Tyre size confirmation please 😁 newb help!

Recommended Posts

Newb alert! I have forged wheels on my 350s, want to put stickier tyres on it.

Everyone suggests 215/45/17 for the front. Just wanted to double check this as as most of you probably know the standard size is 205/45/17 and logically to me the equivalent diameter in the wider cross section for more rubber on the tarmac would be 215/40/17??

Surely 215/45/17 produces a larger overall diameter??

If that's not the case then I'll shut up! 🤣

Please educate my newbness...

I have 215/45zr17 front and 285/30zr18 rear cup2s on my 350.

the key to getting more rubber on the tarmac is a geo and remove the shivs.

exige’s are made to understeer so you put enormous stress on the front tyre outer edge (1cm). My original tyres were laughable when I changed them after 5 track days and 10k miles.

So if I run 215/45/17 on the front can I still run 265/35/18 on the rear or do I have to move up to 285/30/18??

So according to tyre dims, putting the front end on 215/45/17's will lift the nose by 15mm ish but also fill the arches by the same amount...

The 45 is a % of the width.

So a 205/45 has 92.25mm sidewall height. A 215/45 has a 96.75mm sidewall.

So 4.5mm taller which will raise the nose by a similar amount.

Hey guys, interesting. I was looking to raise the front a bit, so 215/45 17 at the front would help that too. Can I have the back tires stay original size though?
