Future of the Evora in the USA

Recommended Posts

Thank you Julian73 for explaining the why behind the Federal Evora GT. I did rather wonder when it appeared on FB. At first glance it does look like a 400 reversed into a 430, but I get it now. I think it looks pretty awesome. I’m kinda bummed out that we aren’t getting it here.

It's changed my life more than getting the car did.  I can honestly say that.  But truly, the Lotus was integral to the promise I made myself to get a bit fitter and more comfy in my own skin.  I star

Just arrived and picking it up tomorrow. Next up is GT 430 CF rear wing and CF front bumper.

I think you get a compulsory 2 day ban, and sit in a corner to consider your actions, for mentioning the b word.

Rear-Bumper Over-Riders

Because of the rear restyled carbon fibre rear bumper, rear bumper over-riders are fitted to meet Federal requirements.  2 polypropylene foam blocks, fitted into ABS plastic covers are bonded onto both sides of an aluminum bracket, which in turn is fixed into position onto the license plate area of the rear bumper.

Wow those look great!

Am curious about how much stuff gets thrown down the side of the car because of the scallops behind the front wheels.

I've been driving with the 430 A-panels for about a year now.  Its not bad except for road dirt right on the panel themselves.  Get PPF film installed.

Wowser. So you take those off and you have some lovely bracket holes in that carbon. Nice one

As stated...." bonded onto both sides of an aluminum bracket".   Here's a screen shot taken from the latest parts diagram.  I believe it will be a moot point.

Ah, that's very good news then so easy to remove without spoiling the carbon - unlike at the front where they just screw the licence plate holder into the carbon like they did on my 410 Sport - argh!!!

Oh come on, this execution of bowling gutter bumpers isn't as bad has some other companies have done on cars costing 10x more, in fact they show some attempt at style intergration.  What I find hard to believe is that there is anything structural behind the bumper in that spot.   *** Edit*** oh sweet, they are not bonded to the car body except through the license plate screws, Thank You Lotus Gods.

As to bicycle reflectors, actually that's what you guys get, we get active lighted reflectors.  It would be nice for Lotus to investigate the regulations, on my premium class Japanese sedan, the manufacture seemed to be able to get away with a dark smoked finish that hides colors etc when shone on or lights on.

It woulod be nice not to have to have them full stop. Then the wings would not need to be sculpted out for them. Bloody complete waste of time in my very humble opinion and a waste of natural resources. But hey, what the hell do I know anyways....

what exactly do they even do..?

@andyj007 they’re US mandated bumper stops that some cars are required to have for crash test regulations is my understanding. They’ve been doing this sort of thing for years. And to be honest, they really don’t look too bad on the GT compared to a lot of other cars. The DB11 and Chiron are two of the worst examples I’ve seen in recent memory. So we should be thankful Lotus at least made them look decent. Although I suspect, like me, most owners will remove theirs immediately since they’re easily removed. Thanks for that diagram Brian!

I'm beginning to think they are some form of new cupholder, heated air from the engine is used to keep the coffee warm. Just rules and regulations gone mad in a mad, mad world...

They are there to protect your license plate from those ugly dents when some other person reverses into your car with a tow ball on the back of their car.

Really though, when you look at the potentially illegal and non-tested modifications that people in the US can do once they own their car, these would have to be the ugliest, most worthless things I have seen.

Hang on, if a cyclist aims correctly, they might hit them. that would avert a far more dangerous outcome. Phew!

The ones on the Bugatti are big enough to be dinner plate warmers. We are WAY past cup holders on that.

All we know is that when they stop making this, we will be properly, properly sad.Jeremy Clarkson on the Esprit.

Opinions are like armpits. Everyone has them, some just stink more than others.

We don't have picnics in the US, we have tailgate parties before and during (American) football games and NASCAR races.  Those extended trays are to hold the beer coolers.

The Evora GT is not going to be a limited run model but Lotus will not aim for massive sales on it. In the US it will essentially be an end of life refresh until the Evora is replaced. The Evora GT will soldier on alongside next year new sport car that could be unveiled in the fourth quarter of this year. The "2020 sport car" is very likely to be an Evora based Exige type car, strict 2 seater coupe/roadster. it will have all the features that will allow it to go head to head with the Boxster/Cayman and should bring some of the Elise goodness.

The Evora GT is not going to receive the wing nor the front bumper due to NHTSA homologation. Lotus being still small, they decided against crashing half a dozen cars to export probably less than 1000 cars right?! The Evora GT is called GT410 Sport in the rest of the world and It will just take an ECU reflash to unlock the 430 bhp.

Who knows, that is just speculation. It could be a heavier/bigger version of the Evora but more refined to satisfy the fat bods of Americans that never fitted on the Elise, Exige and have trouble with the Evora.

Does this from the previous page not answer your question?

"As I've been told it is configured for US general market at 422 Hp US (same tune as UK 430 but with losses due to 3rd Cat) and 416 Hp for California CARB.  Dealer have all the pricing info on options/standard equipment, but suffice to say when price was dropped $21k some prior standard equipment became optional, for example I understand the carbon pack is now $10k  (for roof, front access hatch, rear hatch & differed surround).  I know this was standard equipment on my Sport 410 but then my base MSRP was $109k + delivery plus still an extra $17k in options, 2 years ago"

Do you realize that he is a US dealer and his post about the GT only addresses the 416bhp (CARB).

Before trashing people, due some research.  Rather than just certify all cars to the toughest CARB regulations, Lotus is offering the cars in two certified configurations, 416 and 422.  And that is from the same dealer source.  Now what that physically means?, if you have a 416 car and live outside of CARB regs (i.e. not in states of California, New York,Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New Mexico, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Washington, & DC.) can a 416 car easily be turned into a 422 car with a software change, or is hardware too?

My post was a question to a dealer that knows the exact info but I get a smart ass response from a arm chair Lotus insider.  I don't need to "do some research" when there is a dealer in this thread talking about it. To each its own dude, live and let live.

All this leaves me content with my nasty old 2017 400 that came with a $20K discount from list and a new car warranty.  What should I buy with the $40,000 I have left over?  I'm thinking Komotec tune, some personal track lessons and Type R for a daily.  Any other suggestions or have I got that about nailed?

Type R is a dud you say?  Well, at least I get my wing!

I hear you. Maybe consider it when the GT has the same $20k discount next year? hahaha

If you want technical/commercial info from a dealer, then message or even pick up the phone to said dealer, don't expect it to just be posted on a forum.  Now on the other hand if you ask a question on a forum, please expect answers, opinions, assumptions, conjectures, comments and/or snide remarks to be given back to you.
