arle
The engine of my elise stops randomly and starts again after a while. The Lotus dealer cannot find the problem. Main releais for the fuel pomp has been replaced, connectors to te fuelpump have been replaced, fuel pump has been replaced. When you drive the engine sometimes stops. after a while it starts again. Contact with lotus does not give the solution. they don’t know. when i bought the elise it was 1,5 years old and it had the same problem. they replaced the motor management systems and the problem dissapeared for two years. now it is back again. who knows more about this problem. I am spending a lot of money without a single result.

ramjet
Welcome to TLF Arle. I am not sure of the answer either Arle. A friend of mine had a Holden that occasionally stopped for no apparent reason. Eventually found to be a crack in the computer motherboard. It took a fair while for his service guy to find that as well. I take it when you say the motor management board, you are talking about the ECU? When the engine stops, is it in the rain? Engine hot or still warming up? Any other info may help someone on here to come up with an idea. Anyway, hope you can find what is causing it. You should duck over to the Introductions area and say hi in there as well. Quote All we know is that when they stop making this, we will be properly, properly sad.Jeremy Clarkson on the Esprit. arle
Hi ramjet, thx for welcoming me at TLF. The ECU could be the problem again. Its worth testing it.
ramjet
I would think that if it was the problem the first time, it would not be the fault the second time unless something else was damaging it? Are you getting any sort of CEL light and any sort of error code or anything when the stoppages occur? duncx
Hello. A few years ago I owned a nearly new Vauxhall VX220. It was a great car but to would regularly start hesitating and losing power on light throttle. Vauxhall tried everything (under warranty) to find the problem, they replaced the turbo, the ECU, sensors etc but this intermittent fault remained. It was almost a year before we discovered that there was a fault with a wiring loom - one single connector was badly made so most of the time it worked but occasionally it didn't! The fact that you have had the fault before and a new ECU cured it makes me wonder if you have a faulty connector somewhere? Fitting a new ECU could have disturbed it and made it connect properly for a while but now the problem is back! I am probably talking complete rubbish but you never know. Good luck
Saberfang
I have a similar issue with my S1. Basicly few weeks ago I was driving it like I do everyday when I noticed a louder than usual humming noise. After a few minutes the engine turn off. All the signs seemed to point at the fuel pump so I got a new one and changed it. Unfortunately a few days ago I ended up in the same situation with the new pump. The engine turned off and when I attempted of get it running again, it barely hold minimun and had almost no response with the gas pedal. That was the last time I was able to get it running. My mechanic checked the new pump which is perfectly working. The problem is that the spark plugs don't get electricity so the is some fault with the electric circuit. The problem is where...Any advice?
ramjet
Do the Elises have a crankshaft sensor on the crank to tell the plugs when to fire?
