Upgrading the UN-1 : Should I go to a Ford spline?

Recommended Posts

i am ordering the updated GTO kit with LSD.

I was wondering is it worth going with the Ford spline option and have different clutch options?

Has anyone done this ?  What are the pros and cons with the change?

Yes - I've done this.  It's a little bit bigger which is good.  The only downside, is that you need to source friction discs to suit which will need to come from AP or an AP agent - meaning not off the shelf from some of the other parts providers.

If you are thinking about moving away from AP completely, then there are also options.  ClutchMasters in the US can supply parts from their 850-series.  Several US owners have gone this route which also gives the change for sprung friction discs and different flywheel options.

A little late to the party, having only just seen this. I too went with the larger ford spline which has been fine. I haven't had to change the clutch since installation so don't know how easy or difficult it might be when the time comes to get the necessary plates.

What did you decide to do in the end?
