T3/T4 specs of Sport300?

Recommended Posts

Hello All,

I would like to upgrade the T3/T4 turbo of Sport300 to an ball bearing one(http://www.atpturbo.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Category_Code=GTB).

Does everyone know the specs of the turbo? I just know its turbine AR is 0.48, I have no idea what the compressor wheel trim and compressor AR are.

many go with a GT3071R.  Mine is .72AR.  If I upgraded again I would seriously consider Gen 2 GTX3071R.  But without other upgrades you will likely benefit only from reduced lag and maybe a second more of boost before air temp safety engages.  I'm no turbo expert though.

"Original" Garrett for 795 bucks?  RED FLAG!!!  You can buy the same junk on eBay for only 295 !

Look, the name plate is missing https://www.atpturbo.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=tp&Product_Code=GRT-TBO-K91&Category_Code=GTB

When in Beijing, I bought "genuine" Columbia River garments, even with "Made in USA" labels. Also,  Armani sun glasses for $2/piece.

Buy directly from Turbonetics, Borg Warner or Comp Turbo, and not the middle man peddling who knows what.

For 4cyl Esprit EFR6258-G map looks right on the money.

If you want to run a higher boost EFR6758-G is right for you

Transmission beware!

I gave up the idea of upgrade T3/T4 to ball bearing, I would like to buy G25-660 instead of EFR6258 or 6758.

I already rebuilt my s4s turbocharger and keep it as an original part, the shop charged me around 600EUR. They did a perfect job expect the price and no name plate on the compressor housing.

BTW, S4s turbo is better for the street use than S300, so you are already "upgraded"! Don't go back!

Can you explain that in more details, please?

Kind regards,

Jacques

Nobody does it better - than Lotus ;)

Jacques,

S300 turbine is larger (0.63A/R) and delivers a great kick at the top end. Because its higher inertia, spool up is delayed, thus lacking response at the low rpm band. Excellent for racing at the sustained high rpm.

Learning from S300 experience,  S4s (released later), had a smaller 0.48 A/R turbine cover. This turbo is more responsive at the lower rpm and delivers an immediate punch. Better for street use.

FYI my GT3071R   .72 AR with Alunox manifold generates boost starting a 3k and sustains 18 psi at 4k and that is with a lot of D and no PI in my boost control.  there is no lag.  a twinscroll option might increase the spool speed but I don't see the need.  But the stock ECU can't make use of the extra flow capacity of that turbo.  Something to consider

Also to consider if upgrading the turbo, the stock design is not ideal. It crosses the flow of the wastegate with that of the turbine. I'm switching to a turbo with a TD42 pattern. This allows a divorced downpipe that separates the flow; though this affects high rpm performance rather than spool.

You're right, that's the way to do it!  Originally, initially, Esprit prototype had wastegate bypass joining the exhaust further downstream. I have a picture somewhere in my 31K Esprit file. Some day, I'll find it...perhaps.

I found the picture, ha! It was taken by one of the Hethel personnel.

This is not prototype.

This is for the European market. No cat, so divorced exhaust and muffler as well.
