That's a very neat job but, to be honest, I don't find it too much of a chore to lift the tailgate to plug mine in. I've now fitted a small switch alongside the trunk light so it doesn't stay on and burn out the bulb whilst the tailgate is open.

There's plenty of room for it in the plastic shroud along the back of the trunk, where the light is fitted.

Very neat solution 👍 @ZThang - and welcome to the forum 🙂  I follow your YouTube channel as well, some really great content you've produced 👍 its great to see more and more people championing the product in the USA; they are rare sight on the road here in the UK, and I imagine even rarer in the US (though I say that without knowing what sort of numbers you have in the USA!)

On my S1, I'm able to fully close (and lock) the boot with the cable able to neatly route between panel / spoiler gap.  I've also changed all my festoon bulbs to LED so there's less power drain anyway when working on the engine.  Your switch solution @Spinney is a great idea though, I might do that!

You don't need a switch to "kill" the trunk light. Just close the latch with a key or a screwdriver. Then you just need to remember to push the little tab on the right side of the lock before you close the trunklid.
