Who does anyone think it is going to be, and who else on here is going to get to vote on it if it gets whittled down to the last two?

I thought about making this a Poll, but as everyman and his dog seems to be standing, decided not to, maybe closer to the time.

I was speaking about the Tories. Corbyn is a threat to this country is every aspect.

BoJo and JRM absolutely ROCKED in Parliament today! This guy really seems to mean business. I sincerely hope he delivers. I don't imagine that he will be 'all things to all people' - that's just

Do you guys get to vote on who becomes the new PM?

If this sort of thing happens here, the party itself has a leadership battle and we minions end up having a PM that we never voted for who then runs everything they way they want to and potentially, any issue we voted a government in for, can get chucked out.

A leadership spill can even happen when the PM doesn't quit, but the party has a whole heap of backstabbing etc.

I hate politics. Possibly one of the biggest money sucking pits on the planet. I think they even beat lawyers and second hand car salesmen.

The older I get, the more I think my vote is just a waste of time.

Only the 'grass roots' members of the Conservative Party get to vote on the new PM, after the Parliamentary party sort out the runners into the last 2 standing.

Given that now there are only 125,000 paid up members, I guess there won't be many on here who will get to vote for the last 2

Is the price for that bit in Yen or £?

I joined the Conservative party last September so as to be able to vote in this - £2.09 a month. Just hope there isn't s stitch up last time when the 2nd runner pulled out clearing the way for May - look how that turned out.

So some of the public get a chance to vote once it is down to the last 2? Do I understand that correctly?

Over here, it is just the current party. Sucks.

We then end up paying PM support for them for the rest of their lives even though the public never voted that person in as PM. Here's hoping they depart us quickly after their 'term'.

Notable shysters would be Julia Gillard, Scott Morrison. There would be many others, but searching for their names would only result in me needing to buy another computer as I would probably destroy my current one in an escalating fit of rage.

Here in the UK it is the "current party" as you term it. The vote that would include non-MPs is only for paid-up members of the UK Conservative party. It's that (controlling majority) party's own rules that determine the leadership process. So it's not about whether you're Gentry or not that determines whether you have a say in the choice of  PM, it's as simple as whether you applied and were accepted to that party. (and then carried on paying membership fees).

I removed the Gentry bit.

Over here the 'current party' is only the politicians that are in parliament. Paid up members don't even get a look in as far as I know. So essentially we can get a new PM based on the vote of about 40 people.

You have to question the motives of anyone standing to replace May. Basically she took the poison chalice and whoever replaces her will get the same.

Regardless of your political leanings, whatever eventually happens as regards Brexit is going to piss off the majority of the population and they will largely blame whoever is the PM at the time. It’s therefore a short term gig.

Within our system we vote for our local MP that represents a party. Everyone get that? We do not vote for a PM, we vote for a party... that party gets to pick the leader. Then if that “ Party “ wins there’s your PM.

If that party leader “ PM “ makes such a balls of it, the party has the mechanism to oust them or force them to resign.

to be honest i have no respect for any politicians any more.. clearly they have no respect for each other or anyone other than themselves..  they struggle to get anything passed as they all squabble about themselves.. i fed up with all the backstabbing...

personally id prefer a dictatorship pm to some extent.. candidates put themselves forward and their ideas,,  we vote for them , what they say goes. total power.. give two year term..  after that we get to vote again for them to stay or a new pm with new ideas..  at least we may get some progress and agendas implemented..

never going to happen i know, and unrealistic too, but with our system no one can do anything , other than quit when the going gets tough..

at the end of the day ive given up caring what they do, just so long as they do something!!.. what ever happens the world will not end, we wil carry on perhaps we need a huge reset

i mean just to show you how pathetic our system is, 6 months before May became PM she was pictured outside her constituency village hall , campaigning  to remain!  saying how this was so right for the country..  then 6 months later  shes PM saying we need to leave...   it just leaves  confusion  and no trust in our system

It doesn’t actually matter who the next PM is, if they can’t deliver Brexit before the next GE then the Tories are doomed to political oblivion.

Given that a large proportion of Conservative MP’s won’t support the May deal or no deal and the EU won’t renegotiate the May deal, it’s impossible to see how Brexit can be delivered at this point.

Batten down the hatches and prepare for a Corbyn led Socialist coalition next time around. Far more damaging to the UK’s future prosperity than Brexit would ever have been.

Dominic Raab seems like a good bet to me. Although I don’t have a vote.
