Serious trouble V8

I thought he had umm marked up the pulleys 🧐

I really do hope this all ends well for you

Yes, he had...

But once he started rotating the engine and the intermediate shaft pulleys came loose...

The timing got messed up !!

And today he admitted that he needs the factory timing kit for the V8 !!

So if the pulleys were not loose, we would have avoided this..

But as they say, everything happens for a reason... And this time I was lucky that the pulleys got loose right away and not later with catastrophic results!!!

Quick questions : When I receive the drill jig, how many millimeters should the drill be and how many mm the metal part that will be inserted ? Thanks

The jig has a guide hole that is drilled dia. 6.3mm.  I'm away from home, so cannot measure the width of the primary drive pulley's and washer.

You do have some space behind the assy. before impacting the oil seal sleeve but of course need to determine a depth measurement.

A little off subject...

While I am waiting for the PNM timing kit for the V8, I wanted to ask you about about the well known problem of the bulkhead plywood noise in the V8.

A while ago I posted this...

We made the cut with my mechanic, cut the bolt sleeves as shown and tried to tighten them for the noise to go away... but no luck...

FYI it is the same mechanic that is building my engine !! Please no heavy rock throwing... At least throw small rocks !! LOL

NEW UPDATE !!

With the drill jig and timing kit from PNM, my mechanic resumed work on the V8 !!

He admitted to me that had misjudged that it was going to be difficult to drill with the jig... It turned out to be a piece of cake !! He was very grateful to all of you guys and especially to Mike Sekinger for providing the jig !!

Really pleased this phase went well. Good luck with the rest of the job, we're all waiting for a video of the start-up and your first drive in the V8. :driving:

I came into this world screaming and covered in someone elses blood. I'll probably leave it in the same way.

That's the standard V8 alloy bellhousing.  The early cast ones were mostly replaced under warranty as part of the 'free'  twin-plate clutch upgrade.

In my opinion if your car is performing well and you have no issues, there is no reason to mess with it just for looks...

In the US they say : If it ain't broken, don't fix it...

Therefore, I suggest you leave it as is, and in the future, if you need to drop gearbox for any type of work (for example clutch replacement) you can check pricing and see if it worth it...

Quick Question

Now that my car will be ready, I need to buy an OBD2 diagnostic reader.

My friend here on this board Mike (v8GTmac1) suggested the Foxwell NT201.

I found this on ebay :

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Foxwell-Car-OBD2-Scanner-Engine-Check-Code-Reader-Diagnostic-Tool-Live-Data/392275397572?hash=item5b556f8bc4:g:Y0cAAOSwKp1djckO

Mike : Is this the same as yours ?

Does anyone have any experience with this ? Will it work on my 2001 Lotus Esprit V8 (US Spec) ?

Thanks !!

I have an old cast iron bell housing and was wondering if it was worth upgrading to an alloy one?? I have a twin plate clutch installed. certainly looks better!

The cast bellhousing has a nasty resonance at around 3500prm.  It is worth replacing if you can find an allow one cheaply.

Mine is Maxwell that cost me $25 and reads all the sensors Live. It’s just slower to react then the pricier ones.

In the end they all have to do the same job.

If I wanted to spend the same amount again I would get an Autel AL319

The Launch Creader 619 even reads srs and abs. $79

But the Esprit parts came with expiration dates. So you must fix before it breaks cause you know it will. HA
