Evora coolant level

Recommended Posts

Perhaps a stupid question but what does Lotus mean with the horizontal seam of the coolant reservoir:

Quote

The maximum recommended cold level is 3/8 inch (10mm) below the horizontal moulded seam running around the tank, with the lowest acceptable level being 1 inch (25mm) below the seam.

Do they mean the seam just below the black 'hood' of the reservoir? When I open the cap and look into the reservoir, I see the coolant is quite low, well below the supposedly seam. If I would top it up to the proposed level, I would expect it to be too much.

Anyone has a picture/photo that shows the correct level?

Have you been monitoring it? Has it always been at that level or has it dropped recently?

Yes, that is correct. Yours looks a bit low.

From your description mine looks high from your quoted text but both my Evoras left Hethel with them at this level.

I didn’t took notice before of the level but did notice some coolant smell when parking my car in the garage.

only covered 3000km or so since I got the car. Can’t see any leaks and no puddle under the car. Smell is coming from the engine bay.

i will top it up and mark the level, let’s see what it does..

Working backwards, the expansion of coolant is 6% of total volume. The Evora coolant capacity is 12.5 liters  at 212 Degrees the volume expands 0.75 liters, so provided that about 1 litre space is left that should give you a reasonable starting point
