Hi. I've been contemplating an Evora purchase but also looking at lower end of the Exige market and ready to start viewing a cars.

Are any previous owners of this car on here or anyone have any thoughts on it or CR spec in general?

https://classifieds.seloc.org/ads/2016-lotus-exige-v6-club-racer/

Thanks,

Ed

In my eyes that looks cheap. And it looks like a lovely car. As the owner is not part exchanging I wonder just how low the PX value is. Must be circa £35,000. So if it checks out it is a bargain IMO

This car was at Newlands Corner last Sunday. It looked fab. Old or new owner?

Some buyers don't want CR spec, so it can limit the value of these but it seems a fair price.

That's @Malcolm Feth's car and knowing him, it'll be immaculate.

FYI. I went to view this car and tbh it was hard to fault and seems a good buy however I was on the fence re Exige and Evora and having now driven both and coming from a Caterham a fancy something a little less track focused/one dimensional so have decided Evora is the way forward..If anyone is considering it, ( and already knows an Exige is for them ), then it's deffo worth a look..

Hi and welcome @R400DVA - The Club Racer is a spec upgrade, it's mainly the same car so yup, the roof comes off all of them!

Thats great to know (i meant to clarify a bit more the exige 3 v6 club racer) I'm aware the sport v6 hard top roof can be taken off and you can put the soft top on which is something lotus aren't a fan of owners doing it themselves but I just wanted to not rule the club racer of my list of possible future purchases if the roof can be taken off for better weather days :)

Thanks

Only 29 Exige V6s for sale on PH yesterday. Great news.

Yeah not many for sale at all at mo. I suspect many holding off to spring to sell. I am looking for a 410 and have been for a while (Cancelled Emira that was due in Jan after a test drive) and hankering after an Exige again. Wish I had never sold my 380 a few years ago.

SW_Mike I sold this Exige to the guys at Exter, who I knew from Aston Martin Bristol when I used to have a Vantage. They are very nice chaps so thought I would post to help out with some of the background to the price... they may have already told you most of this 😉

Paint Protection Film (PPF); I haven't seen many Exiges with PPF, those that do have usually on have the front done with some clear bra. This car has 3/4 coverage, and includes the rear wind and end plates. I had Auto Protek (they do PPF for Rolls Royce and McLaren dealerships), apply Xpel Ultimate Plus which was the most expensive Xpel product as it is self healing! Anyway, that was just over £4,000.

I know what you mean about "reluctant to actually drive the thing for fear of damaging it", which is why I had the PPF done and I used to store the car in a climate control facility for 6 months of the year :)

In terms of options it had every option available, with the exception of the titanium exhaust, over £12k! Again I don't see any Exiges with everything.

The car has also the soft top conversion, also retaining the colour coded roof, again not all have this. I paid for the main dealer to do this rather than bodge it myself and paid over £1,000 for the work and soft top from Lotus.

The wheels were after market painted in Mars Gold at a cost of £750.

So it all starts to add up 🤪

Not all Exiges have the accent pack (pin strips and internal colour coding) which was another £3,600.

The car was featured in a couple of magazines and has a trophy from the Salon Prive concours 2021.

Finally the paint. This was from the Bond car in 'For you eyes only' driven by Roger Moore, and has been used on just a few cars since it was used for the Top Gear article in 2012 when they featured the newly launched Exige S recreating the Copper Fire / Mars Gold / Tan spec and driving to the Miramonti resort with skis on the back. I think Lotus Silverstone did a 350, there is Seb Delaney's 380 (but has black interior), Qatari customer also has a 380 (automatic and black interior), and I think there is also an Evora in the US. That's it.

Who knows if Lotus will use it again, I was hoping to get an Emira and Eletre in this spec to make a collection, but that isn't happening. The colour isn't available on request, and it is expensive because it is bespoke.

As a result this Exige 410 was over £100k 😲 I know that seems crazy but I love Lotus and my first toy car was a Lotus Type 72 (my grandfather used to work at the factory that made them in UK). I had the opportunity to arrange directly with the factory to get the paint, and do something unique and individual with the manufacturer I adore. I doubt I'll ever get such a chance again 😢

One final point of interest, I had never seen the colour in the flesh on any of the cars mentioned. So the first time I saw the colour was on the day I took deliver of the car. Could have been an expensive mistake 🤪 YOLO.

Hopefully that will excite someone passionate about Lotus to become the next owner, it's a great car and I've experienced so much positive feedback as people always come up to you to talk about the car 🤩

Good to read about the history of this fantastic car, thank you. It is absolutely mint and for a collector would undoubtedly be the jewel in the collection.

As a side note, my local dealer has stopped responding to my calls since I posted my comment on here, so I might have to go further afield to find a dealer that will take my money. Shame, as they currently have a lovely looking red 350 that ticks all my boxes.

I posted about it further up the thread. I was using it like a motorbike for occasional A to A journeys aka B road blasts.  It’s an ace car and great fun but I decided I ultimately wanted something more V8 GT for road trips with the other half, she loved driving the exige but not for long trips, so I traded it for a v8 f-type they had in for a while. I very nearly kept it as well but with a house move on the horizon i decided against that move for now.

send me a message if you want any info about my time with it. I’ve got some good photos of it that I took when i was going to sell it privately too

It certainly is! It's a beauty. May I ask why did you let it go?

Just felt the right time to sell. I didn't think I would get the Emira and/or Eletre in this spec. The market was on the turn. Mostly, though I had done everything I wanted to do in the car, with the exception of driving it through the Dolomites to the Miramonti hotel with skis on the back like James Bond in the film. I didn't replace the Exige with something else, I just didn't feel I needed to keep it any longer. I'll probably wait and see what else Lotus releases.

Hi all - I’m new to this forum having bought my 2015 exige in February this year, so apologies if this is the wrong place to put this thread. But I have been looking at exige listings for a good few years now, and feel that this automatic v6 is always for sale:

https://www.pistonheads.com/buy/listing/14829160

I know the auto just isn’t as appealing, but it seems to be in good condition and has a host of upgrades. Just wondering if anyone more experienced in the world of exiges knows why this still hasn’t sold?

cheers

The auto box wouldn't put me off if I were in the market, infact I'd have snapped this up if I were - I love the red and silver combo and 'touring' edge to an otherwise epic car.  What with all its mods, all I'd do is stick the GRP v4 lights on it and it's perfect!

(There's a little bit of paintwork damage to the side air intake in one of the pictures but seems rectifiable on the face of it)

I agree with @Techyd. I've looked at that car advert many times thinking it would be the perfect Exige for me to go along side my Evora. However, I have a VX220 already with the silver paint and red leather interior. But then, they'd be like Jekyl and Hyde in the garage :)

That looks like a cracking car and have always liked the non "spoilered" look of these. However, I think the IPS has put everyone off (nothing wrong with the box at all) and it would have to be a keeper as you won't be able to sell it on quickly, if at all - the current situation proves that.

However, to my eyes, it looks superb in that colour combo and non spoilered shape.

I came into this world screaming and covered in someone elses blood. I'll probably leave it in the same way.

The other way of looking at it is that you could buy it, REALLY enjoy it over 100,000 miles in 5 years, and then throw it away and all you'd lose is the equivalent in depreciation of a SUV in 3 years!

I'm not sure if I'm not talking myself into that car.........
