I found something REALLY CLOSE to MARCASITE

Recommended Posts

Tony,

That looks like a fantastic job. My searches of the interweb have not been able to uncover a uk source for this material so any details you could provide would be fantastic.

My problem (I think) is that the interior trim was originally black but has faded in time to an emerald green - which I believe was common with the dyes used in the period - and I actually quite like the colour. This is more striking on the seats since the black velour has stayed black and the marcasite has faded to this emerald green so I could really do with finding a supplier of swatches...!

It's looking great, Tony! BTW, did you also find a good match for the oatmeal mouse fur seat and trim panel material paired with the brown marcasite interiors?

haha sure .. happy to take it for a spin across the Island ;)

Tony, if needed on my s2 all the chrome fixing clips are the same an an early escort mk1.  I bought a pack full off ebay .. Still haven't fit the chrome back on, but side by side they look identical :)

Hi, just catching up on interior restorations, and wondering what the latest consensus is on the best Macacite replacement?

Has anyone tried importing Crypton Suede into the UK from the adopted home of Superman?

I'm toying with either using upholsterer's velvet, or repairing the various tears in the original Macacite and dyeing it with Dylon Suede.

For me, the measure a replacement material is the way it follows the contours of the instrument binnacle without rucking. Most other areas being largely flat.

BTW regarding Nick Fulcher's comments above about there never been a black Macacite, the Lotus Archives confirm that the interior of my February 1978 S1 was indeed black. Certainly the non-faded areas of Marcasite appear black. Or at least extremely dark grey/anthracite. Splitting hairs?

I'd therefore be interested in hearing the thoughts from other S1 owners on their original "black" Marcasite interiors.

Cheers,

David Jinks.

I own a Eclat S1 from 77. The marcasite interior is still ok, but quite faded... so I want to solve this problem in the near future...

Is Crypton Suede now available in Europe? Does any coachbuilder work with that material now? Nick Fulcher was not very convinced by that...?

Regards Matt

hi Jon, where did you get it? Looks great!! Need it too for my S1 Eclat.

Regards Matthias

It's only available in the USA as far as I am aware  - you'll need to import it or have a buddy over there to get it to you.

Yoiks, Punky !! Looks like the makings of some drag queen's gown. Crushed velvet is what I'd call that.

Cheers😉
