What is the best potential improvement to your Evora?

Recommended Posts

There is one thing that has been bothering me with my 400 which is the battery losing power when the car Ian not used for 2 weeks.

I have an isolator on it so I can switch it off when waiting around but this creates a separate problem which is that I need to use the emergency boot release that is pretty much for emergency only as it either needs two people to operate or just jams.

i am thinking of installing the following instead:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/p/Car-Auto-Remote-Control-Battery-Switch-Disconnect-Anti-theft-Master-Kill-DC-12v/1380278963?iid=312738567894&chn=ps&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=710-134428-41853-0&mkcid=2&itemid=312738567894&targetid=520070940453&device=m&mktype=pla&googleloc=9045993&poi=&campaignid=7412990524&mkgroupid=76068632570&rlsatarget=pla-520070940453&abcId=1139366&merchantid=138346587&gclid=CjwKCAiArJjvBRACEiwA-Wiqq3Gx-04Dgm10bUP7wlJYvWvbnyivd-EpIQKzSBmWXfVCo5aswERKDxoCe0cQAvD_BwE

Anyone tried that?

What about you, anything that bugged you and that you would want improved or practical things you did to make it more usable?

@mik re no 1.: from my experience the main problem is that the electronics of some garage door openers do not match - you can go after the british manual, the hints on the forum ...whatever, tried so many times...then we got a differnt sytem on our garage ..and? 30 sec later the homelink worked ......

room for improvement: delivery time for spare parts 😉 ........

Bugged me?  No self dipping rear view mirror. Poor quality sound system.

Improvements?  Mostly personal taste. Above plus more comfortable interior, changed seats and trim generally. Suspension and new geo, grooved brake discs. Lighter exhaust plus engine mods to 400 ish bhp. Gear cable change, later 400 clutch, flywheel and diff.

Komotec 490 kit. Ohlins TTX.  Lower final drive.

Other than that, my car is superb and I love it.

The gearbox. Of all the things, for me it's the massive, glaring problem. The shifting mech itself is OK, although considering how great everything else is, it's still weak point - but the main issue is the transmission noise below 2k. I know why it does it, I know it's "TADTS" but it's not acceptable on a car of this value, especially as its still an issue on the later cars. I'd seriously consider an IPS for my next one.

Otherwise, it's minor: The larger sills (better on the 400), the poor radio (easily replaceable - although not so much the signal) are the only two.

That’s where personal preferences come in 😛

I prefer the interior feel of the S1, particularly the higher sills. Makes me feel much more part of the car with it wrapped around me.

As for the radio, it’s good enough to listen to. Why do I want superior hifi quality in a car, I’m too busy enjoying the driving experience?

I prefer the S1 interior, but would appreciate the lower, narrower sills sills of the 400!

Other wish list items from me:

- Something likes Audi's virtual cockpit would be great - a nice clear and sharp display, don't need it to be too fancy / feature rich but it would really smarten the interior up!

- Nicer buttons to the IPS gearbox

- Dipping mirrors for reversing

- Improved rear view camera

- LED headlights

One thing I missed off my list of what bugs me and improvements.

The Gadawful red leds in the dash. Whoever designed that dash obviously had never seen sunlight.. I still haven't improved it 'cos I cant find anyone to change the dash chipsfor me, and I haven't the skill with a soldering iron.

Only two things bug me about the Evora...

Windows that don't retract fully into the doors and the angle you have to hold a fuel nozzle to fill it up (hurts my delicate little wrists), neither of which I can do anything about...

I can live with it I suppose!!!  :)

I've already done a s/c upgrade, so for me just a bit more room in the footwell for my right foot as my ankle can ache on a long journey.

Dash is not the best but i'm not fussed. Everything just keeps working on mine so no point in changing anything else 😎

I tend to flip my hand position so instead of the nozzle pointing out between my thumb and first finger, (pulling the trigger with my fingers) it points out beside my pinky (and I squeeze the trigger with my thumb). It isn’t comfortable, but I find it less-uncomfortable. 🙄

A button on the dash to pop up the filler thingy at the front for the screenwash. Found the lever tonight buried in the depths of the footwell

Only here once

  • All in one dash, nav, touchscreen, apple/android play/connect
  • Windows that close and seal correctly/tight when door closed, and loose the crappy rubber seal replacing with proper recessed area.
  • Auto wipers, and lights
  • Doors that don't rattle when shutting, better designed to stop water/mud ingress into sill area and water pooling in door handle.
  • Boot mechanism that reliability works and does take multiple presses of the key or jamming up and down the lid. A gas strut would be nice as well rather than balancing on my head all the time.
  • A key that not from the 80's and folds away in my pocket.
  • Wing mirrors not from a metro or whatever they are from that suit and look like they belong a on sports car.
  • Better quality interior feel - the S1 is ahead on this.
  • Much more torque.

Elise is the perfect car for you as I’m sure you already know

Why's that then?

I guess you'll be trading to a Nissan GTR or Audi RS6 Avant by the same logic?

Elise is perfect, especially S1 but for tours away, really need the +2 Evora set up.

NA Evora is a Billy Joel car: Just the way you are.

I don't doubt you were being sincere, perhaps my reply was badly worded. Elise is perhaps my favourite car of all time, suits me perfectly. Evora extra space very handy and would happily have less 'extras' that the modern world considers necessities these days.

CAI & exhaust headers give the S1 NA engine a fantastic sound if a little on the loud side for some UK tracks.  I think it should have come from the factory like that.  With the option of quieter back box for people who want to track their car.

Things for the future ... I like my S1 interior but there are a few blemishes.  The airbag cover one spot where the leather has bubbled up and door handle covers are a bit loose and there are one or two rattles.  I'd like to have a full interior strip down, re-trim with plusher leather and better finishing and screw everything back tightly to remove the rattles.

But those things just melt away when I'm out on a drive so I'm not sure how motivated I am to get a re-trim.  I've started tracking my car a little bit and I am learning to be a better, faster driver so maybe some suspension upgrades to make the car feel better on track?  but even with the stock suspension there is still a lot time left in the car due to my lack of skill.  So I'll try and focus on spending money on becoming a better driver first and resisting the urge to spend it on new shiny gear.

If I won the lottery and money was no object - I would get carbon fibre S1 clam shells made up to lighten the car and maybe some carbon wheels and ceramic discs, li-on battery .. again all to try and lighten the car.
