Exhaust heat shields

Recommended Posts

Has anyone considered sticking some self adhesive heat shield material to these??

I'm replacing mine and I thought that I could stick some Zircoflex self adhesive barrier to them, this would, I hope stop them rattling if and when they crack.

Also they would be better at heat shielding.

The only problem would be at what temperature the adhesive breaks down. I'm guessing it would.

Merlin got back to me and said the adhesive gives way at about 200 degrees C. They said that if the heat shield material is stuck on the inside , ie facing the manifold then the heat should not get through to the adhesive  and would probably be ok.

Anyway its fireproof so worth a try.

I'm getting some new heatshields made up of thicker stainless so when I refit them I'll put some on and see how it goes.
