Oil Pressure Sender

Recommended Posts

G'day all,

Can someone confirm for me that the black pipe/line attached in the centre of the photo (behind what looks like the oil line for the turbocharger and to the right of the distributor) is indeed the oil pressure pickup point that heads off to the gauge in the dashboard?

If so, does anyone know if there is an off the shelf oil pressure sender of the electronic variety that I can use to replace the oil line?

Lotusfab has his plate accessible right now, maybe he can confirm the thread size of the hose fitting. If you're lucky a vendor will make a sender in that size. If not, a female to male adapter with appropriate threads will do the trick. I would guess the usual Lotus vendors would know the thread (I would guess 1/8" BSP or M10x1.0, but only a guess!!!!)

You would need to find a matching electric gauge though. Also senders tend to be quite large so might not be enough clearance with the turbo oil feed.

Worth looking into though, better than having the pipe break and engine oil ending up in the binnacle!

You can buy replica oil pressure gauges from Smiths. Looks the same as the original gauge, but takes an electrical sensor, instead of a pipe feeding oil pressure to the pressure gauge in the cockpit. I would go this route, having had an oil pressure pipe break behind my dash in my Ford Escort RS2000, and having scalding oil all over my feet.
