The Spanner appears

Recommended Posts

Driving home in the very wet yesterday, hit some standing water car held (it is surprisingly stable given the tyre width and lack of weight) and the spanner appeared on the dash for a few seconds.

I have a reader, but, I know it's a silly question (and one I should know) but where is the socket? Any help would be appreciated - please don't mock

Whatever caused the spanner to come on won’t be picked up by an OBD reader. It’s a Lotus Techcentre thing.

Why is that Jonny? One would assume MIL issues would be more important (but can be seen).

It's in at Silverstone in a couple of weeks, but would be nice to put my mind at ease

The Spanner isn’t the MIL. If the MIL came on, it would stay on and the code could be read by a generic OBD reader.

The Spanner is a Lotus thing and it refers to minor issues. I can’t remember the exact phraseology used but it’s worth reading the manual (to put your mind at rest).

If it was an issue, wouldn't the spanner stay illuminated?

If it comes on then goes out, I would have thought it might be something as simple as water where it should not have been and then goes away?

All we know is that when they stop making this, we will be properly, properly sad.Jeremy Clarkson on the Esprit.

The spanner always comes on for a few seconds then goes out. It’s not a MIL.

(It’s all in the manual, innit).

Not always the case, when I had a  cruise control stalk issue, the spanner light was constant.

Correct it is not the MIL though, it's for 'minor' issues or similar according to the manual, and wont' be picked up by an OBD reader.
