Eyes in the sky tomorrow 2.37pm over Maidstone.   Unlikely to see this again any time soon. 34 Dakotas flying from Duxford towards Europe.     https://www.kentonline.co.uk/maidstone/news/where-you-can-see-the-d-day-flypast-over-kent-205923/

I'm heading down to Eastbourne to watch them fly over Beachy Head off to France. Once in a lifetime day so see them all as they would have been 75 years ago.

EDIT: just to add, he's just dug out and charged up his Panasonic VX21 VHS-C camcorder to film proceedings. I'm not expecting great results and he's got nothing to play the tapes back on. The last time he used it was on a safari in Kenya with my mum. She died in 2000, so that holiday would have been at least 20 years ago. Bless.

It's only an hour away, once in a lifetime experience... pop along to Duxford :)

No-one would say 'I'm glad I worked that afternoon' in their final hours!

There's been lots of recent activity in my town for the 75th, as you would expect. There's a real buzz about the place with plenty of visitors by land, sea and air but also plenty of movement restrictions and new (manned with guns) road barriers popping up and many more police launches chugging about.

Today (Weds) sees the huge commemorative event on the common with gun salutes, mock landings and a lunchtime fly-past of all kinds of historic and modern planes before the Red Arrows do their bit in the afternoon. MV Boudicca leaves port in the evening carrying around 300 veterans on their poignant trip back to Normandy escorted and saluted by the Royal Navy.

It's quite an emotional week for the city.

They just past Maidstone 7-8 bunched together at the front and then at 40 second intervals.   Blimey they are slow by comparison to modern planes.   1st and last had invasion colours  on them. Sorry no pics as would just be a spec on phone camera.
