when you open the Gcars rear ... up she comes ... get to the boot .

It will be pretty light ...... AND CHEAP !!!

That is my ideas at the mo

Would like other thoughts on this...............

Many Thanks

so they use yours as a template, damage it, make money off it... the least they could do is bloody well give you a replacement in return.

Yup - you'd expect that at least... :realmad:

SJs have redone my boot bag with a new top cover at resonable price and it looks excellent...
