It's normal that the gear stick gets warm, since there is hot water running under it (to the radiator).

Nothing to worry about !

yeah i know we speak about it in some other topic, but somebody wroted down about some missing gasket

You may have a split rubber gasket. I quite like mine split, at least I know the water pump is working!

The gasket is arubber gaiter type, so it moves with the gear stick, it's normaly placed onto the backbone chassis, and has an aluminium ring holding it down.

That will be your problem! You are missing half of the rubber gasket.

ehm, if i ve good imagination, part 29 on the scheme is this gray around on the picture, gashed in middle, right?

Yes that's right.

The only area you have left appeasr to be the outer pieces, with one of the ribs left, the rest having fallen inside the schassis over time.

Mine is worse than yours, I had no ribs left, only part of the outer lip, so I am going to have to replace it and will probably notice quite a difference. I guess it will also reuce the petrol fumes I'm experiencing in the cabin as well (I have new breather pipes onthe car, before anybody suggests they may be at fault-they were falling apart).

andy - hehe thats t mine (i ve used only known picture), in mine is nothing:)

ee SJ, no idea, but they dont communicate with me, thats way i m using stratton mc.

don't waste your time/money replacing it with another rubber boot that will rot again.. I have one of these:

works great and it adds 3 or 4 horsepower because its made of nomex and the guy selling it says its a "RACEING" part lol.. all kidding aside its a real asset especially now that the weather is starting to really warm up.
