But the Esprit parts came with expiration dates. So you must fix before it breaks cause you know it will. HA

So do we all agree I should buy this OBD 2 Reader to check for any error codes and see diagnostics ?

If anyone objects to this marriage speak now or forever hold your peace !!!

Ooops I meant, just say now your opinion before I buy it ... LOL Hahahaha

Have you seen this thread.... ?

I have and I borrowed from a friend an ELM323 reader and tried with my laptop to see info on the screen, but I did not manage to get it to work !!

Therefore I was looking for something simpler...

That's why I looked into this OBD 2 reader that seems both simple to use and cheap..

Options on that ? Yes / no , thanks !!

On the contrary... He says he is taking it slowly (my car) because he is doing other cars at the same time.. The money he charges at the end of the day is very reasonable

So how soon do you plan on changing the oil  and what kind of oil because you shouldn’t use synthetic the first time

I used SAE 30 the first two times and that was two or 3 miles I’m driving

For you I will change the oil after 10min minutes of it running. But you can use normal grade oil for the but you can use normal grade oil

Then again after a test drive

And depending on what comes out you could go a few hundred miles the third time

What does everyone else think considering what this motor went through In the rebuild process.

I haven't asked yet... But my mechanic told me very soon... Both oil and oil filter...

The oil I am using is Shell Helix Ultra 5w-40... This is the same synthetic oil I use for my Ferrari 360 and Mercedes SL 55 AMG... The Porsche 993 gets Shell Helix Ultra Racing 10w-60...

With regards to the break in, he said he will drive the car the first 100 km...

When I inquired about the break in process, he said everything should be done smoothly at wide rpm range, not violently...

The piston rings need to form the shape of the liners that are not completely round by default...

He explained what happens when you break it in violently is you get hot spots on the rings due to excess friction and heat...

Lol. How easy is it to find a mechanic at home that will rebuild at 918 in different parts of the world. I wrench for a living and wanted to pay someone to do it but “Pablo’s Speed Shop”never responded.

Pablo Is well known the side of the country but he would have bankrupted me

Lotus specialty shop in California wanted 25k parts and labor with only a Cylinder liner issues in mind But mine had metal everywhere  so.....$$$

OK but you had metal contamination just like me and you’re not sure it’s all gone I can show you a picture of my first oil sample

I’m running twin oil filters  and installed new oil cooler and lines  And I still picked up a lot of garbage  in 2 miles   So i didn’t want my oil pump picking up and pushing through all the bearings again.

Info I've seen for many years has been that synthetic oil is slower to break in the rings. And synthetic oil will not show it's advantages for the very short oil change interval planned for an engine that had a messy failure.

And I'd be flushing backwards against the flow direction when running.

All we know is that when they stop making this, we will be properly, properly sad.Jeremy Clarkson on the Esprit.

I spoke with my mechanic today and he totally agrees that he will use oil for 10 minutes until the car warms up at idle and then flush it... He told me he will use simple oil... After he flushes the system , he will put the synthetic oil and the car will be driven for 1500 km before replacement again...

He is holding me back, because he is working on my friend's Ferrari 458 Challenge car than is racing this weekend... I will go see the race... So I give him some understanding...

It's just an uneducated guess but as there are the long lines towards the oil radiator at the front, I suspect it will be hard to get rid of the bad grade oil he will put in first, so ... I would probably put the recommended grade oil first for peace of mind anyway.

For the initial start-up, I always use an oil cooler by-pass pipe.  This also has the benefit of speeding up establishment of the oil pressure.

IF you could elaborate on the factory fitting style and size please.

Pretty sure it's 5/8BSP.    I took opened-up swage ends from an old pair down to the local hydraulic specialist to have them form a short link pipe.  Just be cautious on the bend radius of the hose.  You will need a decent spec hose that can flex accordingly.
