Any Jewellers or Jewellery makers here?

Recommended Posts

I am looking at "Skilling up" and have a real interest in Jewellery Making and designing  my own Jewellery. Does anyone here do that or have any skills in the area? Courses in Norwich are either full time or "Make a wedding ring" style courses.

It's great another JPS has been saved, I maybe biased, but still one of the most beautiful Loti ever made. Keeping it on a jewellery/silversmith theme!!

Sorry, forgive my ignorance GST.? The sort of thing that you make after 5 years of training. Made by my Apprentice as her finishing piece. All made by hand!!

@Woody sorry mate, GST are the Lotus gurus Gerald the owner was rebuilding a plus 2 when I was last there and it was pretty amazing and stunning that was JPS so I put two and two together and got seve

Our friends we stay with in Bavaria are Jewellers. They specialise in setting and designing Lapis Lazuli (semi precious stone) into gold and silver.

Most people know Lapis as the blue stone set in the gold found in the Egyptian tombs.

I know one of their biggest issues is buying/importing the stones as most of the Worlds Lapis mines are in Afghanistan.

Interesting in their workshops with all the tools though.

Always do sober what you said you'd do drunk - that will teach us to keep mouth shut!

It is virtually impossible to do a course on it, it appears to be one of the few industries where people learn their trade as Apprentices.

I have looked at every course within a 100 mile radius and they are full time college courses or "Touristy" come in and make a ring events for couples who are marrying etc.

Guess I'll just have to carry on buying and selling other peoples Jewelery!

@Woodie I've added you to our PM list for events in the Herts/Essex/Cambs area. We have a meeting on Sunday morning if you fancy it.

Gorgeous!

Must admit, buying and selling is much easier but really wanted to learn to do it myself! But Most Silver in Auctions goes in job lots and normally at scrap value. An auction doesn't go by when I don't find an absolute cracking find. Just sold a Danish Silver bracelet made in the 30's where the links were Viking longboats. Got it as part of a job lot (6 items for £56) and sold it for £250.

It's great when you find gem among the chaff.  I find it very sad to think of the beautiful pieces of art deco and art nouveau I have altered in the name of fashion!!.

I'd love to show some of the big things that we have made but the clients are a bit touchy about it!!

Dan E asked if my +2 is with GST, I don't know who that is. The car currently at Spydercars. They have now painted it and the gold metal flake roof looks amazing.
