PhilW 403
I always had it my head the Turbo Esprit had Dellorto DHLA 45 carbs. Just checked and the service notes say DHLA 40H. 907 engines had 45's. I assume this is right?
910Esprit 579
DHLA40 is correct for yours, HC used DHLA45.

PhilW 403
Discovered today. Refurb kit for 40 and 45 is the same
ekwan 70
Phil, assuming your car is a UK spec, non-HC engine......... Edited May 9, 2019 by ekwan
PhilW 403
Thanks. I have this in the service notes. I have spoken to Dellorto who have the exact correct kit for the car. More entertainment coming my way I think!
snowrx 200
Would love to hear discussion about the rationale behind the different choke sizes, and how they performed. USA option being suspect as to emissions limitations, but still going to a smaller choke in a larger body for the HC is interesting.
drdoom 447
Not much effect expected between these differing carbs at this power level and configuration. 210 - 220 HP from a turbo'd 2.2 won't lean heavily on the choke size in my view. What was the restrictor diameter on the WRX rally cars of about 15 years back, when torque levels were on par with top-tier NASCAR V-8's?

This was from earlier in this thread and the attached pic is from my WSM. Can anyone confirm which Carb I shoud have? How do I visually confirm what's in my car ('85 MY TE)
910Esprit 579
None of the above! An 85 UK spec Turbo uses the DHLA40 body. Based on the WSM part number illustrated I assume they are NA variants Earlier post has correct turbo part numbers. Edited November 5, 2020 by 910Esprit
Gold FFM thebartman 127 Posted November 5, 2020 Gold FFM Report Share Posted November 5, 2020 Thanks @910Esprit, so the part numbers in the photo are for S3 NA? and I'm missing part numbers in the parts list for the turbo?
910Esprit 579
I believe so. See Eric's post above for correct part number(s\. (assuming yours is a domestic model) If you examine your carbs, you will see the body size (eg DHLA40) is cast into each carb.
Gold FFM thebartman 127 Posted November 5, 2020 Gold FFM Report Share Posted November 5, 2020 Thanks - took some random pictures and spotted a "40" lurking under a bit of pipework 🙂. So the difference between 40s and 45s is internal? are the rebuild kits the same and mounting O-rings etc.?

So the difference between 40s and 45s is internal? are the rebuild kits the same and mounting O-rings etc.? The barrel sizes would be different. I believe the aux venturis are of a different design between the 40s & 45s. Also the choke sizes for the 40s range from 25-37mm. The choke sizes for the 45s range from 28mm-40mm. Even though there is an huge overlap in choke sizes, they are different for both 40s and 45s due to the difference in the external diameter needed to fit the smaller or larger barrels respectively. You have to watch out for the acceleration pump diaphragms, I believe the rod-ends on these might different for Lotus cars. I know for a fact, the one supplied for the DHLA45E are definitely specific for Lotus 2.2 engines.
