Thats correct, it would be difficult to get the springs right first time. Also, on the pre-85 the lower link twists as it goes up and down as its located front-rear by the ARB. So the lower shock

So it's looking like nothing will ever come of this? What a tragedy! I have a 1978 Esprit S2 that needs a suspension overhaul and I would have snapped up a Bilstein/Eibach setup in a second.

Has there been any update on this? If we could hold of the specs, could we not get some made etc?

Hi Bibs,

If a couple more commitments are needed to hit the number and make this happen, either myself and/or a colleague are willing to buy an extra couple of sets, in addition to those I have already committed to.

Thanks,

Tony

Thank you Harald,

The second post is for Polybushes for early models,

but also interesting is the front damper replacement, last post of September,

Cheers Rolf

Bibs,

I see on the Lotus Esprit World site that Lotus has approved the damper from the 85-87 Esprit (LOTAC 5404/ 5405) for use in the earlier car but the front still retains the stock spring. So this looks as thought we are 90% there, just missing the fact of whether or not the Eibach front spring can be used.

I realize with the earlier car (pre-85) having the lower spring perch on the suspension arm this might pose a problem with Lotus suggesting owners needing to cut or modify the lower control arm (perch) for clearance but can anybody verify that this can be done? If all that is needed is a little "trimming" I certainly would entertain the idea.

Best,

Jeff

P.S. Roads in California are nearing "horse and buggy" days and I need some relief!

Any experience of polybushes on a S1 or S2? Can see the benefit of geometry precision, but is there a big loss through NVH?

As the post above, what are the real differences for pre '85 cars? are the damper mounts the same. If the issue is custom springs, I am sure that these could be knocked out at a reasonable price given that there must be an immediate order for at least 25 pairs (giving a lot of attrition from the statements of intent)

I have them on my blue S1 -- they sharpen up the handling nicely with no deterioration in ride quality; the S1 is not stiffly sprung compared to its overweight peers such as the Ferrari 308 . . . ;) As for NVH, if it changed anything I will never know, due to that elephant in the middle of the room known as the 907 sitting on solid rubber mounts! (That is, the 907 and the way it is mounted creates so much NVH that it drowns out any other NVH issues . . .) :D

Might not be a bad time for someone who "has an ear" at Lotus to mention this. Should be a relatively simple project that:-

Demonstrates that Lotus are passionate about heritage

Promotes the Esprit brand

Delivery in 2011 will give classic car magazines a good opportunity for an "Esprit at 35" article (just need some new tyres to go with new suspension!)

I wonder about the state of this project now that forward looking only Dany Bahar is running things (he could care less about Elises, let alone older Esprits from what I see/read). Priorities may put this wayyyy on the back burner. Anyone with a contact inside to inquire?

But Bibs, is there any timeline forecast? I know there are people on the TLF site and s1s2s3owners site that have been on the combined "I will buy" list a few years and since the required 100 interested parties seems to have been met I'm sure people would like to know "if the rescue ship is on the horizon" or they should "plan on cutting down trees to build their own raft." secret.gif

If I or you ask the factory the answer to the question will be 'the project is ongoing' and we'll get nothing more concrete than that.

Ok thanks. I thought they were waiting for 100 people to demonstrate committed interest and then they would announce whether it was on or not.. I didn't know they had something started already.
