Hmmm.... Short Period Of Boost...

Recommended Posts

Hi folks - emabarrasing moment today at Supercar Sunday when we were 'parading' in the ring...

Gave the car boot full of throttle in second gear - 60yds - then brakes - engine died...

On restart took a little cranking and then cloud of smoke...

Assume she flooded?

Anything else I should look for?

Was this likely to just be a function of rapid transition from acceleration to braking? Anything I need to check carbs/fuel system wise?

Apart from this hiccup she performed perfectly all day...

Iain

Iain, how long had the car been running if it had only been a short time then it could well just have flooded itself.

As it ran perfectally teh rest of the day I would presonly just keep an eye on it and if it happens again then look deeper.

Hi Glyn...

Well - it had been running about 5 mins - temp/oil pressure indicated everything up to temp or I wouldn't have engaged wide open throttle...

Hasn't repeated the occurrence - but my driving is normally a lot more sedate! ;)

I do suspect I'm running a little on the rich side though...

Might be worth checking the float level in the carbs. and the float valves as well; it's not a normal part of driving, mad blast of acceleration followed by hard braking; does sound like it's flooding itself somehow.

Thanks John,

Floats should be fine - everything has just been rebuilt by SJ Sportscars....

I'm not going to investigate further yet - but may see if I can replicate.

Hoping it was just a one off and was a case of stage fright as it's the first time in my 10 years of ownership she's been paraded around a public area - just hope it didn't prompt a 'typical Lotus' comment from any of the audience ;)
