Esprit Losing Parts At High Speed

We went for a hoon to the Nurburgring last week-end. Together with my friends we selected an "autobahn" quiet and with no speed limits in the direction of the ring. Of we went, a Gallardo, a DB7, a Testarossa, M3, Ferrari 355 and a Porsche GT3. After crossing the Belgian-German border the speed went up to 180 kph (120mph). We pulled over to check the cars that nothing could go wrong. After this stop the speed went up to 200 kph. Suddenly the Gallardo pulled away. I

A differnt model of Porsche, but the same problem.

My boss came from Scotland to Suffolk in his Boxster, he's a little bit over keen on the right foot being buried into the carpet as hard as he can manage. On the journey he kept the throttle on full, instead of easing off ever so slightly, and he managed to burn out the )2 sensors, that seriously reduced his driving speed. The poor car couldn't calculate its desired fuel mix, so went into a limp mode.

Perhaps there's something we Lotus drivers can take the P*** out of Porsche drivers for when it comes to reliability- there had to be one bit they didn't over engineer.

Agree. Think they suit really well. Might do a swap now of the wifes Honda Accord.

When I bought my 89 SE, I trailered it backwards and the 70 mph wind had my passenger side mirror completely hanging by the time I got back. You could spin it around and around with your fingers.

Then the next day my driver mirror glass only fell out and was dangling by the wires only. I slapped some 2-way tape in there but now the whole assembly is loose also.

What is the deal with these mirrors???

Hi,

Might be why my Esprit has had the mirrors replaced. The seller did say they use to shake a lot, so he fitted some Honda Accord ones. Have to say they do look smart on the car, and no shake problems. :(

Owen,

Any idea what model of Accord they came from, they look fantastic, I would love to fit some on my GT3, Also did you get the Nova's new or secondhand?

The Esprit wing mirrors are the same as those fitted to the XJ220 - hardly a slow car :(

It's just that I have a broken one (LH) and I am looking at alternatives, as the Citroen one aint cheap and they are almost impossible to find second hand.

Thanks Ian, but yep it's the wrong side, and it's only the black outer trim that is broken on mine. Thanks again mate, I'll buy you a pint next time we meet anyway for the effort.

You know the more and more I think about this the more and more I should launch a parts order website for things like this from the cross reference list.

Try these guys they stock about every part for the Esprit Mirrors and at a fraction of the cost.
