bwwooster 2
Greetings from California! Question: What do club racers use to tow their cars to the track in Europe? I've got to look for a new tow vehicle. We use pick'em up trucks over here in the States and I hate pickup trucks. I like passenger vans, but currently among new vehicles there are only two over here, the Ford Transit and the Mercedes Metris (Vito) which are rated to tow 5000 lbs. I figure the two cars I'd be towing (a BMW 2002 or a Morgan +4) would come in about 3500 lbs. including the trailer. I don't remember seeing a lot of pickup trucks over there-- so how do Miatas get to Cadwell? Thanks! MPx 267
Ignoring the high end stuff....most serious racers have vans like the Transit or Vito to carry the "workshop" and the car on a trailer or in a shuttle. Other than that, Europe has gone mad for SUVs (old school 4x4s in the UK) though most of the new ones are often only 2WD with all the towing power of a hairdryer. Towing weights are therefore the spec to check on and the kings of the road here are Land Rover's products (ignoring their questionable reliability). Most often Land Rover Discoverys sometimes Range Rover (either full fat or Sports). All of the big LandRovers have a 3.5 ton towing weight. 1 Quote Loving Lionel and Eleanor......missing Charlie and Sonny
