Petrolgeneration's Metallic Grey 2019 Lotus Elise Cup 250 - Project Thread

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone.

Today I finally received the good news from my Lotus dealer: the VIN and delivery date. I figured, the Exige forums have dedicated build threads, why shouldn't the Elise owners be able to have one as this place is filled with enthousiasts driving and modifying the *bleep* out of their cars. I've always been a big Lotus fan ever since the original Elise and this is the first one I'm actually buying. I was in long doubts on buying a Cup 430, however I plan to use it more as a track car and I couldn't justify the higher tax and higher runningcost for the purpose I'm planning on using it for. I can always trade in later if I still feel the power is too low on the Elise but I'm sure I'll have a blast driving this. As I had intended to purchase a Cup 430 and modify that, I figured, might aswel go all-out on the carbon parts when speccing an Elise Cup ;)

Why this topic? Because I plan on doing some serious modifications on the little Elise and I can use feedback from experienced Lotus owners. I also know this thread is WORTHLESS without pics but not to worry, there will be plenty to come :)

Base spec:

  • Metallic Grey
  • Interior Colour Pack
  • 2 Floor Mats (for the girlfriend)
  • Aircon
  • Carbon Aero Pack
  • Carbon Fibre Hardtop
  • Carbon Fibre Front Access Panel
  • Carbon Fibre Tailgate
  • Carbon Fibre Roll Hoop Cover
  • Orange Stitching

Certain mods:

Possible mods:

If anyone has any experiences with the modifications above, please feel free to give your opinion and advice :)

Countdown to the first week of June!

What about dampers - adjustable Ohlins/Nitron?

Looking forward to following what you do 👍

Dampers will be replaced after the originals wear out. I expect as my track experience keeps growing I'll find more use for them.

Your specification sounds fantastic! I've got a 1st gen. Cup 250 with the Carbon aero pack from the factory and a carbon roll hoop cover that I've added later myself. I would love to get my hands on a carbon access panel and tailgate to finish it all off but they are a bit too pricey for me

Anyway, looking forward to seeing lots of pics of your car in the near future :)

Have you checked the carbon parts at Komo-tec? They are WAY cheaper than Lotus OEM.

It does add to the experience! Would love to get some more high-res pictures and have them on the wall in my garage/car cave :)

New update from the factory!

The car was due delivery the first week of june but will be delayed. Even though the pictures sent from the factory show the car in a fairly finished state, Lotus said some carbon parts were missing and need some time to be installed.

I can tell from the pictures it's the sideplates from the spoiler and the sideskirts. Hopefully it doesn't take them long because these pictures, that's just teasing!

Already ordered the Reverie wing and some other minor interior parts. Really excited!

Now lotus have gone to a smaller wing end plate, I suppose that yours will be the first made in carbon, thats where the delay could be 🤷‍♂️

So, I have a lot of new stuff on the way.

The Reverie wing should be due somewhere around the 20th of june, should be a very nice upgrade.

Meanwhile made some other purchases at elise-shop.com, where Yvo was super helpful in giving plenty information on the parts.

- Black Fuel Filler

- Momo Type 88 wheel (if I don't like this one, I'll be replacing it for the OMP alternative)

- Summit Technologies Raptor 8 Wireless control system

- Carbon Airbag cover

- Carbon Instrument Cover

Car should have been delivered this week but I guess it will be early next week.

License plate GOT-APEX already registered. Very curious to get all the parts fitted.

Next up is a a full PPF protective film and I've also had a first meeting with a guy in our car club who does custom interiors.
I'm planning on getting the dashboard and airvents with a custom alcantara trim with orange stitching. They are a very high end company and I've seen some of their work and it truly is amazing.

Should lift up the feel of the interior a lot. I was playing with the idea to have the harnass bar also fitted with alcantara and stitching. Would look pretty sweet I think. Opinions? I've always liked the custom trimming Singer did on their harnass bars & rollcages. Should look pretty special I think.

I do like an Alcantara interior!

On the harness bar, I'd probably wait to see before making any calls. You won't get to see much of it anyway given the shape of the seats vs cabin size - v different to something like a 911 where its pretty open at the back.

I think it's all in small details even though they aren't always super visible. It's the same thing with Pagani cars. I love the attention to detail on those.

Should be any day now. Still waiting on delivery. Trailer was also packed with Aston Martin and Mclaren and they made a stop in Germany first for some reason.

Finally just waiting for paperwork going thru customs. (So slow in Belgium). Hopefully it is 'road legal' by this weekend. Then off for some PPF coating :)

I did receive some race livery design proposals but they were all way too much. So I'm probably just sticking with PPF and perhaps include an orange racing stripe like Lotus can deliver from factory.

Just came back from the dealership and had my first actual look at the car.

I'm very pleased I went with the full carbon spec. It really looks amazing combined with the grey color.

The dealer was so kind to use dealership plates so we could drive it to the car wrap specialist a few km's away while awaiting final delivery of the license plate. The wrap company was fully booked this week and they could finish on saturday if they started today so the Lotus dealer helped me out. Very kind of them! I drove behind it in my C63 as I'm not insured to drive the dealership plates and was really pleased the way it looked.

First time on the road and obviously giving her the first sweet taste of petrol!
After the PPF looking into modifying the interior all at once because I don't want to disassemble and reassemble the car more than necessairy.

Good news and bad news.

First the good news: Lotus is on schedule and will be ready tomorrow. PPF will be fully fitted so I'll be able to take some drives this weekend. I did get a temporary plate so the vanity plate will be due somewhere next week.

The bad news: when driving my Mercedes C63 to the office this morning, I had to stop for a pedestrian crossing the street and a big lorry behind me wasn't able to stop in time and he drove into me. Insured but very unpleased as now I have to go to my dealer, get a quote, get if fixed... bleh.

Bumper on the Scania truck looked worse actually but still bleh :)
