Need Emergency Help!advice

Recommended Posts

Selling my 1988 Lotus and have someone looking at it this Sat - 6/16/07.

The hood release has malfunctioned to the engine compartment. - can not get back hood to open, does anyone know of access panels underneath Lotus to gain access to hood release mechanism? I think the cable has pulled out of the release.

Any help/advice appreciated !!

the cable is mounted behind the handle. You should be able to grab the wire with a pair of pliers if you lift the handle and use a pair of needle nose. If that doesn't work, then you can unbolt the handle and fish through the little hole in the firewall. If that doesn't work... you'll have to cut a hole behind the license plate and access the cables that way... Not a nice option.

Modifying esprit's.. now that's fun..

I have a 1988 Lotus Esprit Turbo for sale. Someone coming to look at it on Sat- 6/16/07.

I can not open the "boot" - the rear engine bay hood. I think the cable pulled out from the release mechanism. It is the driver side latch that is stuck. Is there a way to get into the boot - rear engine bay from underneath the Lotus - an access panel.

All help deeply appreciated !

Ok another way to gain access to the catch is to (you are not going to like this)smash the light lense ,push bulb holder out the way and stick hand through the aperture ,the toyota lenses are not too expenseive and it saves drilling a big hole behind your number plate...said you werent going to like it.....

Another way is to remove the lip that goes from the boot floor to the body work. This cut out lip was added to help get the gear box out.

Go underneath the car and you should be able to angle grind off the bolts holding it down.

Once removed you can get to the cables that way

This method offers the least damage. May need to drop the muffler as well but worth attempting first.
