Warning S1 & S2 Tyres

Just thought I'd share my experience with these tyres. As we're all aware, getting the correct size V-rated tyres has become tricky without shelling out for the

:coffee: I wish I had the luxury of being able to buy V-rated tires here in the States. The Fuldas are not available here.

I have H-rated Falken ZE-502s on my cars -- 205/60 front and 225/60 rear. They do squeal, but the grip was actually better than on the Michelin MXVs they replaced.

I have never had an issue in the rain with the 502s, but when I bought my 944, it had V-rated Falken 512s (225/60/15) on it, and I agree that they sucked -- a lot less grip than what I was used to.

I need to buy front tires for one of the S1s, and I was going to buy the 512s because Falken says they can be mixed/matched with the (now discontinued) 502s, but I will heed your warning and consider other tires -- 205/60/14 is not hard to find in H-rated.

I sure wish I could buy a matching set of V-rated tires.

I've used ZE512s on the Subaru and have to say that, for a relatively low budget tyre, I was really quite impressed. Were a different size/speed rating though - 225/55/16 Z. Also recall that they took a couple of hundred miles to scrub in.

Guess it proves that just because one tyre suits a particular make/model of car it doesn't automatically follow that it will suit all.

Interesting views guys. Popped out again today (very wet) and did the sideways slide again on a roundabout - this time without the heavy right foot! I've completely lost confidence in the car :crybaby:

Maybe they need scrubbing in a bit more. Probably only covered 250 miles so far on them but I'm really tempted to swap the rears now for the Fuldas I've got and hopefully following a lead on Monday for some V rated Firestones. It feels like the rears are more the culprits than the fronts and as I've got a replacement set, I might as well find out! Problem is this experimentation is getting expensive!

Could the lack of weight be a problem?

My concern is the trans-Euro trip I've got planned in August which I want to really enjoy and not have to worry grip levels when enjoying mountain passes and Autobahns!

PS Tony, I'll be toasting our Eastern European heritage when I get to Slovenia!! :yes
