Popular Post mike_sekinger
Well some progress but no start: - car back-up on stands for 1st start - Coolant filled and with the help of the EWP, system bled without starting of engine. There is no thermostat, so the pump can circulate the coolant and move the air up to the bleed points Gear oil, PAS fluid and engine oil filled. EWP was showing a low battery, so purchased a new battery and charged overnight. Noticed a very small drip from the front chassis coolant pipe connection. Overnight it amounted to very little, but still enough to warrant action. Not so easy to get to but now tightened and dry. When removing B3 fuse and plugs for running-up the oil pressure, the new battery is showing low (crazy coincidence), so will be going back for a replacement. Everything else is ready to proceed but need a good battery to spin the engine on the starter. 6 1 Quote 1996 Esprit V8, 1998 Esprit V8 GT, 1999 Esprit S350 #002 (Esprit GT1 replica project), 1996 Esprit V8 GT1 (chassis 114-001), 1992 Lotus Omega (927E), 1999 Esprit V8SE, 1999 Esprit S350 #032, 1995 Esprit S4s, 1999 Esprit V8 GT (ex-5th Gear project), 1999 Esprit V8SE ('02 rear) 1999 S350 #002 Esprit GT1 replica

I`ve got to program the Shift ECU before she turns a wheel inside or out. The Motec engineer will also be coming out for some further optimisations, although there is no firm date for that. Rough plan for a test session at an runway sometime in September. Also hoping that the CNC uprights will arrive in September so that I can fit the final hardware line-up. 2 1 Quote 1996 Esprit V8, 1998 Esprit V8 GT, 1999 Esprit S350 #002 (Esprit GT1 replica project), 1996 Esprit V8 GT1 (chassis 114-001), 1992 Lotus Omega (927E), 1999 Esprit V8SE, 1999 Esprit S350 #032, 1995 Esprit S4s, 1999 Esprit V8 GT (ex-5th Gear project), 1999 Esprit V8SE ('02 rear) 1999 S350 #002 Esprit GT1 replica

Popular Post mike_sekinger
Todays funny incident. I have a carbon steering cowl that was produced to be in keeping with the other interior parts. Today I finally got around to connecting up the horn, which is a push button affair on the steering wheel due to the removable nature of the wheel. I connected up the horns and turned on the ignition - immediately the horns are blasting. Switch off and remove the steering cowl to check all of the connections. Test the horn while apart and all is working fine..... I`m confused. Then it dawned on me that the cowl being carbon is shorting the horn connections when screwed into the lower brackets which are connected to column ground... Plastic screws and isolating rubber washers and now we have a working horn. Probably not worth all of the trouble, but did make me smile at my initial stupidity. 2 3 Quote 1996 Esprit V8, 1998 Esprit V8 GT, 1999 Esprit S350 #002 (Esprit GT1 replica project), 1996 Esprit V8 GT1 (chassis 114-001), 1992 Lotus Omega (927E), 1999 Esprit V8SE, 1999 Esprit S350 #032, 1995 Esprit S4s, 1999 Esprit V8 GT (ex-5th Gear project), 1999 Esprit V8SE ('02 rear) 1999 S350 #002 Esprit GT1 replica

The way it revs is so appealing and it sounds great. Are these with stock exhaust manifolds or tubular ones? Sorry if this is all documented here, I haven't been back through the thread to check. cheers -Chris
mike_sekinger
Hi Chris, Of course it`s all detailed in the depths of the thread, but to summarise: - Forged pistons (incl. wrist pins and clips) are 4.5g heavier than a stock Grade A piston - Saenz rods are also marginally heavier, but I do not have the figure to hand. The Saenz rods are designed to cope with the stressed associated with much higher power levels. - Main weight savings are coming from the flywheel and clutch assy, where all together I am 5Kg lighter (500g on the flywheel and 4.5Kg on the clutch) The manifolds are currently ported cast ones mated to a pair of hybrid billet compressor turbos, which will be used for the first stage of the engine running. A pair of tubular manifolds are in fabrication for use with the BorgWarner EFR 6258 turbos, but that is a future enhancement that will require changes to the chargecoolers and induction routing. Those turbos can support sufficient flow for between 450 - 800bhp.
